guiltily listen to throwed from time to time still.

Plaxico (I know, right?), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 10:52 (seventeen years ago)

so do you avoid music by all suspected/convicted abusers or just chris brown?

lil waynes babymama (musically), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 14:34 (seventeen years ago)

it's a lot easier to say goodbye when the abuser is as dead ass boring as chris brown

d20 riot tard (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 14:39 (seventeen years ago)

the weird thing is i strongly disliked the kid a couple years ago but now he has a handful of songs i genuinely like, and even though i think he's totally despicable as a person, i will still jam "No Air" and "Yo" and "Freeze" and not think about all that stuff.

Shawty Lo Collier (some dude), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 14:48 (seventeen years ago)

i know i've seen his videos a ton of times, i can't even recall one song or melody or hook except for that david banner song

lol he has a song called "say goodbye"

the rickey henderson of sbs (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 16:06 (seventeen years ago)

i still rock all my chris brown jams, of which there are many

the rickey henderson of sbs (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 16:06 (seventeen years ago)

i'm not deliberately avoiding listening to cb out of principle, i'm fully aware that i'll go back to them at some point, but just...not yet

lol this is so, so, so true

Fortunately I never actually owned anything by him and never planned to get anything by him because he's corny, so it's kind of a non-issue for me.

maybe u should tell that to your laughing vagina (HI DERE), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 16:10 (seventeen years ago)

given how much Dom was into CB's music I really wish he was still here to share his opinion right now. RIP.

Shawty Lo Collier (some dude), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 16:15 (seventeen years ago)

I keep trying to find the greater appeal in Ne Yo, seeing as it seems I'm gonna have to settle for that cat until CB gets a media exoneration and can release goofy ass pop without people gasping, but NY is just so fucking straight-faced and full of gravitas.
There's nothing posi about smacking up your girl, pop star or not, but Brown was always mugging to the camera and really sounded like he was enjoying his moment. Ne Yo sounds like he has a dinner date at 8 and needs to hit the gym first, so let's get this bar over with.
If y'all have some joyful Ne Yo songs (or another suitably goofy contemp R&B kid for me instead), please point em out.

i'm warning you with peace and love but i have too much to do (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 16:46 (seventeen years ago)

idk forks, i could see what you're saying wrt ne-yo on some of his album tracks but "closer" and "miss independent" are two of the best clubby r&n trax in a long while imo

the rickey henderson of sbs (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 16:48 (seventeen years ago)

I think you want The Dream, maybe?

maybe u should tell that to your laughing vagina (HI DERE), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 16:49 (seventeen years ago)

have you ever heard Ne-Yo's first single, "Stay"? always thought that was a good uptempo jam, but yeah i kinda know what you mean, joyful is not really an adjective that comes up a lot with his stuff, but then that's not what i listen to him for.

Shawty Lo Collier (some dude), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 16:49 (seventeen years ago)

I find "Closer" to be incredibly joyful.

maybe u should tell that to your laughing vagina (HI DERE), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 16:51 (seventeen years ago)

i love hearing it but i dunno, what i like about it is that it's a little brooding

Shawty Lo Collier (some dude), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 16:53 (seventeen years ago)

eh, The Dream is boring in a lack of sui generis qualities way that makes most quiet storm shit seem scintillating.
I'll go back and relisten to those tracks; I got the album... just not clicking.
What DO you listen to Ne Yo for?

i'm warning you with peace and love but i have too much to do (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 16:54 (seventeen years ago)

o never mind, you just intimated

i'm warning you with peace and love but i have too much to do (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 16:54 (seventeen years ago)

I listen to Ne-Yo for his voice. I think he's got great pipes.

maybe u should tell that to your laughing vagina (HI DERE), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 16:54 (seventeen years ago)

there really is noone else on the radio i enjoy singing along with more. not that i can sing, but he's right in the perfect register where i can pretend to hit the notes and there are all these great little twists and turns that make the melodies fun to sing.

