"Christmas I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down", way boring

cory artangel (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 25 December 2015 02:05 (ten years ago)

It's the worst type of song they do. So dull.

Whoremonger (jed_), Friday, 25 December 2015 21:02 (ten years ago)

Outside of New York how many songs like that have they done? Agree it is pretty dull

frogbs, Sunday, 27 December 2015 19:11 (ten years ago)

last album had a few

flopson, Sunday, 27 December 2015 19:21 (ten years ago)

ah maybe not actually, i was thinking of dance yrself clean and "somebody's calling me" but i guess something kinda happens on those

flopson, Sunday, 27 December 2015 19:27 (ten years ago)

so... the reunion is happening after all? coachella one off?

niels, Wednesday, 30 December 2015 15:58 (ten years ago)

'Never as Tired as When I'm Waking Up'?

expertly crafted referential display name (Jordan), Wednesday, 30 December 2015 16:54 (ten years ago)

ahhh, but I dig that one!

frogbs, Wednesday, 30 December 2015 17:00 (ten years ago)

I mean it's hardly a highlight of the album but IMO way better than this one

frogbs, Wednesday, 30 December 2015 18:33 (ten years ago)

yeah i like the token ballads on the albums.

expertly crafted referential display name (Jordan), Wednesday, 30 December 2015 18:41 (ten years ago)

oh god a reunion would be so corny

police patrol felt the smell of smoke and found that goat burns (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 31 December 2015 04:40 (ten years ago)

Thanks for bumping this thread, because even though I don't care about the new song or any reunion, I'm listening to "Yeah" right now and it's just as great as I remembered.

One of my fave bands in recent memory, but why can't groups just stay broken up anymore? LCD took less time to reunite than many acts take between albums.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 31 December 2015 13:07 (ten years ago)

It does cheapen the whole Madison Square Garden thing, which now looks more like a cash grab than the emotional ending it was constantly billed as. It will be interesting to see how Murphy justifies it all.

Position Position, Thursday, 31 December 2015 13:13 (ten years ago)

yeah this stinks tbh. if it's true which it might not be?

piscesx, Thursday, 31 December 2015 13:30 (ten years ago)

come on it's just one dude, every day he decides to jam on his keyboard at home, 'lcd soundsystem is back together'

iatee, Thursday, 31 December 2015 13:44 (ten years ago)

Nah, he reunited everyone for that single. This isn't NIN or GNR.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 31 December 2015 13:47 (ten years ago)

well he's nice enough to use the same people but if 'reunited' without and given band member, nobody would care.

iatee, Thursday, 31 December 2015 13:52 (ten years ago)

well he's nice enough to use the same people but if 'reunited' without and given band member, nobody would care.

iatee, Thursday, 31 December 2015 13:52 (ten years ago)

it'll probably be ok if they treat it similarly to how NIN did 'we took a break from touring like we said we would after our big farewell shows and now we're going to continue making music from where we left off' etc but if there's no plans beyond the festival circuit cashgrab and that dull christmas song it'll come across pretty sad especially after only 5 years.

ufo, Thursday, 31 December 2015 14:00 (ten years ago)

err 'if he reunited'

iatee, Thursday, 31 December 2015 14:04 (ten years ago)

and 'without any given'

iatee, Thursday, 31 December 2015 14:05 (ten years ago)

LCD could not successfully reunite Nancy or Pat

They only existed for nine years

glandular lansbury (sic), Thursday, 31 December 2015 14:18 (ten years ago)

oh noes the sublime artistic integrity of lcd soundsystem has been cheapened

probably.tasteful.forever (imago), Thursday, 31 December 2015 14:19 (ten years ago)

anyway when they split he said they'd play & record again, but he didn't expect to make albums and tour the same songs for 18 months again

glandular lansbury (sic), Thursday, 31 December 2015 14:19 (ten years ago)

yeah it would be cool if they just became a studio band from here on out, I thought it was the touring that really wore Murphy out

frogbs, Thursday, 31 December 2015 14:22 (ten years ago)

There's no "if" about the reunion. They're playing a whole bunch of festivals and perhaps other dates in the US and Europe this Spring and Summer, starting with Coachella and running until at least July. Coachella isn't even the only one they're doing in Southern California.

Not that any statement was necessary given how obviously premature and therefore faux was the purported breakup, but anyone who thought it wouldn't happen (or who invested any sort of significance in that MSG show) missed Murphy telling you at the time that it probably would. When he decided he wanted to soundtrack the NYC subway and realized that he needed a lot of money to do it (and a lot of money he's getting), it became a no-brainer.

Comprehensive Nuclear Suggest-Ban Treaty (benbbag), Thursday, 31 December 2015 15:20 (ten years ago)

Not to suggest that there's nothing silly about investing any significance in a TNG Talking Heads knockoff with a more bearish, less bright frontman in the first place

Comprehensive Nuclear Suggest-Ban Treaty (benbbag), Thursday, 31 December 2015 15:26 (ten years ago)

So this whole thing is to help fund his subway project?

Position Position, Thursday, 31 December 2015 16:18 (ten years ago)

TNG?

campreverb, Thursday, 31 December 2015 16:42 (ten years ago)

Does the fact that it might help fund a fairly-unlikely art project make you feel better about the idea that they're willing to be paid millions of dollars? I'm led to believe it was part of the impetus, or removal of indifference.

Comprehensive Nuclear Suggest-Ban Treaty (benbbag), Thursday, 31 December 2015 17:49 (ten years ago)

They were so sad when we broke up
But now they're mad
That we're not

piscesx, Tuesday, 5 January 2016 18:53 (ten years ago)

wow, really did not expect a new record to be part of this (or the motivation for it).

sam jax sax jam (Jordan), Tuesday, 5 January 2016 19:03 (ten years ago)

He should set that post to music.

I suppose I am glad to have them back, but I was a bit bummed their setlists have been pretty much song for song identical since reuniting, including last night at one of the Lollapalooza-related club after shows. I enjoyed it fine, but don't say you're getting the band back together because you have more to say or your work isn't finished or whatever and then hit the clubs and festivals with a set in stone setlist that pretty much feels like an exact continuation of what you were doing for but with less spontaneity. Also, the world weary shtick doesn't quite play as well after you've prematurely reunited. If you want to be back you've got to try a little harder to make it look like it was something you missed, imo. Murphy was good and sounded good, but he sounded most enthusiastic telling everyone that Derrick Carter was DJing downstairs if they really wanted to dance.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 30 July 2016 16:04 (nine years ago)

I listened to "Never As Tired As When I'm Waking Up" this morning. They should start closing their sets with that instead of "NY I Love You"

Two new songs out today

groovypanda, Thursday, 4 May 2017 20:08 (nine years ago)

If I had to play spot the reference (with a band that all but demands it), I'd say that "Police" song sounds a bit like the Psychedelic Furs (and would sound better with Butler singing).

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 4 May 2017 20:17 (nine years ago)

a friend pointed out "Call the Police" sounds a bit like this '80s Fleetwood Mac number, which seems like the sort of thing Murphy would quote:

fits, Thursday, 4 May 2017 21:17 (nine years ago)

"Call the Police" sounds like LCD meets Bowie's "Heroes" to me - there's even a Berlin reference in it. Love it so far although I wish the ending was a little crazier.

Still need to listen to "American Dream" some more.

yesca, Friday, 5 May 2017 01:12 (nine years ago)

he sounds like Wayne Coyne but i like it.
