Should have called it Shrewd Moves

impossible raver (Re-Make/Re-Model), Monday, 12 October 2015 21:15 (ten years ago)

Lyrics to this are truly ridic.

Tim F, Tuesday, 13 October 2015 21:23 (ten years ago)

the 1975 is a superlatively dope name for a band that sounds like 80's music imo

james brooks, Wednesday, 14 October 2015 00:26 (ten years ago)

I think it's very important this band has a "The" in their name.

rap is dad (it's a boy!), Wednesday, 14 October 2015 15:46 (ten years ago)

o hey they can do mbv-inflected balearic vibez q well, reminds me of Strategy a bit (were u a fan? surely)

twunty fifteen (imago), Thursday, 15 October 2015 08:23 (ten years ago)

haha shit, they're not only still around but they had an album out this year

twunty fifteen (imago), Thursday, 15 October 2015 08:27 (ten years ago)

Of Strategy I only know (but love) 'Future Rock'. I vaguely recall they went quite minimal ambient after that?

The reason I asked re "Haunt // Bed" is that, for me at least (and maybe others in this thread) that kind of thing was a big part of the initial attraction of this band, rather than they looked like they might become "pop royalty" or whatever. And there's a lot of material on their EPs in this general vein - "Facedown", "Intro/Set 3", "Undo", "Anobrain", "Fallingforyou". They even did this:

This sounds alot like the Sound and Vision version of Bowie's "Fame", doesn't it?

cpl593H, Tuesday, 20 October 2015 03:01 (ten years ago)

You mean Fame 90?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lp-qDhR2shQ

Then yes, yes it does.

MarkoP, Tuesday, 20 October 2015 04:10 (ten years ago)

Yeah, that's the one. I couldn't remember the year.

cpl593H, Tuesday, 20 October 2015 09:39 (ten years ago)

There's a lot of Notorious/Big Thing-era Duran Duran in this too.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Tuesday, 20 October 2015 15:20 (ten years ago)

What an amazing piece of filmmaking

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 3 November 2015 17:35 (ten years ago)

maybe it's the shirtless flailing but this song has started to make me think of an alternate-universe bubblegum Jane's Addiction

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Tuesday, 3 November 2015 17:35 (ten years ago)

Is there an alternate universe where this Sideshow Bob-fronted atrocity doesn't exist? I'd be down on my knees praying for one, if this wasn't enough proof that there is no God.

Turrican, Tuesday, 3 November 2015 18:18 (ten years ago)

You've got to let it go, Turrican. It's time.

I know when that Ott line zings (Spottie), Tuesday, 3 November 2015 18:21 (ten years ago)

i'm of course watching live videos of the new songs. "change of heart" sounds like their "say hello wave goodbye." "she's american" is obv "settle down" part 2 but i don't mind that at all

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Tuesday, 10 November 2015 17:06 (ten years ago)

and "the sound" is like their aesthetic applied to disco, and is the most exciting of the three

uberweiss, Tuesday, 10 November 2015 17:57 (ten years ago)

YES.

Though LOL at "you used to have a race straight out a magazine" and "I never found love in the city".

Tim F, Tuesday, 10 November 2015 21:11 (ten years ago)

They... Can't seriously propose to pass "She's American" off as a new song can they?

Tim F, Tuesday, 10 November 2015 21:22 (ten years ago)

lol it's so "settle down"

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Tuesday, 10 November 2015 21:46 (ten years ago)
