And you know what, fuck all that anyway because he's a killer MC. And I shouldn't even have to qualify that. The most gut-wrenching ONE BAR I've heard in hip-hop all year is from Lupe, because it's complicated subject matter phrased with a complicated rhyme scheme and full of great visuals, yet he makes it seem so EFFORTLESS:
No positive male role model/To play football or build railroad models

Apparently the new record is called The Cool and will continue the story of the guy from the least entertaining song on the first album.

Soulja Boy dude was on Ellen, too. she is single-handedly responsible for all black music in America today. i believe she also gave Ice Cube his verse on 'Straight Outta Compton' to build his confidence.
― Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 8 February 2008 19:48 (eighteen years ago)
What a wonderful world this would be if the above were true!
― HI DERE, Friday, 8 February 2008 19:52 (eighteen years ago)
i never lie about the ellen show
― M@tt He1ges0n, Friday, 8 February 2008 20:00 (eighteen years ago)
I meant the whole "Ellen gave Ice Cube his verse on 'Straight Outta Compton'" thing.
― HI DERE, Friday, 8 February 2008 20:06 (eighteen years ago)

My mom, last night: "Some rapper has dropped out of Last Day of Classes so he can tour with Kanye West." Me: "What's his name?" Her: "Now I can't think of it..." Me: "Uh... Yung Joc? Hurricane Chris? Souja Boy? It can't be Lil Wayne." Her: "No, it's not Lil Wayne." Me: !

i have some questions about this superstar joint
1) who is this tard singing the chorus?? is this the cat from one republic or coldplay dude or what?
2) why does the intro sound like old acid house? is this sampled from a guy called gerald or something?
― and what, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:20 (eighteen years ago)
it's some random guy lupe signed to his label
― The Brainwasher, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:21 (eighteen years ago)
His name is Matthew Santos.
― jaymc, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:54 (eighteen years ago)
false coldplay dude called matthew santos. did some bad choruses on food & liquor too.
cause fnf's in-house producers are crazy

I'm sure I've said this before but "American Terrorist" was like my #1 keeper off that album.
― Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:57 (eighteen years ago)
Why does the beginning of the "Superstar" video look like the beginning of the "U Got the Look" video?
― The Reverend, Thursday, 14 February 2008 20:02 (eighteen years ago)
Lupe's bungling of Tribe Called Quest lyrics on some award show seems to have tainted him for some
― curmudgeon, Friday, 15 February 2008 21:04 (eighteen years ago)
lol welcome to three months ago
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 15 February 2008 21:10 (eighteen years ago)
it did make him seem like a taint, yeah.
― Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 15 February 2008 21:11 (eighteen years ago)
I think cuz he's on tour now it was getting brought up again.
― curmudgeon, Friday, 15 February 2008 21:12 (eighteen years ago)
-- curmudgeon, Friday, 15 February 2008 21:04
yeah i'm a little skeptical of his 'i never heard tribe before' shit cause "paris, tokyo" sounds straight off midnight marauders.
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 15 February 2008 21:23 (eighteen years ago)
i'm not usually one for grandstanding boycotts, but if he refuses to listen to a classic album (or several of them) out of spite or some misguided attempt to make a point, i'm happy to refuse to listen to his definitely-not-a-classic new album.
still kinda shocked at how well his new one's selling, though, even given the fact that bougie rap fans are the only kind that haven't stopped buying CDs.
― Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 15 February 2008 21:28 (eighteen years ago)
rhymefest is probably rushing out his second album
― J0rdan S., Friday, 15 February 2008 21:29 (eighteen years ago)
