Talentwise, yes. Everyday is better than UTTAD, but the future will tell if their peak has passed, or is yet to come. What is your obsession with the friggen cover band? I saw them in Myrtle beach and they were shit compared to DMB. Plus DMB actually wrote the stuff and is somewhat crative in playing their parts...doesn't take much to just play it how it's written (as DMCB do)

You have a hard time figuring out how one could characterize DMB's music as "noodley" and "bloated"? Do your ears work?

"Noodley" (or might I spell it "noodly" or conceivably "noodlesque") could easily be applied to the band's ceaselessly masturbatory penchant for directionless "jamming" and soloing.

"Bloated," meanwhile, as used towards DMB could aptly sum up both their elephantine conceit of musical prowess and the overall lumpen sonic girth that characterizes their music.

Generally, people who are mentally and physically satisfied with their own lives don't tend to announce everything that they hate. Arguing about something as utterly subjective as personal taste where it relates to music is pointless.

Ryan, do you see that we're all arguing about our personal taste in music, both those who love DMB and those who don't? And do you further see that, in their staunch defense of their man, the pro-DMB forces have prolonged the lifespan of this argument by about, oh, three days?

I actually only heard 3 track by them via MTV and i gotta say they left me with nothing to like or to hate. they're virtually non existant where i live. I heard it some years ago and remember it sounded boring and the guys voice irritated me.

But many people like them too. Thats the way of the world. We wont agree on everything. But we should remain civil and respect one anothers opinions. But i dont have a problem with people writing here about their dislike of DMB and other bands as long as I (and others) are allowed to respond.
I do wonder if we could agree on any bands though it should be fun finding out.

Paige, play fair - Alex's definition of "noodley" isn't hard to grasp, and it's a word often used to describe lots of focus on rock soloing/improv etc.

Regardless of how I feel about DMB, this is a dumb thing to say. EVERYONE who's had ANY measure of success will still have people listening to them ten years after their success. Fact.

Actually, I defy anyone on this thread to list a band/artist who had a hit that no one ever listens to anymore. You just can't do it unless you happen to know exactly what every human being on the face of the earth is listening to at any given moment.

So what would make them any different than 80% of the artists popular today? How many huge acts from 1993 are still relevant, viable forces today? (The ones I can immediately think of are Snoop, Dre and Madonna; most of the other big hitters from then have fallen off big time.)

That's a classic example of objective data used in a deeply subjective manner. The fact that the majority of people don't take Tiffany seriously or have forgotten about her doesn't change the fact that there are fans of hers today who think that she's the greatest performer ever. Furthermore, that's completely within their perogative and their rights as music listeners.

This thread has turned into a rote exercize of heaping scorn on other people's musical tastes for the cardinal sin of being different when it should have focused on heaping scorn on poxy Dave Matthews and his frightening chin.

second I rilly want some DMB fans to tell me which songs they like most, how the sound of his songs changed over the last few albums, why it stopped having that goofy bouncy feel of "what would you say" and if that's a good or bad thing, whether you like dave's peppy or dreamy voice more, etc.
