that's the most difficult place to start I could imagine! good luck. I found the later part of the record to be stronger.

Actually, "Hemicyclic Anthelion" is one of the songs I always liked on this album. I love that sort of free-form piece. It was some of the later, folkier songs that I found a little off-putting. But listening now, I'm actually quite liking them too, for example "Motherly Bluster" (on side 3 of the LP)

best accomplishment of the obama administration so far!!! : )

Sadly, yes.

ilxor, Sunday, 5 April 2009 17:44 (seventeen years ago)

call all destroyer, Saturday, 11 April 2009 00:08 (seventeen years ago)

Ghost gave a really big boost to Whoopi Goldberg's career.

Aimless, Saturday, 11 April 2009 01:25 (seventeen years ago)

She uses the Oscar as a doorstop now.

Ghost could probably do a sweet psych jam on "Unchained Melody" that's for sure.

nine months pass...

The Terrastock 4 show -- indescribable. They had only about ten minutes and they made the most of it beyond description.

A recording of that set turned up on Dim3 and, holy cow, it was as amazing and WTF as I remembered it being.

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 27 January 2010 05:47 (sixteen years ago)

Hmm, need to look for that!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 27 January 2010 05:51 (sixteen years ago)

Picked up the CD/DVD Live in Nippon package today for ultra cheap at my local, can't wait to dig in!

that one is pretty cool, though it leans mainly towards the avant-improv side of things. they were so great in Denver last year! Kurihara is a guitar god. also, those batoh/espvall CDs shouldn't be slept on.

tylerw, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:17 (sixteen years ago)

I absolutely love Kurihara, his album with Boris is just gorgeous.

those batoh/espvall CDs shouldn't be slept on

wait how many are there? I like the one I have a lot (weirdest version of St. James Infirmary Blues ever?)

Limp Bizkit Virtual Raping Teddy Bear (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:25 (sixteen years ago)

er I mean Death Letter

Limp Bizkit Virtual Raping Teddy Bear (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:25 (sixteen years ago)

there's that one, and then another one that came out last year ... Overloaded Ark. Might be better than the first one!

tylerw, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:26 (sixteen years ago)

(and yeah that Death Letter was weeeeeird!)

tylerw, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:26 (sixteen years ago)

I feel like Kurihara is like the secret hero of the last decade in music. Everything he touched turned to gold!

tylerw, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:27 (sixteen years ago)

his solo album is great. last track is like whoa

original bgm, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:38 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, that is worth picking up -- think it was released on Damon & Naomi's label? there's a bunch of stuff of his i haven't heard, judging from this page: http://www.wfmu.org/~rlim/kuri/k_intro.html
someone made me a mix of his career up to 2004 or so though.

tylerw, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:39 (sixteen years ago)

Damn, what an impressive discography! And it seems to mostly stop shortly after 2000.

he's always been a bit of an anti-climb Max (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:43 (sixteen years ago)

he has certainly played in a lot of bands!

tylerw, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:45 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, that is worth picking up -- think it was released on Damon & Naomi's label?

yep. that's the one. sunset notes.

bookmarked that wfmu page. whoa!

original bgm, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:49 (sixteen years ago)

I have an extra copy of Sunset Notes, will be throwing it up on eBay for a few bucks shortly... anyone want it here instead, for relatively cheap?

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:52 (sixteen years ago)

yup

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:57 (sixteen years ago)

All yours once I can dig it out of my moving boxes...

three months pass...

picked up used copy of the 1st Batoh/Espvall LP on drag city tonight .. so good

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 15 August 2010 06:05 (fifteen years ago)

also, aren't we due for a new Ghost ... I am a SELFISH bastard ... need new Ghost

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 15 August 2010 06:07 (fifteen years ago)

I have Lama Rabi Rabi and Snuffbox Immanence....I feel bad about getting out of touch with them.

i like barbecue ribs (u s steel), Sunday, 15 August 2010 09:30 (fifteen years ago)

