It's obvious she really wants to break through on charts and airplay judging by the interviews saying this album will be less experimental, max martin collab etc. Although that clip doesn't really suggest that. I'm happy with her output this year anyway w the GOAT mixtape, so an album of bangers or whatever else wouldn't be too bad.

still so pissed that my friends fucked up my plans to see her open for Nicki BUT she will inevitably tour for this and I will def go see it even if it means going to another city

guess as she manifestly has all the strings to her bow you expect perfect execution, so hitting any target squarely whether it's max martin or the twigsy vibez here maybe isn't enough for someone with the rare potential to cut diagonally

communicating her essential unifying trademark on whatever it is she does is the elusive next step, the janet auteur thing i guess, and this seems (kinda perversely) a bit less idiosyncratic and so perhaps a tiny step back from the amethyst ep in that regard

personally aesthetically, sure this song is dull in comparison

prolly there's a couple chopped lines of thinkpiece white on the glass table about how wastedness sits on her as opposed to the predatory boys (illangelo on the credits fyi), is the "loss" of control as egotistic, does the favour presentation seem as manipulative, or is it servile, or equal, or equal for the sake of being equal

"player" came on in a car i was in tonight and it sounded like the biggest song in the world

I can't decide if I like "player" or if it's been clinically drawn up in a lab to be a precise approximation of things I like

i think it's good but yet another song that would be fine w/o chris brown and just gets him tacked on for radio play

there's a brown-less version upthread that's a lot better, hopefully the album will just have the solo version (as miguel thankfully did w/"coffee" on wildheart, eschewing that execrable tacked-on-wale version)

breezy verse/presence is trash but whenever i put on the solo i do kinda miss the extra release when they duet on the chorus

I think the CB-less "Player" is good, but it hasn't really flourished for me on repeated listens. My guess is I'll like it more when the whole album comes out which is what happened to me with 2on

yeah i only liked "feels like vegas" and "pretend" in a noncommittal way until i heard them on aquarius, i find "player" (solo) and "party favors" decent in a similar way but not rhapsodising over them yet

"2 on" was always a standalone banger tho
