when I needed you sounds like a demo only diehard stans should know about, I have no idea what people find appealing about it

qualx, Friday, 11 December 2015 07:26 (ten years ago)

you're mental

Number None, Friday, 11 December 2015 07:33 (ten years ago)

I mean if you don't want to punch the air the first time she launches into "sometimes I wish that I could CHANGE" then idk

Number None, Friday, 11 December 2015 07:34 (ten years ago)

Carly Rae Jepsen. Fuck... This is what music is supposed to be. And, I'm not even Geir. Jeez.

Black Heart is pretty dud though

Sharkie, Friday, 11 December 2015 13:50 (ten years ago)

"when i needed you" is like a reengineered "you're not the one" and the lyric is crazy intricate for a love/breakup song imo

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 11 December 2015 15:52 (ten years ago)

yeah its totally YNTO! same drums and progression.

Spottie, Friday, 11 December 2015 16:41 (ten years ago)

idgi sorry. it is an unpleasantly boring song to me. the only part that isn't is the little "you come to me" bit. I can't get past the melody on the rest of it.

qualx, Friday, 11 December 2015 17:06 (ten years ago)

Black Heart was kind of my way in to this album, it's a great track but admittedly does the least service towards the album as a whole

gr8080, Friday, 11 December 2015 17:21 (ten years ago)

and technically it's a bonus track but w/e

gr8080, Friday, 11 December 2015 17:22 (ten years ago)

I like black heart when I actually listen to it I just never feel compelled to listen to it, esp when idjchtd is right there

qualx, Friday, 11 December 2015 17:45 (ten years ago)

I listened to this album in 2015.

markers, Friday, 11 December 2015 17:49 (ten years ago)

would love a Sky Ferreira version of black heart

gr8080, Friday, 11 December 2015 18:53 (ten years ago)

yo i'll be going to the noise pop show at the warfield

j. winters (josh), Friday, 11 December 2015 19:33 (ten years ago)

same

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 11 December 2015 20:11 (ten years ago)

i am considering it

gr8080, Friday, 11 December 2015 20:43 (ten years ago)

two weeks pass...

this album's good. lots of the melodies redolent of tom petty, interestingly enough. is this a stated influence?

'when i needed you' = 'don't come around here no more' too

probably.tasteful.forever (imago), Monday, 28 December 2015 20:31 (ten years ago)

how many EMOTION songs did you put on your P&J singles ballot? how many did you kinda want to?

(1 and 4 for me)

alpine static, Monday, 28 December 2015 21:00 (ten years ago)

iTunes couldn't recognise the album when I tried to rip the CD this morning, so I had to type in all the info and manually add the cover art. I'm sure it's just an issue with my machine, but it feels symbolic somehow.

Mercer Finn, Wednesday, 30 December 2015 12:08 (ten years ago)

finally bought this on the weekend, goddamn i love it

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 4 January 2016 23:58 (ten years ago)

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 5 January 2016 00:03 (ten years ago)

I've decided to go to the Gimmie Love tour a second time, because fuck it

Sharkie, Wednesday, 6 January 2016 18:57 (ten years ago)

I have listened to Emotion on repeat every day since Saturday

there's no songs I hate! i am sometimes meh about Boy Probs but it comes and goes

LA Hallucination chorus is so addictive

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 6 January 2016 19:42 (ten years ago)

being meh about Boy Problems is not acceptable

Number None, Wednesday, 6 January 2016 19:47 (ten years ago)

I hope she comes back to the UK, one-off London show was stunning.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 6 January 2016 19:48 (ten years ago)

*sometimes* meh, jeez

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 6 January 2016 19:58 (ten years ago)

the thing about boy problems is the way that somewhere around the midway point it has, before you know it, become a kind of psychedelic fugue that fractals in and out of itself

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 6 January 2016 21:29 (ten years ago)

^^^^ hm yes

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 January 2016 21:50 (ten years ago)

i was there!!

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 7 January 2016 08:57 (ten years ago)

There are so many good things about Boy Problems:

- The 'nah-nah-nah-nah-nah's
- The baseline! The fucking baseline!
- The fact it should have been bigger than 'Get Lucky'
- The 'DUN! DUN! DUN!' just before the chorus
- The satisfying syncopation(?) of the backing vocals after she sings 'worse problems...' (something about 'my boyfriend')

canoon fooder (dog latin), Thursday, 7 January 2016 09:16 (ten years ago)
