shame, it seems hardly anyone knows old Soundgarden albums.

TS: best heavy pop act since zeppelin vs that "grunge" band that did "black hole sun"
― butt-rock miyagi (rogermexico.), Sunday, 12 April 2009 17:03 (fifteen years ago) link
and the 1st album is the most "grunge" of all their albums yet no-one knows it these days apart from doom metal fans. These albums deserve deluxe remaster jobs like Pearl Jam - Ten is getting.

Ultramega OK has long been on my "albums to get" list; Louder than Love, not so much, heard it was the worst of their stuff; had a few near-misses, but after being slightly disappointed by BMF, decided not to go out of my way to look for it...

this thread is causing me to reconsider, though...

Definitely reconsider. The only really shitty/embarrassing track on this album is Get On The Snake. The rest is pummeling and awesome and not at all like your typical nails-in-the-brain Terry Date production.

Get On The Snake is great!

Up until their last album, this was seen as their weakest, but nowadays some see it as the last good soundgarden, and everyone else realises that there are some of their best songs on here. I personally think BMF is the best then superunknown and Ultramega OK are better as they are more consistent, but I love love love listening to live bootlegs from this time, with the band playing tracks from both albums.Soundgarden have kinda been forgotten outside of doom metal circles havent they? Even then they dont get the love you might expect for the 1st 2 albums.

They get dismissed as "oh yeah they were a grunge band" in a way that the melvins dont.

right...i blame that on "black hole sun"...nut youre right, that's totally unfair...

I actually have a really good quality bootleg of a show they did at the Whiskey in 1990 or thereabouts, which I think was actually an official recording as there's a track from the same show (or series of shows, may not have been a single gig) that wound up on one of the Blow Up The Outside World singles. Shame it never saw an official release because it's very good -- considering they were notoriously bad live in their later years.

I have 2 boots from 1990 (I think they might be the same gig but 1 has 2 extra tracks). Not sure where it's from.

The 1990 Whiskey show was released on VHS and promo CD as "Louder Than Live"VHS seems cheap and easy to get. CD not so much.

It was also released on LP. and there is actually a one-song track difference between the two (I think one format has "Earache My Eye" and on the other it is swapped out for some other track.)
