I'm personally responsible for 80% of the soundcloud plays of this song at this point.
― Thee Macallan 18 Year, Tuesday, 19 January 2016 23:28 (ten years ago)
DS2 has some problems, it's solid but I can think of Metro Boomin productions I like better than his stuff on there, including "Jumpman" which is a great beat w crap rapping. So I'm fine with him releasing more stuff even if it's similar template, not like it's completely identical
― nova, Wednesday, 20 January 2016 06:19 (ten years ago)
what is it with Future album/mixtapes being added then subtracted then added again with incomplete track list or changed Artist headings on Spotify . it's so random
― (•̪●) (carne asada), Friday, 29 January 2016 16:54 (ten years ago)
yeah it sucks
― Spottie, Friday, 29 January 2016 17:00 (ten years ago)
dont use spotify
― lag∞n, Friday, 29 January 2016 17:03 (ten years ago)
I relistened to all the mixtapes after Purple Reign dropped and have thoughts
Monster: The highlights on here are great, second half of "Throw Away" (I know you could say it's not complete without the first half but it's a bit of a dirge IMO,) "Hardly," "Codeine Crazy." "After That" is a banger and reminds me of when I thought Wayne was rebounding until he put out three worthless projects last year. The first two songs are terrible though, "Radical" in particular. Actually this is the one I didn't finish all the way through originally so it was cool going back and finding a handful of dope songs.
Beast Mode: I like this almost all the way through but mainly on a solid, not-great level. "No Basic" is a cut above the rest though I think.
56 Nights: I get why this is seen as the best one and the siren drops are just a repeating producer tag, the beats are pretty varied within its template. But idk, to me it's kinda dreary besides "March Madness." In a certain mood I could maybe see feeling this more.
It's not so much that I think he's better/worse at one or another sound, but I remember playing Pluto a bunch when it dropped and while it's got it's flaws I miss some of the brighter sound it had overall. It's not necessary, plenty of the best songs from last year go for a bleak feel and succeed, but when they don't it's a little drab/monotonous.

nice!
ftr, I'm not a sonic youth fan per se but certainly have nothing against them, frozen burritos can be pretty all right though
― metro slothrop want some more (slothroprhymes), Thursday, 4 February 2016 04:54 (ten years ago)

evol is possibly the best SY album
― marcos, Thursday, 4 February 2016 20:52 (ten years ago)
loool is that really a sample from "street spirit"? xp
― marcos, Thursday, 4 February 2016 20:53 (ten years ago)
i don't think so? but tbf i haven't listened to street spirit or radiohead in general in quite some time
― metro slothrop want some more (slothroprhymes), Thursday, 4 February 2016 21:02 (ten years ago)
*listens to street spirit* ok yeah it very well might be
does sorta seem in line with sad future
― metro slothrop want some more (slothroprhymes), Thursday, 4 February 2016 21:06 (ten years ago)
future "al sharpton" is better than any of the records on purple reign imo

really liking the production on evol

i dunno how much i really dig "Al Sharpton" but Future/Mike Will is such a potent combination that i'm kinda annoyed that he keeps pushing back Ape Shit to release increasingly samey Metro Boomin/808 Mafia-heavy projects
― some dude, Saturday, 6 February 2016 14:35 (ten years ago)
yea I'm getting kind of worn out on the metro boomin / 808 mafia sound
― marcos, Saturday, 6 February 2016 15:38 (ten years ago)
agreed with deej that this is better than ds2. really early to tell but this is so great it may be my favorite recent future record
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Saturday, 6 February 2016 16:21 (ten years ago)
is it better than ds2 because there's a "bangbang" adlib on lil haiti kid? if not that, then what?
I'd say this is easily his best since ds 2 but i also need some new colors soon.
― human and working on getting beer (longneck), Saturday, 6 February 2016 18:09 (ten years ago)
He needs another Zaytoven project
― thom yorke state of mind (voodoo chili), Saturday, 6 February 2016 18:34 (ten years ago)
that would be cool too, although the light sprinkles of Zaytoven on DS2 and Purple Reign work well
― some dude, Saturday, 6 February 2016 18:49 (ten years ago)
on first listen these all have like the same beat :(
― marcos, Saturday, 6 February 2016 19:29 (ten years ago)
he does some real cool stuff with his flows on this but i dunno, even for a recent future record it felt a bit grim & nihilistic for me. something like "xanny family" feels almost obligatory to me? like the hook doesn't even really work.
of the real rappy ones at the beginning i think i like "lil haiti baby" the best but "lie to me" & "low life" are my favs on this i think if only bcuz he sort of steps out of this real narrow frame of mind for a second
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 6 February 2016 20:04 (ten years ago)
i think i prefer some stuff on purple reign like "inside the mattress" "drippin" and "perkys calling" to most of this album, and the idea that this is better than DS2 seems off on its face to me
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 6 February 2016 20:07 (ten years ago)
steps out of this real narrow frame of mind for a second
speaking more musically than spiritually here i guess
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 6 February 2016 20:08 (ten years ago)
"inside the mattress" is great true
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Saturday, 6 February 2016 20:16 (ten years ago)
I´m expecting a song by song face-off from the evol > ds2 crüe.
― human and working on getting beer (longneck), Saturday, 6 February 2016 21:11 (ten years ago)
lol ok
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Saturday, 6 February 2016 21:18 (ten years ago)
it's resonating with me pretty heavily bc it's paced like 56 nights, extremely focused at its start and gently expanding about halfway through ("seven rings" -> "fly shit only")
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Saturday, 6 February 2016 21:22 (ten years ago)
plus "maybach" bangs
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Saturday, 6 February 2016 21:23 (ten years ago)
^otm that stood out the most to me 1st listen
― johnny crunch, Saturday, 6 February 2016 21:32 (ten years ago)
this is easier to listen to front to back than ds 2, maybe there's a couple "higher highs" on the latter (not including the bonus tracks obv) but i also just like the production more, the idea that all these tracks sound the same though is completely insane

― johnny crunch, Sunday, 7 February 2016 00:07 (ten years ago)
i think "ain't no time," "maybach," "photo copied," "seven rings" and "fly shit only" are my faves. really impressed with the whole thing tho, even the weeknd's presence on "low life" doesn't screw anything up
― metro slothrop want some more (slothroprhymes), Sunday, 7 February 2016 17:22 (ten years ago)
ehhhhhh, I prefer the slight, new thug. y'all can keep this version of future, I have no use for it.
