What happened to "electronica day"? Personally, I didn't think splitting the schedule down the middle based on genre was a good idea. I guess, though, they just punted one of the genres altogether for this year.

just want to say that Italians Do It Better show with Glass Candy/Chromatics/Farah/DJ Mike Simonetti was amazing.

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 29 May 2008 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

wanted to go to that but couldn't get in. the crowd outside was kinda traumatizing.

mizzell, Thursday, 29 May 2008 18:26 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, it was totally sold out. the line was ridic. probably one of the best shows i've been to in a long long time. kinda wanted to go to the after party since it was 2 blocks from my house, but i didn't want to be the only guy not on coke there.

i think i'm playing records at waziema for steve shasta's birthday this friday

jaxon, Thursday, 5 June 2008 06:26 (eighteen years ago)

jaxon, yeah i've been feeling alot of his mixes. His new LP drops soon and I've heard some tracks off it, very inspired by Turkish psych. It's all those tours that he's been doing with Andy Votel and co.

oscar, Thursday, 5 June 2008 07:22 (eighteen years ago)

Skream & Benga next Weds..............

Recommend me somefin to do this Friday, thinking about Alan Braxe and Lifelike maybe?

The Macallan 18 Year, Wednesday, 11 June 2008 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

>>favorite new SF band = Jonas Reinhart

basically just a dubbier version of Neu!, but tough and extremely danceable & they just nail the sound, they gave a great show at the Fernwood at the Cluster afterparty

The Macallan 18 Year, Thursday, 19 June 2008 17:45 (eighteen years ago)

chapel of the chimes in oakland/piedmont on Saturday. big creamatorium where musicians spread out over the whole space, play music, and people gather around them. way less hippie than it sounds.

Dominique, Thursday, 19 June 2008 17:49 (eighteen years ago)

oh and I'll be there playing steve reich's 'drumming' w/william winant's percussion group

Dominique, Thursday, 19 June 2008 17:49 (eighteen years ago)

I'm pretty scared at how crowded that's going to be this year. it's doubled in attendence every single year the last three years when it's on a weekday, and this time around... saturday

since it's in a columbarium it usually stayed respectful & quiet (as you do when you're surrounded by framed urns containing names & dates of the deceased within), people would whisper and the most amazing aspect was finding the nodes in the hallways where you could overhear about two or three seperate acts playing in their different corners, echoing off the marble & glass, but it sort of reached a tipping point last year when there were so many people that everyone just flat out began talking and now that's all you can hear

but yeah one of the most interesting bay area new music events for the last 10+ years running, it's just better when people aren't accidentally being pushed over into the gardens

Milton Parker, Thursday, 19 June 2008 18:18 (eighteen years ago)

ha ha ARGH the Garden's been written up not just by East Bay Express but the Contra-Costa Times

I'm bringing gatorade, a raincoat and a knife

blasthaus presents
BRAINFEEDER FESTIVAL
103 Harriet Street
9:00pm - after

Flying Lotus, Gaslamp Killer Kutmah, Ras_G, Kutmah, Hudson Mohawke, Kode 9, Martyn & Samiyam. Warp artist and hip-hop mystic, Flying Lotus (aka Steven Ellison), celebrates the launch of his fantastically shadowy debut album, Los Angeles, and his new digital label, Brainfeeder, with a host of vocalists and other guests, including Samiyam (who has a record due on London label Hyperdub), a grimey psychedelic, beat-strewn stew from Gaslamp Killer, some seriously dready dubstep from Kode9 featuring some Rasta-style meditative vocals from the deeply resonant Daddi Gee. Plus the experimental abstract hip-hop artist, Kutmah, Ghettotech & Dubstep superstars, Hudson Mohawke, Ras-G and Martyn.

ooh

open mind is closing it's doors for good at the end of the month. a bunch of times i've walked all the way over there and they're closed. i could tell the owner wasn't really into it anymore. i saw two guys walk in and say "hi, we're from the hair salon" and started talking about the molding or some other shit and i finally asked. i guess they're going online. good luck. the best part of that store is digging through all the relatively cheap, unknown shit and being able to listen on the turntables. i guess they're having a party w/bands (dunno who) on the 18th. RIP

jaxon, Friday, 10 October 2008 05:11 (seventeen years ago)

seriously good luck. the site's retarded

for you SF disco fans: at the SF Amoeba you can get The Glimmers' 2-disc debut album "The Glimmers Are Gee Gee Fazzi" for free while supplies last (about 20 copies, last count), that's right *FREE*, just go to their section and there should be copies filed with their other stuff. Also that Optimo "Sleepwalk" mix is now in stock, which I will now mention in the "Sleepwalk" thread. that is all...

I was just listening to his edit of Nick Chacona when I found this, this is going to be truth.

oscar, Friday, 31 October 2008 00:38 (seventeen years ago)

i'm def going. it's around corner from house. i know how influential and whatever he is, but the only mix of his i've ever heard is the resAdv mix and i was really underwhelmed.

also, GC always gets really techy. hope that doesnt' happen

jaxon, Friday, 31 October 2008 01:41 (seventeen years ago)

I dig his stuff at this site... http://www.sixmillionsteps.com/mixes_main.htm#gregwilson

I will definitely be there. He really is quite the legend. And the idea of hand-spliced edits playing on a reel-to-reel makes me sooooo happy. Farr from your SF tech-house fare.

psychgawsple, Friday, 31 October 2008 01:52 (seventeen years ago)
