shit

"wearing fun hats"

alpine static, Thursday, 24 December 2015 03:15 (ten years ago)

id belatedly rank the mixtapes as monster (the beats on this are mighty, fuck up some commas is obv immense, tho i could do without the indian storeowner skit, for a second i thought i was back in 1995), 56 nights (it has no compadre, trap niggas, and march madness, but not 100% sold on the rest), then beast mode (mainly as it sounds pretty thin sonically).

When I first saw the title I thought the central conceit was Future as politicuan giving the audience-electorate who voted him in what thry wanted

right before Monster dropped, this dude promised me that Future had recorded a cover of "Don't Worry Be Happy"

it's still not up what the hell future

metro slothrop want some more (slothroprhymes), Sunday, 17 January 2016 12:09 (ten years ago)

i don't know why anyone even bothers to announce mixtapes. is it really better to hype people an hour ahead of time (and risk not dropping it on schedule and pissing everyone off) vs. just surprising them?

some dude, Sunday, 17 January 2016 13:14 (ten years ago)

just went up a little while ago

metro slothrop want some more (slothroprhymes), Sunday, 17 January 2016 14:06 (ten years ago)

8 hours behind schedule is a p reasonable delay in the scheme of things, I mean, I've been on codeine and things do in fact move slow

metro slothrop want some more (slothroprhymes), Sunday, 17 January 2016 14:07 (ten years ago)

this is sounding really good to me though I'm no Future scholar. "Inside the Mattress," "No Charge" and "Future Purple Reign" are all great, "Run Up" would be if the DJ drops weren't so obtrusive

grant holt (prettylikealaindelon), Sunday, 17 January 2016 15:35 (ten years ago)

it's very good imo, has a pretty consistent sound even with the ensemble of different producers, which is cool

metro slothrop want some more (slothroprhymes), Sunday, 17 January 2016 17:46 (ten years ago)

I think it's got ~5 jams and a bunch of filler personally

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Monday, 18 January 2016 01:23 (ten years ago)

This is sounding really awesome, even filler tracks from Future right now seem vital.

MikoMcha, Monday, 18 January 2016 11:21 (ten years ago)

only interested if it has some prince samples

StillAdvance, Monday, 18 January 2016 11:42 (ten years ago)

Title track + "Percocet" from DS2 deluxe are two sadfuture songs I fully endorse

I like about half of this, the two string-heavy Metro beats in particular are cool. He's getting to have a ton of producer tags too huh

nova, Monday, 18 January 2016 15:41 (ten years ago)

Purple Reign is out on iTunes & the streaming services now, no dj.

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Tuesday, 19 January 2016 12:37 (ten years ago)

no spotify US tho, at least that i can find

Spottie, Tuesday, 19 January 2016 16:17 (ten years ago)

No, looks like Spotify is lagging behind. It's up on google play music and apple music though. Even Tidal has it, lol-

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Tuesday, 19 January 2016 16:28 (ten years ago)

hah DAMMIT

Spottie, Tuesday, 19 January 2016 16:33 (ten years ago)

um u can also download it for free from any mixtape site? why you need it on spotify?

marcos, Tuesday, 19 January 2016 16:34 (ten years ago)

so i don't have to open another app and i can load in on my 2016 hip hop lists. I've already listened to it but its just more convenient for me on spotify.

Spottie, Tuesday, 19 January 2016 16:39 (ten years ago)

ah ok

marcos, Tuesday, 19 January 2016 16:40 (ten years ago)

listening so far it is pretty good but i am feeling a little futured out right now

marcos, Tuesday, 19 January 2016 16:42 (ten years ago)

thats how i was w him last year too. didn't dive into the M, BM, 56N triplet until 56 nights came out. didn't fully appreciate them until DS2 came out

Spottie, Tuesday, 19 January 2016 16:44 (ten years ago)

also there's no esco on this new one

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Tuesday, 19 January 2016 17:18 (ten years ago)

listening so far it is pretty good but i am feeling a little futured out right now

or the other way round - i'm not futured out enough of DS2 etc to want a new batch that's mostly in the same vein

cher guevara (lex pretend), Tuesday, 19 January 2016 17:24 (ten years ago)

It is pretty good and he hasn't lost it at all but it's not on par with the Monster-Beast Mode-56 Nights-DS2 run. I wish he'd switch up his production a bit more these days and get some bouncier and upbeat, more colorful stuff, or at the very least do some more of the flooding with love for the streets type tracks: my savages, just like bruddas, trap n**gas, etc.

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Tuesday, 19 January 2016 22:13 (ten years ago)

also there's no esco on this new one

wait is having no dj drops a bad thing, who cares

Marc "Misdemeanor" Maron - "WTF (Who Are Your Guys)" (some dude), Tuesday, 19 January 2016 22:28 (ten years ago)

No no no, the esco drops are pretty annoying. The new version doesn't have them. A good thing.

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Tuesday, 19 January 2016 22:32 (ten years ago)

ah right

So gdamn good.

Thee Macallan 18 Year, Tuesday, 19 January 2016 23:27 (ten years ago)

I'm personally responsible for 80% of the soundcloud plays of this song at this point.

Thee Macallan 18 Year, Tuesday, 19 January 2016 23:28 (ten years ago)

DS2 has some problems, it's solid but I can think of Metro Boomin productions I like better than his stuff on there, including "Jumpman" which is a great beat w crap rapping. So I'm fine with him releasing more stuff even if it's similar template, not like it's completely identical

nova, Wednesday, 20 January 2016 06:19 (ten years ago)

what is it with Future album/mixtapes being added then subtracted then added again with incomplete track list or changed Artist headings on Spotify . it's so random

(•̪●) (carne asada), Friday, 29 January 2016 16:54 (ten years ago)

yeah it sucks

Spottie, Friday, 29 January 2016 17:00 (ten years ago)

dont use spotify

lag∞n, Friday, 29 January 2016 17:03 (ten years ago)

I relistened to all the mixtapes after Purple Reign dropped and have thoughts

Monster: The highlights on here are great, second half of "Throw Away" (I know you could say it's not complete without the first half but it's a bit of a dirge IMO,) "Hardly," "Codeine Crazy." "After That" is a banger and reminds me of when I thought Wayne was rebounding until he put out three worthless projects last year. The first two songs are terrible though, "Radical" in particular. Actually this is the one I didn't finish all the way through originally so it was cool going back and finding a handful of dope songs.

Beast Mode: I like this almost all the way through but mainly on a solid, not-great level. "No Basic" is a cut above the rest though I think.

56 Nights: I get why this is seen as the best one and the siren drops are just a repeating producer tag, the beats are pretty varied within its template. But idk, to me it's kinda dreary besides "March Madness." In a certain mood I could maybe see feeling this more.

It's not so much that I think he's better/worse at one or another sound, but I remember playing Pluto a bunch when it dropped and while it's got it's flaws I miss some of the brighter sound it had overall. It's not necessary, plenty of the best songs from last year go for a bleak feel and succeed, but when they don't it's a little drab/monotonous.
