wondered why she was trending, turned out it was because she bit a security guard's breast after claiming to be on the rihanna album

"Jeremy" is stuck in my head now, thanks Azealia Banks
― Shkreli, Martin & Wu (some dude), Thursday, 17 December 2015 12:37 (ten years ago)
She was trending again, I was thinking "has she released something new or did she do something stupid" and it was the arraignment hearing for the biting fiasco lex posted upthread

I assumed it was the Donald Trump thing.
― Matt DC, Monday, 1 February 2016 21:21 (ten years ago)
what Donald- wait let me guess
*googles* ugh that was easy to guess
― its subtle brume (DJP), Monday, 1 February 2016 21:24 (ten years ago)
she was also tweeting about her new mixtape, although i'm guessing her regular fuckery gets more play on twitter than actual news w/ her nowadays

Congrats to Azealia Banks for having the same political goals as Ra's Al Ghul from batman

so i am actually listening to broke w/expensive taste right now and this is kinda awesome!
i kinda forgot about the album amid all her twitter controversies
it's an odd mix of dance/hip hop
i don't really know who this is supposed to be for, but it's good
i wonder how it would have been received if she wasn't always being such a loon on social media?
like it has a certain quality that's not a million miles away from the shamir album
― uptown garfunkel (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 18:48 (ten years ago)
I was surprised by how much I liked that album given how little I liked everything she released prior to it.
― its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 18:55 (ten years ago)
DJP, I'm surprised you weren't into "212" or the 1991 EP!

She's a perennial on the queer party circuit. I feel like "Heavy Metal & Reflective" is the song from BWET (other than "212") I hear out the most at this point.
― Hey (Extended Mix), Saturday, 27 February 2016 00:33 (ten years ago)
fyi just got home from a gay club where they played "212"

I really need to never look at her Twitter again. She really is a major artist and yet so much of the shit she types is just so noxious. Now she responds to KKK members showing up at a Trump rally with a "theory" of white racism that's actually a rehash of the pseudoscientific form racism actually took in the 19th century ("We as animals have natural, intrinsic tendencies to mate and socialize with people of our own racial group" - these are her words). I suppose Ice Cube circa Death Certificate was on a similar wavelength, but he didn't have a Twitter page. In the face of an actual white supremacist movement actually going mainstream through the stupefying magnetism of an overgrown schoolyard bully I can understand why people are apt to throw up everything they got, but it's still distressing to hear yet more ignorant bullshit in response from a talent who you'd think would know better.
― Futuristic Bow Wow (thewufs), Sunday, 28 February 2016 06:30 (ten years ago)
a talent who you'd think would know better
Genuine question: why would you think she'd know better? "She's young and black and a clever lyricist, therefore she can't possibly also be a stupid bigot"?
― the top man in the language department (誤訳侮辱), Sunday, 28 February 2016 15:42 (ten years ago)

― spirited ai weiwei (Treeship), Sunday, 28 February 2016 16:01 (ten years ago)

Not so fast...
"Azealia engages in a form of racism and hate that is celebrated by some in the perverted arm of pop culture, but is condemned by those who know it's tearing our country apart. Others may keep turning a blind eye to problems like Azealia's mouth; I choose to take a stand against it and the double standards that result in her actually being rewarded for her divisive tactics and aggressively inciting violence. ... Let's be honest here: if a white girl were to say what this black girl is saying, the screams for the entire white population's head would be louder than the nonsensical rap that Azealia spews all the way to the bank. The white girl would probably be locked up. ... I think this time I don't just sit back and swallow it, but put the fear of God in her by holding her accountable. As many of you have for years implored me to do, I'm finally going to sue."

not that it matters, but i am pretty sure palin didn't write that statement. have you seen the transcripts of her recent speaking engagements?
im w Banks here. Palin is a shitlord
― AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 6 April 2016 00:30 (ten years ago)
azealia banks is also full of shit though
Also, i never said you should be raped. I used the term “run a train,” which is slang for group sex, NOT for “rape.” There are many distinctions between the two. As a woman, I would never trivialize something as lewd and criminal to provide myself any sort of comic relief because it simply… just isn’t funny.

Banks doesn't come off too great here; hard to when you are taking a satirical news story at face value. But Palin going all "if a white person had done this..." is (characteristically) repulsive.
― rhymes with "blondie blast" (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 6 April 2016 00:39 (ten years ago)
seems like saying less dumb shit than sarah palin should be a pretty low bar to clear, especially for internet social justice hero azealia banks, and yet...
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 6 April 2016 00:42 (ten years ago)
crypto otm. that was way grosser and it seems like Banks is actually trying to walk back what she said. wtf with this "put the fear of god into you" bs?
― AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 6 April 2016 00:45 (ten years ago)
azealia banks is an amoral provocateur. not as dangerous as palin but it's still a pretty juvenile, indefensible stance
― Treeship, Wednesday, 6 April 2016 00:47 (ten years ago)
Not trying to exonerate Banks at all--even if she "didn't mean rape," the idea of proposing sex with black men as corrective punishment is vile (and, yes, racist) in ways Banks is obviously not smart enough to understand. But it seemed like this should have all been over with the minute Banks apologized/admitted her mistake, and yet that's when Palin decided to make this her "I'm gonna strike a blow against 'reverse racism' and attacks on my family" moment.

I think we're overlooking the real issue here, though, which is: is Banks' new mixtape cover Photoshopped, or did she get breast implants?
