have you ever heard Ne-Yo's first single, "Stay"? always thought that was a good uptempo jam, but yeah i kinda know what you mean, joyful is not really an adjective that comes up a lot with his stuff, but then that's not what i listen to him for.

I find "Closer" to be incredibly joyful.

I listen to Ne-Yo for his voice. I think he's got great pipes.

Somehow he misses the sweet spot for me; just can't find him compelling.

"Mad" is only fun to sing along if you pretend he's sneezing in the chorus like "i don't wanna go to bed mad -- achoo!"

yeah it's known that i will stunt for "mad" forever, but i kinda thought "single" had the better singalong. also, "mad" is on the radio, so it might be easier to run into that

i don't think Ne-Yo is compelling per se, i don't rate his albums as highly as other people here and he's a bit bland and edgeless, but he's very good at his craft and makes tons of enjoyable singles

i think YOTG is pleasant to listen to but there's a lot of songs in the middle of the album where i can't remember at all what they sound like — the singles from the album are undeniable tho imo

yeah...i just saw that "Part Of The List" is planned as the next single and had trouble even remembering how it goes

it's okay... reeeally adult contempo but i guess lots of the album is - the chorus has a nice little lift tho

Uh....what? The-Dream is the most sui generis person making radio r&b at the moment.

i can kinda sorta see where forks is coming from in the sense that the-dream is kind of like a generic r&b artist for the post-r. kelly/t-pain era, but i eventually came around to see that dude has some unique things going for him as far as singing/lyrics/production.

this is boringly true of all things but a great part of enjoying ne-yo is in getting into or recognising the absurdities of his character sometimes. a lot of guys could sing what he sings but (for instance) just him in particular top gunning the "commander in chief of my pimp shit FLYING HIIIIIIIGH" on the recent keri hilson collabo makes my lolday every time

with that silly beat as well

been lovin the way he sassed the "yes!" at 1:30 on this cut too

haha that silly Ne-Yo verse is the only thing I like about "Knock You Down." is it "pimp ship" or "pimp shit" though? i always heard it as the former and thought it made more sense in the lyric that way, but then i heard a radio station play it censored like "pimp ____ flyin' high" and got confused.

well yes pimp ship would make more sense to you wouldnt it.

I'm pretty sure it is "pimp ship"; he talks about being shot down by a "pretty little missile"; besides which I've seen it on BET uncensored in that fashion. I think your radio station is overly cautious.
I'm gonna quit hating, but I'm just not hearing what you guys are hearing. Maybe I'll try again over the weekend, I'm on a heavy UGK/GMob kick just now tho'.

Just watched that utube; I have a soft spot for Chubb Rock and I like the harmonies there along with the Tone Toni Ton'e! vibe... Ne Yo just feels so much more processed.
FWIW, he seems like a much better live performer than CB. Solid live dancer too.

It occurs to me that i have a real double standard with high sheen polish with my pop stars: i don't mind if women are super burnished, but it turns me off when male artist are all megaproduced, image conscious and squeaky fresh and clean.

NEW YORK – The unexpected success of a song criticizing Chris Brown has caused havoc for two previously unknown bands.

A group of DJs from Chicago found unexpected airplay last week when radio stations began playing "My Flow Is So Tight." The main lyric suggests that Brown, who's been charged with felony assault and making criminal threats against R&B singer Rihanna, should be beaten for his alleged crime.

Brown pleaded not guilty Monday.

The DJs behind the anti-Brown song called themselves Smoke Jumpers, but that name had already been taken by an Austin, Texas, hip-hop group. The group says they quickly changed their name to Jump Smokers.

The original Smoke Jumpers aren't amused. The group's Ashley Harkrider says their name has been hurt "in the minds of music listeners everywhere."
