Good lord, 2 days? Fucking hell. RIP.

there goes a man who enjoyed life without compromise, and left us with a whole lot of kick ass music so we can share in some of the fun ourselves. RIP Lemmy.

Fucking hell, man, I never thought this would happen, ever. Dude just seemed eternal. Coincidentally been listening to Hawkwind all day, guess it'll be Motorhead all night.

I'm sure I've told this story before, but here it is anyway.

The first time (of 3) I interviewed Lemmy was in 2002 or 2003, when I was editing High Society magazine. We brought two models to the interview, which was being conducted in the basement of The World, a Times Square club owned by the WWE; the plan was to do the interview, then take photos. Interview goes great, time for photos. The girls begin to disrobe, and the WWE publicist freaks the fuck out. Drags me upstairs to the club manager's office, where I swear up and down that no WWE logos will be visible in any of the photos, and that we won't mention the venue by name, we'll just say Lemmy was interviewed and photographed "in New York." We go back downstairs, and the photos get taken. Then the photographer and I go off to watch the show, and the models decide to hang out with the band. Sometime between the interview and the start of Motörhead's set, the photographer gets a panicked call from one of the models, in the dressing room: "You need to come get us. They're doing crystal meth back here."

Fast forward to 2010, when I'm asked to come down to South by Southwest to interview Lemmy again onstage, to celebrate the premiere of the documentary about him, which my friend Wes co-directed. Backstage beforehand, we shake hands, and I say, "You probably don't remember this, but I interviewed you in 2002 or 2003 in New York, and we brought two models..." Lemmy lets out that gravel-and-cigarettes laugh, and says, "Oh yeah, I remember. You got in some trouble for that."

I've been a Motörhead fan for 30 years. I'm gonna miss that fucker.

So sad. Really thought he'd live forever. Still remember November 3rd 1980, Edinburgh Odeon more clearly than 99% of concerts I've been to subsequently.

fuck. this is such a shock. I mean not cos a guy like him couldn't die, with his age, recent health issues, and years of hard living, but I literally just saw him live a few months ago, and although he seemed to not have the same energy as his youth, he put on a great show. the latest album was great too.

RIP, man lived the way he wanted to.

ive spent most of this winter playing Dark Souls while listening to Hawkwind and Motorhead, will be doing the same today. RIP, Lemmy.

This years Motorhead album was excellent, at least they went out on a high.

I posted a bunch of motorhead songs on facebook on tuesday with one linked in the OP and several following in the comments down below. Last night, I got a solitary "Like" from my dad, for the song 1916. He's an old peacenik, so I can see a ballad mourning the brutality of war being right up his alley. But it was toward the end of the pack so I'm imagining him sitting through a slew of live renditions of more classic Motorhead tracks like Overkill and Iron Fist before he got there.

listening to Motorhead and On Parole today. i prefer the On Parole versions of these songs, especially "Vibrator", which has a really cool trippy Revolver-style drone ending. i can't seem to find that version on youtube otherwise i'd post it.

On Parole is such an incredible album. i have a hard time picking between it and Space Ritual
