Sorry to hear that, kevin. We'll keep looking! You've managed to get a lot of other very good things, though.

For Bob (or whoever), the Mel and Tim single can be found on Gemm for a reasonable price from a number of different sellers:

The Freshmen single is on ebay right now for $17 plus shipping: http://cgi.ebay.com/FRESHMEN-uk-7-45-YOUVE-NEVER-HEARD-ANYTHING_W0QQitemZ4730639075QQcategoryZ306QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Would be great to get a good rip from both sides--our version of side A could use an upgrade (but many thanks to mike for digitizing and sharing it).

I have links for two tracks which include John Peel's intros and comments recorded from the same show...

Bloody The Golinski Brothers John Peel Show 1980/03/06

"People have been given the OBE for less, a lot less... and
I should be very happy to have that on a loop, so I could listen to
it again and again and again after the programme as I drive out to
the mountain vastnessess of Wallington" JP

Popatop Andy Capp John Peel Show 1980/03/06
"Popatop mamma, does that qualify as one of the best records ever? I
think it very possible does actually..." JP

a track from surprise package three"

i am now officially a proper sad case! ho hum!

anyways, this lot will be coming to a website near you soon.

Wow matthew, that's quite the early xmas haul! Thank you!

for the record, I think we've established that it's the other Ken Colyers Jazzmen, but that's coming by way of DomesticEmpire.

For Bob (or other vinyl collectors): I've located someone with the Anemic Boyfriends for sale--email me and I'll put you in touch.

patita (patita), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 22:53 (twenty years ago)

I haven't kept up.. I tried to figure out what I hadn't downloaded, and got lost when the list got really big.. But if anyone has the complete set (or complete up to a recent point) on slsk and will let me grab the whole lot - I'll do a torrent for everyone else...

D.I.Y. U.N.K.L.E. (dave225.3), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

can somebody repost matthew's link? it's already unavailable. with that stuff, i have everything that's been posted here. that knocks off a huge slice of what's missing, thank you matthew.

WAAH!

(stops crying, looks around to see if anyone's paying attention. Resumes)

WAAH!

Go on, someone repost that last big zip file.

And, big regards to the anon_andrews.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 11:16 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure that zip was ever available. The url says 'blocked' and the message on the page says 'The file has most likely exceeded its allotted bandwidth or has been removed by the original sender or a recipient.' What a tease!

TRG (TRG), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

i'm having trouble playing:
126_Dead_Leaves.m4a

i swear it's played before and that winamp would display the file info correctly but now neither works. can someone check please. ta. (DRM trouble?)

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 12:51 (twenty years ago)

The Jerry Byrd "memories of maria"/"invitation to love" 45 came in the post yesterday, but due to Thanksgiving travel, I won't be able to convert it until this weekend at earliest.

Put me down as yet another person who missed that last massive zip...

First 6 tracks will be along in a mo.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 16:48 (twenty years ago)

thanks patita for the repost!--

So here are the Last Missing A-Side Singles--ones no one's had a lead on, right?:

002 Al Ferrier - I'm Not Drinking More
008 Arthur K Adams - Wildwood flower
027 Dreamland Express - Groovy
034 Firemen - Old smokie
086 Sasha Caro - Grade 3 section 2
090 Sipho Bhengu - Tickey dopies
094 Spit Out - O from I

C. O'Leary (jparker), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

(i'm going to try mark's trick, watch...)

WAAAH!

can someone post an mp3 version of 126 Dead Leaves? cheers

WAAAH!

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

and if mark's link dies, here's a re-repost of matthew's zip:
http://s57.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1EPTHFUGGD5ZW298R3LCS6NK9R

Al Ferrier "I'm Not Drinking More" is available at UNC Chapel Hill's library, if anyone has access:
http://www.lib.unc.edu/mss/inv/htm/20245.html

This brings up the point that some of these singles may be in a university library and just not showing up in a search. Anyone with good research library contacts care to search a bit?

A bio of Arthur K Adams is here: http://www.blindpigrecords.com/artists/Adams,+Arthur.html
Anyone have connections with Blind Pig to try to talk to him and see if he has a copy?

Firemen, Dreamland Express, and Spit Out are not easily searched by either band or song. Whoever above said tha Sasha Caro was as obscure as Sipho Bhengu is right. The only extra lead is that his real name is Caro Minas, if anyone is good at locating people.

The wisdom of keeping some of these singles in a special box is now very clear.

patita (patita), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

also, i imagine Peel played all the songs on air at some point--i don't know how extensively his shows were recorded by people over the years, but that might be the only hope to find Sipho and Sasha, for example.

C. O'Leary (jparker), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

patita's repost of the full zip is already gone - I think it's just too big

patita (patita), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 20:32 (twenty years ago)

patita – thank you on behalf of all of us (for keeping it peel...)

I like the idea that some of these (almost forgotten) recordings are now getting the love they deserve again, beyond the lifetime of their greatest patron. If Peelie had foreseen all of this I'm sure he would have treasured that record box even more.

It is a pity that some of these artists may never see payment for our pleasure, but with rare & unavailable items I think that spreading the word is more important.
