Spottie, Saturday, 19 December 2015 06:46 (ten years ago)

I walked home from a party last night and had this song on a loop for ~20 minutes

art baengels (monotony), Sunday, 20 December 2015 00:16 (ten years ago)

They were on our local station which does this thing "Theft of the Dial" where an artist sits in and gets to pick the songs for an hour http://www.thecurrent.org/feature/2015/12/18/theft-of-the-dial-the-1975

xpost My impression is he's very much heterosexual. He's obsessed with women.

Roaming gang of aggressive circlepits (ithappens), Sunday, 20 December 2015 12:32 (ten years ago)

is "ugh" the best 1975 song

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Wednesday, 23 December 2015 15:30 (ten years ago)

Ugh has really grown on me but I think Change of Heart is my favourite from the new songs.

All the new songs are great, I'm sort of worried about the length but the new album seems like it's going to be so much better than the debut.

ufo, Wednesday, 23 December 2015 16:26 (ten years ago)

there's something of the accelerated hyper-precise 80's worship gone a little bit crazy about 'ugh' that was missing from the debut - encouraging

probably.tasteful.forever (imago), Thursday, 24 December 2015 00:18 (ten years ago)

I feel like everything about the arrangement and production is perfect for an ode to cocaine.

ya, precisely otm

the bridge is just so great, the sense of flooding bloodstream relief from that wonderful rush of out-of-body soundz snapping back to "oh, the kick won't last for long... " fleeting clarity to "...but the song only last three minutes" immediate smartarse meta intertwining and then the scritti-est seductive angelic croon for "so won't u callllll it up for me" (ur inner reply follows on beat - it what matty?)

mostly the whole track is a fairground ride/tide matty bobs in and out of until they reach consonant duet with "i'm not giving it up!" exchanging with synth siren alarm stab for the finale

r|t|c, Thursday, 24 December 2015 00:54 (ten years ago)

two weeks pass...

they're playing columbus, oh on 5/22 and madison wisconsin on 5/24 with nothing currently announced for 5/23

chicago is about halfway between the two cities and they have no chicago dates announced (admittedly so is indianapolis and there are no indy dates either)

there is a huge gap in their schedule in july that coincides with lollapalooza (which has a notorious radius clause)

gr8080, Thursday, 7 January 2016 15:51 (ten years ago)

I'm glad I wrote my TSJ blurb before reading this thread. Soon as I heard the synth stab at the end of "Ugh" I thought "Perfect Way."

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 7 January 2016 15:54 (ten years ago)

when is the TSJ post for UGH! going up?

gr8080, Thursday, 7 January 2016 16:18 (ten years ago)

j. winters (josh), Wednesday, 13 January 2016 06:43 (ten years ago)

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Thursday, 14 January 2016 19:54 (ten years ago)

it's not about reciprocation it's just all about ME

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Thursday, 14 January 2016 19:55 (ten years ago)

i recommend getting to the solo

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Thursday, 14 January 2016 19:56 (ten years ago)

The Sound is kinda amazing.

Greer, Thursday, 14 January 2016 20:08 (ten years ago)

sounds a little generic coming off "ugh!" but it really builds

also it sounds thin as a radio rip but i bet the studio version will be better

J0rdan S., Thursday, 14 January 2016 23:27 (ten years ago)

yeah it sounds like there's a lot of details that don't come through fully in this rip, but this is probably their best single yet. I love all the production on the new tracks so much, it's all much more detailed and polished than the debut.

managed to get a ticket to see them in two days, very excited

ufo, Friday, 15 January 2016 03:46 (ten years ago)

still agog at the Walk The Moon tangent in this thread lol

some dude, Friday, 15 January 2016 03:50 (ten years ago)

xp yeah i ended up electing not to go to this tour as when the tickets went on sale there was no new music and i did see them in jan '15. really regret that now!

art baengels (monotony), Friday, 15 January 2016 04:04 (ten years ago)

I'm not mad about The Sound. But, seriously, wait till you hear The Ballad of Me and Brain, If I Believe You, Paris … Be interesting to see what you all make of She Lays Down, which is a one-take acoustic guitar ballad, that sounds not unlike Big Star. When I first heard it, Matthew was planning to gussy it up, add an extra verse, rerecord it, but everyone in the room – manager, producer, publicist, me – was saying JUST LEAVE IT! DON'T TOUCH IT! It's beautiful. Sorry for being an in-the-know wanker, but I've known these songs now for months and been unable to talk about them to anyone …

Roaming gang of aggressive circlepits (ithappens), Friday, 15 January 2016 09:03 (ten years ago)

matt healy has this great ability to sum up my life in three minutes songs. i can't deal with it.

and the solo is just <3

Nourry, Friday, 15 January 2016 11:35 (ten years ago)

the studio version is on spotify ... the way that this is kinda like hyperspeed house kinda reminds me of like a dj mustard beat

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 January 2016 16:18 (ten years ago)

i love the lyrics so much

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 15 January 2016 16:32 (ten years ago)

i thought that you were straight, now i'm wonderin'

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 15 January 2016 16:34 (ten years ago)

The guitar solo is so "Digital Love", I love it.

Tim F, Friday, 15 January 2016 19:55 (ten years ago)

yeah it all feels pretty daft punk, which is not the vibe i got from the live videos. imo it also sounds like "call me maybe"

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 15 January 2016 20:09 (ten years ago)

basically it was built for me to obsess over

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 15 January 2016 20:09 (ten years ago)

The guitar solo kept reminding me of a cross between the one from Digital Love and the guitar solo from Andrew Gold's Lonely Boy.

MarkoP, Friday, 15 January 2016 20:20 (ten years ago)

really "the sound" is an 80s prom slow dance song in EDM festival form

j. winters (josh), Saturday, 16 January 2016 09:10 (ten years ago)

idk to me it mostly sounds like passion pit with a recording budget

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Saturday, 16 January 2016 14:59 (ten years ago)

sounds ready-made for a dozen official remixes

gr8080, Saturday, 16 January 2016 23:26 (ten years ago)

SNL on feb. 6 with larry david :-p

J0rdan S., Sunday, 24 January 2016 22:21 (ten years ago)

early reports from ppl who have heard the promo suggest it is "moody" "mellow" and "atmospheric"

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Wednesday, 27 January 2016 02:18 (ten years ago)

sounds great

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 27 January 2016 02:18 (ten years ago)

agreed

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Wednesday, 27 January 2016 02:29 (ten years ago)

c'mon, dont't tease me more, I'm so anxious... there's no band nowadays that replicate the best the person that I am and my tastes. ugh

Nourry, Wednesday, 27 January 2016 03:00 (ten years ago)

that's excellent news

seeing them live confirmed that The Sound is definitely their best song so far

ufo, Wednesday, 27 January 2016 03:29 (ten years ago)

I'm so ready for the new album.

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Wednesday, 27 January 2016 07:40 (ten years ago)

I heard "Love Me" on the radio the other day and it sounded good on the radio.
