i can kinda sorta see where forks is coming from in the sense that the-dream is kind of like a generic r&b artist for the post-r. kelly/t-pain era, but i eventually came around to see that dude has some unique things going for him as far as singing/lyrics/production.

this is boringly true of all things but a great part of enjoying ne-yo is in getting into or recognising the absurdities of his character sometimes. a lot of guys could sing what he sings but (for instance) just him in particular top gunning the "commander in chief of my pimp shit FLYING HIIIIIIIGH" on the recent keri hilson collabo makes my lolday every time
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 14:48 (seventeen years ago)
with that silly beat as well
been lovin the way he sassed the "yes!" at 1:30 on this cut too
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 14:57 (seventeen years ago)
haha that silly Ne-Yo verse is the only thing I like about "Knock You Down." is it "pimp ship" or "pimp shit" though? i always heard it as the former and thought it made more sense in the lyric that way, but then i heard a radio station play it censored like "pimp ____ flyin' high" and got confused.
― far beyond steendriven (some dude), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 15:07 (seventeen years ago)
well yes pimp ship would make more sense to you wouldnt it.
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 15:08 (seventeen years ago)
XD
anyway after "pedal to the flow, mane" there is nothing Ne-Yo can say that will make me go o_O anymore
― far beyond steendriven (some dude), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 15:08 (seventeen years ago)
gotta also once again cosign any mention of ne-yo's first album: forks if you like this -- then you will like that
(not only cos the group scarily features ne-yo's EXACT looka/soundalike 1996 doppelganger!!)

bzrwon (11 months ago) Show Hide 0Marked as spamReply | Spamneyo looks like a turtle. this guy looks like a tortoise. see the diff?
I'm pretty sure it is "pimp ship"; he talks about being shot down by a "pretty little missile"; besides which I've seen it on BET uncensored in that fashion. I think your radio station is overly cautious.I'm gonna quit hating, but I'm just not hearing what you guys are hearing. Maybe I'll try again over the weekend, I'm on a heavy UGK/GMob kick just now tho'.

Just watched that utube; I have a soft spot for Chubb Rock and I like the harmonies there along with the Tone Toni Ton'e! vibe... Ne Yo just feels so much more processed.FWIW, he seems like a much better live performer than CB. Solid live dancer too.

It occurs to me that i have a real double standard with high sheen polish with my pop stars: i don't mind if women are super burnished, but it turns me off when male artist are all megaproduced, image conscious and squeaky fresh and clean.

Anti-Chris Brown song causes havoc for 2 groupsAP
2 hrs 46 mins ago
NEW YORK – The unexpected success of a song criticizing Chris Brown has caused havoc for two previously unknown bands.
A group of DJs from Chicago found unexpected airplay last week when radio stations began playing "My Flow Is So Tight." The main lyric suggests that Brown, who's been charged with felony assault and making criminal threats against R&B singer Rihanna, should be beaten for his alleged crime.
Brown pleaded not guilty Monday.
The DJs behind the anti-Brown song called themselves Smoke Jumpers, but that name had already been taken by an Austin, Texas, hip-hop group. The group says they quickly changed their name to Jump Smokers.
The original Smoke Jumpers aren't amused. The group's Ashley Harkrider says their name has been hurt "in the minds of music listeners everywhere."

btw, he looks like a complete tool for most of the bits where you can see him behind Banner in Get Like Me video.

dude pretty much has always looked like an unctuous tool in most of his videos imo.

nah I rolled my eyes a bit when i saw it
― i'm educated in sex, yes (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 28 May 2009 00:56 (seventeen years ago)
i might find it distasteful if i could work out what kind of point kanye's trying to make. she's empowered now? look what you're missing, chris? who knows. it's clumsy and ill-conceived but it's kanye, so yeah. rihanna's sartorial messages lately have been much better.
― lex pretend, Thursday, 28 May 2009 00:57 (seventeen years ago)
well nah if anything it comes off more like the song chris brown woulda been singing yknow?
ugh fuck kanye for him making me weight this shit up even for a second rather than getting whatever vague belated summer pleasure this song mighta had
― r|t|c, Thursday, 28 May 2009 01:04 (seventeen years ago)
meanwhile bow wow has a video out of chris brown bowling
― da croupier, Thursday, 28 May 2009 01:13 (seventeen years ago)
just to make the point that i've never gone "ugh fuck kanye" like that b4 - this sounds really stupid but yknow over the last 6 years or whatever i feel like i've got a pretty rounded handle on the lassitudes of his persona and whatnot and this thing really has crossed a new and different line in crassness, even if he didnt mean it like it sounds. he is just bang out of order imo.
feel free to convince me otherwise, but.
― r|t|c, Thursday, 28 May 2009 01:24 (seventeen years ago)
this is... unfortunate i think. it def fits into kanye's career - cassie in the "stronger" video, even him showing up in that hilson video even tho he's not in the song - and def fits his personality of trying to always make as big of a splash as possible. and i think in his mind he's doing something good for her, but he's putting her on display and exploiting her, and i don't think that he would've chosen her to be in this video if it wasn't for the battery incident and the fact that she disappeared from the public eye because of it. since it's kanye there's no doubt that he's trying to make some statement with it - and duh it's block headed - but i can't really figure out what it is, except maybe the empowerment angle, and if that's true it's just very poorly executed. i think i have to side with rtc on this one.

nah nah nah
there was a video for "make love" where her and keri fondle each other on a bed iirc - universal calls it a "viral commercial" whatever the hell that means - anyway the embed's not gonna work cuz it's on universal's youtube channel, but click thru
― hazmat yayo (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 28 May 2009 02:40 (seventeen years ago)
calling kanye "her" = a freudian slip
― hazmat yayo (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 28 May 2009 02:41 (seventeen years ago)
really kinda kanye's publicity grab was brought up on the chris brown thread around the same time this comes out
― da croupier, Thursday, 28 May 2009 02:53 (seventeen years ago)
kinda surprised, rather
big lolz @ a 'viral commercial' that's managed to go virtually unnoticed for a month despite starring someone who i find myself hearing about every damn time i look any any website ever
even bigger lolz @ it being shot during kanye's brief mullet period
― gabb nebula (some dude), Thursday, 28 May 2009 03:08 (seventeen years ago)
i hope his next album has some lines about his mullet period like "yeah that tuxedo might've been a little guido"
