Dance is expected to be the lead single from the artist’s upcoming third solo studio album RedemptionHeart as well as the kick off track from Richard’s proclaimed ‘red era’. RedemptionHeart will be released early next year through her own label, Our Dawn. It will mark the third and final album in a trilogy centered around love, loss and redemption as a progressing narrative. Said trilogy began with the release of 2013’s Goldenheart.
“Dance” will be released on digital retailers and streaming platforms globally on Monday, September 28th. Check out a snippet below.

RedemptionHeart is one hell of a clunky title. W

Matt DC, Monday, 28 September 2015 15:55 (ten years ago)

she's calling it the red era now i think, which is a good idea

It was cool that she dropped this during last night's lunar eclipse DYS

Jeff W, Monday, 28 September 2015 19:13 (ten years ago)

haha yeah i wonder if it just occurred to her that it'd be a good time to drop something from the project and ran with it. i went straight to itunes, can't think of when i've ever bought a new single without hearing it first but she has my confidence.

some dude, Monday, 28 September 2015 19:36 (ten years ago)

Ester Dean had a hand in this apparently

three weeks pass...

okay I slept hard on "Dance", was all "I'm catching up on a lot of things, let me come back to this"

I just came back to this

holy shit

I Am Curious (Dolezal) (DJP), Thursday, 29 October 2015 16:21 (ten years ago)

"hollywould" is really great...love the way, at this stage, she has the confidence to release a straightforward songcraft-focused track like that

lex pretend, Monday, 16 November 2015 18:23 (ten years ago)

also "james dean" and "dance" have been such slow burners - nice, impressive etc on first listen, but only months later you realise how they've sunk themselves into you

she has been very good at avoiding some of the pitfalls that could have loomed post-blackheart

My mixed take from 2015--

I saw Dawn before a smallish 100 or so person crowd at the Howard Theatre. Dawn was full of energy, dancing and projecting her voice and chatting in between songs about Fat Tuesday (she is from New Orleans) her album and how she makes each gig different (NY had dancers). Some younger NY singer Alan Michael was down in DC & jumped onstage to duet with her on "86" and "Physical." One of her 3 keyboardists got jazzy at times, while the drummer was going for a Big eaasyish polyrhythmic funky thing. At times her model poses and tv reality show belting was a tad too much, and some rough sound at the beginning hurt a few cuts. She did most of the new album in her 1 hr & 15 minute set

The Reverend, Thursday, 28 January 2016 20:33 (ten years ago)

the drop at 1.30 on that new song is DOOOOOOOPE
i will be at her march show in NYC if she don't cancel.

ulysses, Thursday, 28 January 2016 21:45 (ten years ago)

basically dawn richard referencing "the glamorous life" is what i've been missing

ulysses, Thursday, 28 January 2016 21:46 (ten years ago)

Not Above That actually sounds like a Dawn Richard and Maya Vik collabo should sound. I definitely like this.

Dawn + Machinedrum is a very nice thing. does Redemption have a release date yet?

She's going from playing the big and higher profile Howard Theatre in Washington DC early last year to the tiny DC-9 rock club this March.

curmudgeon, Friday, 29 January 2016 14:45 (ten years ago)

the run from "gleaux" to "86" on goldenheart is my favorite shit ever. glad i finally "got" this record

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Saturday, 30 January 2016 22:18 (ten years ago)

Hey, new interview

freelancer for Washington Post likes her gig in tiny 2nd floor club

https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/music/dawn-richard-continues-the-part-at-the-fringes-of-electronic-randb-at-dc9/2016/03/15/2627c4c8-eab2-11e5-b0fd-073d5930a7b7_story.html

Both Richard and the audience fed off each other’s energy as the singer hopped through her discography, seemingly touched by the audience’s ecstatic reaction to every song, no matter how obscure. Focusing on the dancier side of her catalogue, Richard was a siren over propulsive grooves, synthesized melodies and waves of bass. She also dazzled with her dancing, balancing pneumatic contortions with sensuality.

curmudgeon, Wednesday, 16 March 2016 14:50 (ten years ago)

I went to that; loved it. I had heard said about past shows that her performances had been kinda aimless or lackadaisical or something, but I didn't get that at all. She seemed totally committed (even though the 200-person club wasn't close to sold out) and sounded great. Crowd was great, too.

dc, Wednesday, 16 March 2016 15:09 (ten years ago)

That room would be wall to wall people with 200 jammed into it. Probably wasn't sold out as that club usually just has obscure rock bands

curmudgeon, Wednesday, 16 March 2016 16:04 (ten years ago)

I wish she would come to Seattle. The only time she was supposed to (circa Goldenheart), it got canceled.

Hey (Extended Mix), Thursday, 17 March 2016 11:20 (ten years ago)

as far as I can tell, this et aliae/Dawn track was never posted here, and it's quite pleasant.
