For some reason, I'm a little saddened by this -- it takes me by surprise, and I'm not even sure why. For anyone who didn't write there during a period where something like this seemed obv ridiculous, it probably makes all the sense in the world.

actually, it seems hard to imagine much would change beyond the things that always change w acquisitions (new upper mgmt, some staff cutting, likely subtle changes in branding over a long period of time). As a writer, I'd be worried that they'd want pitches that would guarantee clicks, as opposed to, say, the new DJ Spinn EP, but I guess we'll see...

Does that mean they might actually review a Taylor Swift album instead of vaguely referencing it's existence in other reviews?

I liked early pitchfork and Ryan's reviews because back then they didn't disguise their awfulness. Now it's so disguised that idiots actually think pitchfork is good

i feel like that's not really thread-worthy. it's the allmusic sliding-scale thing. "if you are interested enough in the idea of this record to read a review of this record, it's probably around a seven for you."

yeah, I feel like with p4k anything in the 6-7 range means "this is okay if you're already into stuff like this." Very few casual listeners are going to check out an album based on its 6.6 rating.

I haven't heard the album itself, but if it's anything like the TV performance I saw this weekend, my vote would go to "a tedious waste of everyone involved's time."