Shawty Lo Collier (some dude), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 16:58 (seventeen years ago)

ya forks wtf are you talking about

btw if you want singalong choruses go with "single"

prostitutes all over the place (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:04 (seventeen years ago)

mad is best sing along chorus, miss independent is best for verses

the rickey henderson of sbs (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

so sick is best 4 all time

the rickey henderson of sbs (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

Somehow he misses the sweet spot for me; just can't find him compelling.
Everybody else seems to love him...>shrug<
I'll try the album again front to back.

i'm warning you with peace and love but i have too much to do (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

"Mad" is only fun to sing along if you pretend he's sneezing in the chorus like "i don't wanna go to bed mad -- achoo!"

Shawty Lo Collier (some dude), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

yeah it's known that i will stunt for "mad" forever, but i kinda thought "single" had the better singalong. also, "mad" is on the radio, so it might be easier to run into that

looool xpost

prostitutes all over the place (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

i don't think Ne-Yo is compelling per se, i don't rate his albums as highly as other people here and he's a bit bland and edgeless, but he's very good at his craft and makes tons of enjoyable singles

Shawty Lo Collier (some dude), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:09 (seventeen years ago)

i think YOTG is pleasant to listen to but there's a lot of songs in the middle of the album where i can't remember at all what they sound like — the singles from the album are undeniable tho imo

the rickey henderson of sbs (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

yeah...i just saw that "Part Of The List" is planned as the next single and had trouble even remembering how it goes

Shawty Lo Collier (some dude), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:17 (seventeen years ago)

it's okay... reeeally adult contempo but i guess lots of the album is - the chorus has a nice little lift tho

the rickey henderson of sbs (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:24 (seventeen years ago)

sounds like something off the free willy soundtrack

the rickey henderson of sbs (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:27 (seventeen years ago)

haha yeah i remember when Ne-Yo hosted the BET video countdown, a really scary amount of his picks were MJ and Prince stuff from the 90s

Shawty Lo Collier (some dude), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:29 (seventeen years ago)

yeah and he was working out at chelsea piers and being really unappealing as i recall

i'm warning you with peace and love but i have too much to do (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:30 (seventeen years ago)

'part of the list' is one of my favourites off YOTG. "things like your funny little laugh, or the way you smile - or the way we kiss..."

lex pretend, Tuesday, 7 April 2009 22:15 (seventeen years ago)

oh yeah "Part Of The List" is the song where Ne-Yo says he loves the way his girl's right hand is bigger than the left and I crack up picturing him with a hermit crab woman!

andrei armpitshavin (some dude), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 22:18 (seventeen years ago)

Uh....what? The-Dream is the most sui generis person making radio r&b at the moment.

there really is noone else on the radio i enjoy singing along with more. not that i can sing, but he's right in the perfect register where i can pretend to hit the notes and there are all these great little twists and turns that make the melodies fun to sing.

being a baritone sucks because there's so much good tenor range shit I can't sing :(

tuppancewear party (The Reverend), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 02:07 (seventeen years ago)

The Dream is the most unique musician in R&B? uh?

If God Loves Me, Why Can't I Get My Locker Open? (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 03:37 (seventeen years ago)

I would accept sui GENERIC, but not so much that other latin thing

If God Loves Me, Why Can't I Get My Locker Open? (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 03:38 (seventeen years ago)

forks is like the r&b tuomas

k3vin k., Wednesday, 8 April 2009 03:45 (seventeen years ago)

listen here, speedy gonzales: I was gettin' it on to the sweet sounds of Luther Ingram while you were still doing the cabbage patch.
If not loving the Dream is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

i can kinda sorta see where forks is coming from in the sense that the-dream is kind of like a generic r&b artist for the post-r. kelly/t-pain era, but i eventually came around to see that dude has some unique things going for him as far as singing/lyrics/production.

far beyond steendriven (some dude), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 14:26 (seventeen years ago)

this is boringly true of all things but a great part of enjoying ne-yo is in getting into or recognising the absurdities of his character sometimes. a lot of guys could sing what he sings but (for instance) just him in particular top gunning the "commander in chief of my pimp shit FLYING HIIIIIIIGH" on the recent keri hilson collabo makes my lolday every time

r|t|c, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 14:48 (seventeen years ago)

with that silly beat as well

r|t|c, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 14:48 (seventeen years ago)

been lovin the way he sassed the "yes!" at 1:30 on this cut too
