on their last album

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 4 April 2009 17:22 (seventeen years ago)

Okay, fine, I'll take that as a hint to go google what their last album was. You could have given a name or something. Gah.

emil.y, Saturday, 4 April 2009 17:26 (seventeen years ago)

Anyone else excited for the tour???

ilxor, Saturday, 4 April 2009 17:45 (seventeen years ago)

they are so awesome live. saw them in providence at terrastock 6 and theirs was the only show i caught besides lightning bolt, bardo pond, and jack rose that lit the place that bright

kamerad, Saturday, 4 April 2009 18:40 (seventeen years ago)

batoh swore on stage they'd never return until bush was no longer our president. well fuck yeah, here we go

kamerad, Saturday, 4 April 2009 18:41 (seventeen years ago)

Anyone else excited for the tour???

Very. Nice follow-on news from seeing Acid Mothers Temple/Kinski last night.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 4 April 2009 18:46 (seventeen years ago)

awesome news

sleeve, Saturday, 4 April 2009 18:58 (seventeen years ago)

denver show is going to be tiiiiiight. though i will probably be the only one there.

tylerw, Saturday, 4 April 2009 20:11 (seventeen years ago)

is there a new album coming out? or are they just touring for the heck of it.

tylerw, Saturday, 4 April 2009 20:12 (seventeen years ago)

Nothing immediately listed on their website about a new album, so looks like the latter option:

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 4 April 2009 20:25 (seventeen years ago)

Just got the first (self-titled) album on PSF secondhand the other day and am listening to it right now, coincidently enough. Sounds good.

krakow, Saturday, 4 April 2009 20:44 (seventeen years ago)

OK, second time round for this self-titled album and it rules. Much better than I was expecting (I love 'Hypnotic Underworld' but was afraid that much of their other stuff would be too hippyish for my tastes).

krakow, Saturday, 4 April 2009 21:48 (seventeen years ago)

Nope, it's all pretty great!

ilxor, Sunday, 5 April 2009 01:18 (seventeen years ago)

Aye, I reckon I'll be tracking down the rest now...

I know Monorail has had a s/h copy of Batoh's Darg City solo compilation for a while, so if that's still there on Monday, it's mine.

krakow, Sunday, 5 April 2009 08:09 (seventeen years ago)

best accomplishment of the obama administration so far!!! : )

d20 riot tard (M@tt He1ges0n), Sunday, 5 April 2009 09:19 (seventeen years ago)

After repeatedly reading lots of praise for these guys (and given the fact that, on paper, they're right up my alley) I succumbed and bought In Stormy Nights on vinyl last year. But it failed to move me. Maybe I should give it another chance, but I'm barely motivated right now to walk across the room and put it on.

Is this album generally considered to be poor? Should I perhaps give them another go, with a different LP?

Duke, Sunday, 5 April 2009 10:22 (seventeen years ago)

Right, In Stormy Nights is on the deck. "Hemicyclic Anthelion" covers all of side one, which is always a good sign....

Duke, Sunday, 5 April 2009 10:26 (seventeen years ago)

that's the most difficult place to start I could imagine! good luck. I found the later part of the record to be stronger.

sleeve, Sunday, 5 April 2009 10:33 (seventeen years ago)

Actually, "Hemicyclic Anthelion" is one of the songs I always liked on this album. I love that sort of free-form piece. It was some of the later, folkier songs that I found a little off-putting. But listening now, I'm actually quite liking them too, for example "Motherly Bluster" (on side 3 of the LP)

Duke, Sunday, 5 April 2009 11:05 (seventeen years ago)

best accomplishment of the obama administration so far!!! : )

Sadly, yes.

ilxor, Sunday, 5 April 2009 17:44 (seventeen years ago)

?!? Had no idea they were touring!! super-excited, may have to get a babysitter for this one

call all destroyer, Saturday, 11 April 2009 00:08 (seventeen years ago)

Ghost gave a really big boost to Whoopi Goldberg's career.

