apparently the album ends with three v depressing songs too so it'll be a very isolated "up" moment

Ha same. I can already tell that it will be a highlight for me. Does sound like a total rewrite of "Settle Down" but that song is probably top 5 songs of this decade for me so I'll take anything that prolongs the magic

the bridge + sax interlude in she's american really lift it above settle down imo

Wow Matty is going low on that chorus - audio manipulation or his singing voice? Sounds like a different band almost, until the second verse, when it gets more first album-y. Great song!

the lowest matty's gone range-wise is the verses of "antichrist" which is even lower than on this song. it's def manipulated here though, especially on the bridge

Oh yeah, forgot "Antichrist". That's another track where they sound like a different band to me, maybe Interpol *ducks*, before Matty takes it up an octave. I guess his usual singing range is the essence of the band, for me

His voice is pretty low for most of "Me" too.

think when i first saw a live video i said it was a gorgeous composite of their album approach and their ep approach i.e. a pop song but submerged and blurred until it's a sustained blush. their best song yet

the lyrics are also crushing for reasons i'd rather not get into

this song was so obviously good from the live recording, basically im just happy they didn't fuck up the mixing or something, like it's more or less how i imagined it would sound

there's a real danger in listening to the live version 1st & falling for it!
