1080p just has the worst aesthetic sense so i kinda avoid stuff they put out

-san (Lamp), Sunday, 10 January 2016 19:49 (ten years ago)

i have no idea what that means

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Sunday, 10 January 2016 21:40 (ten years ago)

their album art and branding is on some dopey middle-aged creative trash fit so i just havent listened to much of the stuff they put out. im listening to the project pablo release rn and its pretty good

-san (Lamp), Monday, 11 January 2016 19:01 (ten years ago)

admittedly its a stupid reason not to listen to stuff but theres already so much music and it was really off-putting

-san (Lamp), Monday, 11 January 2016 19:02 (ten years ago)

All those ones listed are great, but this was my most listened to 1080p last year (maybe just cos it came out early on):

Jonathan Hellion Mumble, Monday, 11 January 2016 20:31 (ten years ago)

there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of aesthetic coherence between releases, that's why i didn't really know what you meant. i assumed it was up to the artist.

Another new CFCF album coming next month, this time on International Feel and described as "one of the most beautiful things we've signed"

groovypanda, Tuesday, 12 January 2016 08:35 (ten years ago)

this lullabies for insomniacs mix on red light radio is cool - kinda darker and only loosely balearic i guess, but fits best here:

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 12 January 2016 10:22 (ten years ago)

also apropos of nothing, been listening to this bohren und der club of gore track a lot lately:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NDbXmAIKEQ

feels like the point where balearic meets goth - if anyone wants to point me towards more things like this, that'd be good.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 12 January 2016 10:24 (ten years ago)

nice track but I would call this more chillout than anything... maybe check out the Late Night Tales After Dark mixes.

ain't no revival (it's from 1983) but i thought a lot of you might get a kick out of this great brazilian proggy jazz record:

i would have told you that balearic and goth seem like attitudinal opposites

except that this exists, and is good: http://www.discogs.com/Cure-The-Balearic-Sound-Of-The-Cure/release/3592148

Deverly (Bangelo), Wednesday, 13 January 2016 01:44 (ten years ago)

xp that remix of "Close to Me" must have been a Cafe Del Mar standard right?

The Male Gaz Coombes (Neil S), Wednesday, 13 January 2016 08:47 (ten years ago)

there are loads of remixes of the cure from that era - can remember a lot of bootlegs of them when i worked in a record store...

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 13 January 2016 09:32 (ten years ago)

yeah they kind of got co-opted into baggy/acid house didn't they

The Male Gaz Coombes (Neil S), Wednesday, 13 January 2016 09:33 (ten years ago)

Lullaby is the obvious Balearic one but this is one of my favourites. Anyone any idea where it's from as it's not the 12" version which is just under six minutes? Think it might just be an edit someone's done

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIMlPygBV2o

groovypanda, Wednesday, 13 January 2016 10:08 (ten years ago)

there was a cool mix of "the walk" that a friend used to have a bootleg of - googling just gives me loads of horrendous recent attempts though

Regarding The Cure many of the remixes are on the 1990 album Mixed Up album (that I remember buying during the first term of my final year at Uni)

only half of the mixes on Mixed Up (just five on CD!) were previously released. The Walk and A Forest were completely new recordings,as Polygram had lost the master tapes. (This is why Smith later recorded a new version with Blank & Jones, too - they'd just sought permission to do a remix for their '80s series.)

glandular lansbury (sic), Thursday, 14 January 2016 09:22 (ten years ago)

someone upthread referred to mark barrott's pilates album, which is on Spotify FYI. listening now, definitely more on the new age tip but really great.it's Mark Barrott & Michael Conn, "Inner Harmony".

1080p does rule!

the late great, Monday, 18 January 2016 00:23 (ten years ago)

i really dig most of the Ptaki album, but nothing compares to "warsaw", imo (it appears on the CD version of Przelot and was previously on this ep)

lute bro (brimstead), Monday, 18 January 2016 01:29 (ten years ago)

i like 1080p but sound pellegrino is my lo-fi techno label of choice

flopson, Monday, 18 January 2016 01:50 (ten years ago)

actually 1080p's hairy catalogue would benefit from making nice compilations like the snd.pe series

flopson, Monday, 18 January 2016 01:54 (ten years ago)

'warsaw' is so good, played the shit out of that track over the past year or two

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Wednesday, 20 January 2016 07:50 (ten years ago)

Would this count as balearic revival?

Whitney - No Woman
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGKN6qiDqnk

The voice is sort of 'indie' but the arrangements sound kind of yacht rock/balearic for me.

New Moonboots chart. Always worth investigating.

The Dane Taylor record is ace so looking forward to hearing the Leo Mas remix

groovypanda, Wednesday, 3 February 2016 09:47 (ten years ago)

after successive listens, i'm loving the ptaki album more and more. i'm not even sure "warsaw" is my favorite track anymore!

lute bro (brimstead), Wednesday, 3 February 2016 20:10 (ten years ago)

so are y'all listening to that suso saiz thing (or the excerpts that music from memory have posted?)

i guess i get bragging rights for having discovered his records before the announcement that his work would be issued for the first time in america. or something. it's easy to be a few steps ahead these days.

anyway, this thread moves too fast! too much to listen to.

groovypanda, Wednesday, 10 February 2016 09:54 (ten years ago)

The No Zu album is really great in a Gang Gang Dance meets Jungle Wonz kinda way. I'm very pleased that "Raw Vision" (the only track I knew previously) is the most conservative / retro-familiar tune here.
