The arrangements throughout are gorgeous, but my favorite moment is Credit's piano/sax coda

here's where i admit rtc was right & i think this album is kind of disappointing on the whole

individual moments shine for me (esp "solid") but i think its mainly that the erm sexiness of beach house—the louche lothario has been replaced not so much by a scumbag but by someone going thru the motions in a way that gets no enjoyment from it

idk. im optimistic about beach house 3

i also think his EP with Wiz Khalifa this year was #actually pretty tight, even if it makes you feel like you're taking wiz khalifa's side in some domestic drama

wrong this album is a classic

i don't really want him to be sexy. his misogyny sorta has that z-ro style 'ho just leave me alone playing xbox by my lonesome' almost cozy vibe. also the album has, like, musical humor that complements lyrical humour in a great way; the background vocs on "Know Ya" (strookiiin')

i thought what jordan wrote about credit applies to most of the album actually, the songwriting stands alone. like "Straight up" is a how had no one phrased that verse melody before

an album doesnt really need every style and every guest kinda a weird approach some imo, def jams on there tho, at least one major turd too

the Kanye moment is a turd but such a quality lol that i listen to it every time

this album is almost entirely stylistically coherent, like remove track 2 and then everything up to blasé has ml the same vibe, at which pt it's refreshing to switch gears

i really don't think of this as an album that jumps around a lot stylistically, the classic soul samples tie it all together. even the metro boomin production sounds like temptations

need to go back to beach house but i do feel i have overplayed his joyless ogling somewhat, still not real sexi but occasionally capable of a kind of ironized pat-on-the-ass affectionate warmth

think d-40 has a deeper investment and sees an extra upper echelon to him than others perhaps, not criticising cos in some ways understandable but mainly cos of that i was more about addressing the expectation/disappointment matrix for an album that otherwise is p above average okay imo

still haven't really spent time with this record, looking at the tracklisting exhausts me

lost my headphones so ive been listened to music on my shitty laptop speakers for months. BUT the other day i put together my old hifi and first thing i played on it was 'horses in the stable'. shit sounded so good it was a quasi-religious experience. ty$ has a great attention to detail when it comes to sound design.

yeah his nerd side really comes out on this record, it's biggest strength imo

to be clear yeah i don't think this is a bad album by any stretch, just disappointing w/r/t what i hoped for

individual moments shine when taken out of context but it bugs me that when 'blase' comes on that i kind of check in, because i never even liked that song much in the first place

i listen to it front to back but the floplist for those unwilling to wade thru 19 songs or whatever it is would be like

I guess most of them are him talking to TC now that I'm listening closer. The TV announcer one is kinda annoying. I've listened to that transition between "Straight Up" and "Solid" enough times that I have it basically memorized.

So this album is way overlooked right? I meant to check it out but the buzz died down so fast I kinda forgot about it. Heard it for the first time last week and I was really surprised it didn't get more love
