I think Human Instinct had a singing drummer for at least part of their career.

I started singing and playing drums at the same time live a couple years ago, after thinking I'd never be capable of it. It takes a fair amount of coordination, but so does drumming to begin with, and obviously you can lose a little quality or attention to detail in both endeavors by doing them simultaneously, but it surprised me how quickly it started to feel relatively natural and easy.

La Lechuza (La Lechera), Tuesday, 3 November 2015 17:05 (ten years ago)

Oh except I've never played/sung in front of ppl but I don't think that would make much of a difference in the ease of it.

Buddy Miles though I've read certain people he was doing it with weren't overly pleased. Apparently Band of Gypsies had to be heavily edited because of it, or so I read.

Just came to post Jigsaw as well, but maybe I dimly remember seeing it here 4 months ago.

I don't suppose anyone remembers Blair Mailer, but their track on the Yo Yo a Go Go compilation from '96 starts with a voice saying:

"Who was the band with the drummer that sang just one song?"
"...it was us."

Also, if timbale drummers are considered, its bewildering that Sheila E hasn't been mentioned in 12 years.

My favorite singing drummer, non-Levon Helm division, is Katherina Bornefeld of Dutch art-punk institution The Ex.

JRN, Monday, 2 May 2016 02:56 (ten years ago)

Saw this band, Sirsy, a few months ago. They're from upstate NY. The singer plays drums -- standing up, which is tricky -- and she's good, too. She also triggers bass parts on a pad attached to the drumset.