Stormy do you have the 2nd one, Overloaded Ark? even better imo.

sleeve, Sunday, 15 August 2010 19:28 (fifteen years ago)

I saw Boris play with Kurihara on guitar and it was pretty incredible, so I got Hypnotic Underworld. I was bored to tears. I'd like to like these guys. What am I supposed to like about these guys?

zorn_bond.mp3, Sunday, 15 August 2010 19:56 (fifteen years ago)

dunno, if hypnotic underworld bored you to tears, then maybe Ghost isn't for you. that's probably the best entry point to the band ...

tylerw, Sunday, 15 August 2010 20:00 (fifteen years ago)

Don't expect Ghost to be like Boris. You could try Snuffbox Immanence too. Do u like Flower Travelin' Band?

Henry's Hepcat (admrl), Sunday, 15 August 2010 21:47 (fifteen years ago)

half of hypnotic underworld is amazing; other half meanders.

yeah, they're nothing like boris.

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 15 August 2010 21:48 (fifteen years ago)

I have and dig Satori, but I get more of a 13th Floor Elevators vibe from FTB than Ghost. What is Snuffbox Immanence?

zorn_bond.mp3, Sunday, 15 August 2010 22:58 (fifteen years ago)

sleeve, I do not have 'Overloaded Ark' yet ... it is totally on my list!!

Zorn guy .. um, Flower Travelling Band and Ghost are entirely different bands ... what are you , racist?

anyway, you're a very lame troll but yeah 'Snuffbox Immanence' is a Ghost LP. and it fucking rules

oh and for the record, Ghost >>>>>>>>> Boris

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 15 August 2010 23:04 (fifteen years ago)

Whooooooooa friend, somebody asked me if I liked FTB and I answered the question. Troll yourself.

zorn_bond.mp3, Sunday, 15 August 2010 23:06 (fifteen years ago)

ehhhhh , whatever .... Boris is such a joke of a band, really ...

I love my Leningrad Blues Machine, A.N.P., Fushitsusha, Boredoms, White Heaven, and Hanadensha LPs, thank you very much. ... but i have no idea how this mid-tier band "Boris" got levitated to such god-like status in recent years, I mean they are good but by no means worthy of the hype

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 15 August 2010 23:09 (fifteen years ago)

and you are right, I did miss the part where adamrl asked you about FTB, so I apologize about that (altho i still think that is weird.. the two bands sound totally different...)

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 15 August 2010 23:12 (fifteen years ago)

and FTB don't sound like the elevators!

not everything is a campfire (ian), Sunday, 15 August 2010 23:14 (fifteen years ago)

Idk I'm not accusing them of ripping them off or anything, I just hear a lot of Satori in Easter Everywhere and vice versa.

zorn_bond.mp3, Sunday, 15 August 2010 23:56 (fifteen years ago)

And I'm not gonna defend Boris. You like em or you don't. I do, like, a bunch.

All that fun stuff having been said, I am getting Snuffbox Immanence as we speak.

zorn_bond.mp3, Sunday, 15 August 2010 23:57 (fifteen years ago)

waht is happening on this thread

P oco, Sunday, 15 August 2010 23:59 (fifteen years ago)

lol. i figured boris to have a big ilm fanbase (i'm ambivalent about boris, mostly).

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 16 August 2010 00:00 (fifteen years ago)

I have apparently stirred the pot? xp

zorn_bond.mp3, Monday, 16 August 2010 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

And Daniel I don't know that I represent ILM by any means, but if I recall correctly their polls here have been popular affairs.

zorn_bond.mp3, Monday, 16 August 2010 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

boris are hit or miss but when they hit they hit hard

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cjUITjfwcg

ghost are a little more consistent but yeah they're not like boris much

puerile aretha franklin jokes (crüt), Monday, 16 August 2010 00:02 (fifteen years ago)

i am confident that you represent ilm.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 16 August 2010 00:02 (fifteen years ago)

both are great fuck the haters
