also v surprised that this doesn't visibly seem to consist of any of thr great between-lps songs that came up once in a while. so hyped

wasn't thrilled by this song, seems to lack some of the sharper song writing from the last album

She vocal sounds a bit like Grimes on the first half or so of the track

Totally, don't know if that's what she's going for or if it is more of a callback to her earlier stuff

whole record is home-recorded straight to tape just by ramona i think! so i hope so

I wonder how much Cole had to do with the record.

liquid cool comes out tomorrow...first listening now and I'm in love with her all over again. it's a much different record than One Second...more homemade, more emotional

Not as many as One Second

It sounds a lot more full-bodied than anything before, thd production is very thick and humid. Not a great deal of hooks and her voice feels somewhat obscured but I still enjoyed it.

hmm, new one not hitting the sweet spot very often. feels a little underworked at times; the songs sometimes seem to go on forever with minimal variation. feels like a holding motion, honestly.

Nothing But Scenery is awesome and deep

yeah so heavy & unusual; bc it starts so unadorned it was v surprising to play the record & hear it, but it has shades of the weird repurposing mission nj records have generally, i think. i remember reading some interview w her forever ago where she talks abt synthetic sounds from the eighties having a second act, like there having been a literally creative phase in which instruments were invented but their use being sort of truncated by the limits of the era in which they were populated, & it's so hazy & kind of eerie to hear her duet in sync w/ chiming synth noise

agree, it's a very strange *sounding* album but can't put my finger on exactly how

i don't like the vocals

Too much echo and reverb. There seems to be some good singing underneath all of tgat, but it's hard to tell.

Nite Funk is out today. Dam's jams are nice and Ramona plays a subdued role vocally for the most part.

i am just being difficult but i am enjoying this record so much !, + then halfway thru listening i remember the internet's ambivalence + kick a hole in the speaker, snap the arm from the turntable, take a bite out of the record + beat my chest wailing like harvey keitel. i saw her play w julia holter a few nights ago. it is such a good record, i think, + super interesting to hear her talk abt it existing as a kind fundamental full-circle nj record, like sharing so much dna w the first lp. the slow jams really grow on me too.

i bought the lp + read the v spare words for the first song i'd been getting hung up on, i still can't tell why it's spookin me so, living in this quiet zone. so gd !

im gonna go see her on wed im excited, not planning on listening to the new alb before that tho

there was some local witchhouse opener i dug it tbh

Nite Jewel's last full length was pretty decent (particularly like "Running Out of Time"). Opening with "Nothing But Scenery" was an odd choice though as it feels like the album loses momentum instantly.

Do all the LA artists go to the same beach up the coast to shoot their videos? I feel like I just saw one like this starring weyes blood.