Aimless, Saturday, 11 April 2009 01:25 (seventeen years ago)

She uses the Oscar as a doorstop now.

I'm crossing over into enterprise (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 11 April 2009 02:06 (seventeen years ago)

Ghost could probably do a sweet psych jam on "Unchained Melody" that's for sure.

tylerw, Saturday, 11 April 2009 03:28 (seventeen years ago)

nine months pass...

The Terrastock 4 show -- indescribable. They had only about ten minutes and they made the most of it beyond description.

― Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, April 13, 2006 9:43 AM (3 years ago)

A recording of that set turned up on Dim3 and, holy cow, it was as amazing and WTF as I remembered it being.

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 27 January 2010 05:47 (sixteen years ago)

Hmm, need to look for that!

Picked up the CD/DVD Live in Nippon package today for ultra cheap at my local, can't wait to dig in!

that one is pretty cool, though it leans mainly towards the avant-improv side of things. they were so great in Denver last year! Kurihara is a guitar god. also, those batoh/espvall CDs shouldn't be slept on.

tylerw, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:17 (sixteen years ago)

I absolutely love Kurihara, his album with Boris is just gorgeous.

those batoh/espvall CDs shouldn't be slept on

wait how many are there? I like the one I have a lot (weirdest version of St. James Infirmary Blues ever?)

Limp Bizkit Virtual Raping Teddy Bear (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:25 (sixteen years ago)

er I mean Death Letter

Limp Bizkit Virtual Raping Teddy Bear (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:25 (sixteen years ago)

there's that one, and then another one that came out last year ... Overloaded Ark. Might be better than the first one!

tylerw, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:26 (sixteen years ago)

(and yeah that Death Letter was weeeeeird!)

tylerw, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:26 (sixteen years ago)

I feel like Kurihara is like the secret hero of the last decade in music. Everything he touched turned to gold!

tylerw, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:27 (sixteen years ago)

his solo album is great. last track is like whoa

original bgm, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:38 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, that is worth picking up -- think it was released on Damon & Naomi's label? there's a bunch of stuff of his i haven't heard, judging from this page: http://www.wfmu.org/~rlim/kuri/k_intro.html
someone made me a mix of his career up to 2004 or so though.

tylerw, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:39 (sixteen years ago)

Damn, what an impressive discography! And it seems to mostly stop shortly after 2000.

he's always been a bit of an anti-climb Max (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:43 (sixteen years ago)

he has certainly played in a lot of bands!

tylerw, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:45 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, that is worth picking up -- think it was released on Damon & Naomi's label?

yep. that's the one. sunset notes.

bookmarked that wfmu page. whoa!

original bgm, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:49 (sixteen years ago)

I have an extra copy of Sunset Notes, will be throwing it up on eBay for a few bucks shortly... anyone want it here instead, for relatively cheap?

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:52 (sixteen years ago)

yup

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:57 (sixteen years ago)

All yours once I can dig it out of my moving boxes...

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 15 August 2010 06:05 (fifteen years ago)

also, aren't we due for a new Ghost ... I am a SELFISH bastard ... need new Ghost

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 15 August 2010 06:07 (fifteen years ago)

I have Lama Rabi Rabi and Snuffbox Immanence....I feel bad about getting out of touch with them.

i like barbecue ribs (u s steel), Sunday, 15 August 2010 09:30 (fifteen years ago)

Stormy do you have the 2nd one, Overloaded Ark? even better imo.

sleeve, Sunday, 15 August 2010 19:28 (fifteen years ago)

I saw Boris play with Kurihara on guitar and it was pretty incredible, so I got Hypnotic Underworld. I was bored to tears. I'd like to like these guys. What am I supposed to like about these guys?

zorn_bond.mp3, Sunday, 15 August 2010 19:56 (fifteen years ago)

dunno, if hypnotic underworld bored you to tears, then maybe Ghost isn't for you. that's probably the best entry point to the band ...
