hell yeah. hairless toys didn't hit me at first but now i think it's amazing... i listened again keeping a couple comments in mind i'd read on the EOY 2015 thread, something about how 'evil eyes' switches gears into a boogie song four mins in. her previous album, which i love, even sounded a bit drab afterward in comparison.

new track is nice, hadn't seen the tweets so I wasn't expecting something new already.

This song is like a series of forks in the road, and she took the right one every time.

Yeah, this is great! Even though it's the sort of thing my pop-structured mind tends to find unpleasant, it works when Róisín does it.

just came here to post about the new album. nothing for 8 years then 2 albums inside 1 year. weird huh? last album is amazing, easily her best IMO.

Hairless Toys was impressive but I still love Overpowered more than anything she's done, though.

tbh I'm not into very much of this, at least at this early stage, but good on her

It seems to lose a bit of momentum towards the second half. But the first four tracks or so have some incredible moments.

I love that the bass is used so sparsely (both here and in Hairless Toys) but when it's there, it's fucking there. No messing around.

It's not all that though. I get the impression that they're the kind of tracks which will reveal their underlying structure and power over time.

Nervous Sleep is pretty extraordinary (this may be the one that Alfred is thinking of most with his "mumbling over slow tracks" description)

Enjoying this a lot. It was less instant than Hairless Toys but I'm enjoying it more as a whole after a few plays. Some of it reminds me of a more mellow version of Ruby Blue.

that's correct Alfred. The accents indicate an elongated vowel sound

whoa take her up to monto is really great. sort of like if all the weird sui generis organically sprouting ideas of hairless toys were pushed even further and the carefulness abandoned

it's all much more labyrinthine than the way most of the tracks on Hairless Toys would slowly unfold. i don't enjoy it quite as much but it's definitely an incredible 2 hours or so that have come from those sessions

This album just gets better and better. Lip Service is my current favourite. I keep getting it stuck in my head.

I seriously regret not seeing her in Chicago in November. I didn't take to Take Her Up to Monto as much as Hairless Toys, but I think I need to spend more time with it.

Love the moment on "Uninvited guests" where the devil may care slacker vibe turns into a gorgeous wide screen bridge. Roisin excels at these emotional shifts in songs, sections that change your perception of the narrative
