like this is bad enough that it makes me reassess my enjoyment of 'where are u now' and 'sorry' and 'what do u mean' in that it is just a crasser more straightforward market share grab for people who found those songs too subtleplus it allows beebs the opportunity to rah rah his vapid philanthropic pride for (if i am hearing this correctly) "making a difference"*coughs out a throat oyster* ¡MILLENNIALS! *shakes fist at cloud*

serious lols at Purpose with his sub tuesdays with morrie life lessonsi am compelled to transcribe this for future generations:
i don't know if this is wrong because someone else is telling me that it's wrongbut i feel this so let me just like TRY my best not to let this happen againwe weren't necessarily put in the best position to make the best decisionsyou can't be hard on yourself for it; these were the cards that you were givenso you have to understand that these, like, that's not who you are; you know you're trying to be the best you can be, but that's all that you can doif you don't give it at all you got, you're only cheating yourselfgive it all you got, but if it ends up happening, it ends up happening.that's what's happening with me it's like: i don't giving it all i got, sometimes i'm weak and i'm gonna do itand it's like, I'm not giving myself grace, I'm just understanding that's just how it is

"The feeling" is pretty awesome: "Sugar on your lips, it's hard to kill/Jagged like a pill, so hard to swallow"
Best album he's released to date

bar, too
i dunno, i think purpose is kinda garbage except for the singles and not even all thosemuch prefer journals
― i made a scope for my laser musket out of some (forksclovetofu), Friday, 13 November 2015 21:17 (ten years ago)
too many of the good songs (the singles) are shoved toward the front of the album and even that section is poorly sequenced
hm maybe my expectations were unnecessarily high but the only keeper other than what was out before the album is "company" which i wouldn't be surprised to see as a radio single further down the line
the halsey collaboration threatens to be great for ~the length of its first verse but the brightness of the chorus doesn't contrast well
i'm sure the title track will make a touching closer to his live set, hopefully with the voice recording part scraped out lol

OK, i liked--and still like--"What Do You Mean," but this album is crashing bore.
― Fetty Wap Is Strong In Here (cryptosicko), Monday, 30 November 2015 20:15 (ten years ago)
Every single song on it is in the UK Top 100 :/
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Monday, 30 November 2015 20:48 (ten years ago)
i caved in to "sorry", it's the second build-and-release in the chorus that really pushes it over the top
― lex pretend, Thursday, 10 December 2015 14:26 (ten years ago)
"what do you mean" and "where are u now" still don't do anything for me, "i'll show you" remains repulsive trash
Which, according to the Radio, means he takes the 'record' off Elvis for the most entries in the singles chart.
― Mark G, Thursday, 10 December 2015 14:46 (ten years ago)
read something similar re "reading this it's too late" but doesn't make sense since the tracks are not released as singles, right? stating the obvious but album streams don't = single sales
― niels, Thursday, 10 December 2015 15:02 (ten years ago)
Yes, but they still put them in the 'singles' chart.
― Mark G, Thursday, 10 December 2015 15:10 (ten years ago)
people love recordssetting records, that is
― niels, Thursday, 10 December 2015 15:27 (ten years ago)
don't know if this affects it but he also made a video for every song

“I feel like that’s why I have a relationship with Him, because I need it. I suck by myself. Like, when I’m by myself and I feel like I have nothing to lean on? Terrible. Terrible person. If I was doing this on my own, I would constantly be doing things that are, I mean, I still am doing things that are stupid, but… It just gives me some sort of hope and something to grasp onto, and a feeling of security, and a feeling of being wanted, and a feeling of being desired, and I feel like we can only get so much of that from a human.”
― ulysses, Thursday, 11 February 2016 23:34 (ten years ago)
The whole interview is a Caity Weaver masterpiece.
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 11 February 2016 23:54 (ten years ago)
it's definitely a good piece conjured out of mostly nothing.
― ulysses, Friday, 12 February 2016 00:04 (ten years ago)
I've never read Caity Weaver before. She's pretty great isn't she?
― impossible raver (Re-Make/Re-Model), Friday, 12 February 2016 13:29 (ten years ago)
caity weaver's advice column is the best thing gawker has ever published and i'm still a bit mad that she was so good that it had to end

Oh my goodness, people are really, really upset at Justin Bieber.
― clemenza, Saturday, 23 April 2016 13:16 (ten years ago)
Found out today that my dental hygienist's sister taught Justin Bieber's mother. That's, what, about nine-and-a-half degrees of separation?

lol i love that Ed Sheeran burn. <3
Bieber's worst single for sure.

new song is out there. kinda generic, imo.

utter crap
it's getting spammed premiered hourly on iheartmedia's top 40 stations too. the '''''pop''''' end of the industry really thinks all you need to do to get a hit these days is be white and sing complete nonsense over any old trap beat, huh

the new one with kehlani is way better, fortunately.

did anyone listen to the new album?it's more close to journals, but it's sounding very samey overall.
― Nourry, Saturday, 15 February 2020 14:31 (six years ago)
I had stopped listening to him after “Yummy”, but “Peaches” sounds good at least. he’s bought all the r&b, rap and even afropop (Burna Boy on a so-so track) collabs money can buy, but I’m not sure I’m keen to indulge him and his “MLK Interlude”s. it’s hard to keep up with the guy (if you would want to). I see that apart from a Deluxe version of the album he has now also dropped a new EP which has him channeling Wizkid of all people on the title track:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjMts2i93-0Justin Bieber ft. i can't stand "peaches"
― voodoo chili, Monday, 5 April 2021 22:26 (five years ago)
i have more patience for Bieber than I probably should but even I think there needs to be legislation against him starting a song "BIG UP TO MY BRUDDA"
― G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Monday, 5 April 2021 22:50 (five years ago)
i dislike "peaches" also, no idea how it's become his most effortless hit since purpose
― dyl, Monday, 5 April 2021 23:14 (five years ago)
well it's easily the best single he's released since purpose... the other singles off this album are just totally dire, yummy was a pretty big hit despite being deathly corny, the quavo one i can barely remember how it goes. "peaches" is an up tempo summer song with a memorable chorus, i'm surprised it took them this long to find a song even this good
― J0rdan S., Monday, 5 April 2021 23:27 (five years ago)
"yummy" and the quavo song were from the last album not this one, which kinda underscores how indistinctive his music has been and still is in these past couple years
