I've been toying with the idea of buying up a bunch of footwork (and related) vinyl online and teaching myself how to DJ properly... Is this a wise choice? All my mixes are kind of pre-prepared digital affairs rather than on the fly mixes. Footwork is still relatively niche where I live, but the appetite for booming bass has always been very high.

This is from a while ago. House of Black Lanterns don't strictly stick to footwork, but this is nice and forbidding.

Kode 9 has one of those residency shows on Radio 1. This one has a bunch of juke on it. And a gqom track. And some other stuff, mostly grime

so i assume you all are down with Iglooghost. it's a little too 'ADD sugar rush' for me, but after hearing all his early rap production (which is great) it's amazing to see how he's developed.

This Ash Koosha record is interesting. Sometimes Arca-ish, sometimes more like a 2016 take on IDM. Very rhythmic but not especially functional (seems like he doesn't like kick drums much?), although there are a couple tracks I could hear working in a mix. It's growing on me.

― Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Tuesday, 6 March 2018 22:34 (eight years ago)
most hip hop producers i talk to in chicago had a point where they were making juke & footwork stuff tbh

nobody listens to techno :(
I'm sure most rap producers in Chicago have dabbled in footwork/juke, but out of the ones that really made their name on it, I can't think of any others (besides DJ Nate) who abandoned it?

some of them used to do it primarily but i'm sure veering to rap was specifically bc they hadn't made their names as dance producers
im not saying the culture is gone at all, i know ppl who still do it, just that the rap gold rush def shifted some of the zeitgeist away for awhile

It's not my business but I have so many medical questions based on that press release (mostly because my partner is a PT and I hear about this stuff a lot). Like, clearly he wasn't literally 'paralyzed from the neck down' since he was making beats and doing physical therapy?
But whatever, hoping for the best for him.
