Great track, love the static and lights in the video, but part of me is all like: stop flaying around and put a shirt on!
― MikoMcha, Friday, 18 December 2015 15:20 (eight years ago) link
Between these last two videos, I can't help but wonder if Matty is not totally heterosexual or if the vaguely 80s new wave pink and neon aesthetics are throwing me off.

she said "i've got a problem with your shoes and your tunes but i might move in"and "i thought that you were straight, now i'm wonderin'"

Are these lyrics? Because I don't actually digest what Matty says half the time anyway.
― Greer, Friday, 18 December 2015 15:50 (eight years ago) link
yeah they're for "the sound" which i posted upthread
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 18 December 2015 15:50 (eight years ago) link
god the "perfect way" synth stab at the end of "ugh"
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 18 December 2015 19:24 (eight years ago) link
Once I heard "ugh" in high quality I was totally sold. Feel like they are getting ...if not better, more defined

more beautiful
― Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 19 December 2015 00:28 (eight years ago) link
this is so awesomely compressed and stop-start - both the music and the singing. I feel like everything about the arrangement and production is perfect for an ode to cocaine.
― Tim F, Saturday, 19 December 2015 05:49 (eight years ago) link
i'm gonna ruin this song for myself but it hasn't stopped being totally fascinating
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Saturday, 19 December 2015 05:57 (eight years ago) link
Yep. I've listened 7 times today.
― Tim F, Saturday, 19 December 2015 06:00 (eight years ago) link
They sound so tight on this, seems like it would be hard to pull off live.
― Spottie, Saturday, 19 December 2015 06:46 (eight years ago) link
they have such great drums on every track
I walked home from a party last night and had this song on a loop for ~20 minutes

They were on our local station which does this thing "Theft of the Dial" where an artist sits in and gets to pick the songs for an hour http://www.thecurrent.org/feature/2015/12/18/theft-of-the-dial-the-1975

is "ugh" the best 1975 song
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Wednesday, 23 December 2015 15:30 (eight years ago) link
Ugh has really grown on me but I think Change of Heart is my favourite from the new songs.
All the new songs are great, I'm sort of worried about the length but the new album seems like it's going to be so much better than the debut.
― ufo, Wednesday, 23 December 2015 16:26 (eight years ago) link
there's something of the accelerated hyper-precise 80's worship gone a little bit crazy about 'ugh' that was missing from the debut - encouraging

ya, precisely otm
the bridge is just so great, the sense of flooding bloodstream relief from that wonderful rush of out-of-body soundz snapping back to "oh, the kick won't last for long... " fleeting clarity to "...but the song only last three minutes" immediate smartarse meta intertwining and then the scritti-est seductive angelic croon for "so won't u callllll it up for me" (ur inner reply follows on beat - it what matty?)
mostly the whole track is a fairground ride/tide matty bobs in and out of until they reach consonant duet with "i'm not giving it up!" exchanging with synth siren alarm stab for the finale
― r|t|c, Thursday, 24 December 2015 00:54 (eight years ago) link
they're playing columbus, oh on 5/22 and madison wisconsin on 5/24 with nothing currently announced for 5/23
chicago is about halfway between the two cities and they have no chicago dates announced (admittedly so is indianapolis and there are no indy dates either)
there is a huge gap in their schedule in july that coincides with lollapalooza (which has a notorious radius clause)

I'm glad I wrote my TSJ blurb before reading this thread. Soon as I heard the synth stab at the end of "Ugh" I thought "Perfect Way."

― Greer, Thursday, 14 January 2016 20:08 (eight years ago) link
sounds a little generic coming off "ugh!" but it really builds
also it sounds thin as a radio rip but i bet the studio version will be better
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 14 January 2016 23:27 (eight years ago) link
yeah it sounds like there's a lot of details that don't come through fully in this rip, but this is probably their best single yet. I love all the production on the new tracks so much, it's all much more detailed and polished than the debut.
managed to get a ticket to see them in two days, very excited

I'm not mad about The Sound. But, seriously, wait till you hear The Ballad of Me and Brain, If I Believe You, Paris … Be interesting to see what you all make of She Lays Down, which is a one-take acoustic guitar ballad, that sounds not unlike Big Star. When I first heard it, Matthew was planning to gussy it up, add an extra verse, rerecord it, but everyone in the room – manager, producer, publicist, me – was saying JUST LEAVE IT! DON'T TOUCH IT! It's beautiful. Sorry for being an in-the-know wanker, but I've known these songs now for months and been unable to talk about them to anyone …

matt healy has this great ability to sum up my life in three minutes songs. i can't deal with it.
and the solo is just <3
