i think if it was a scrapped new direction the list of people who worked on it would look a lot different. the most famous person who produced on that record aside from blackchild was t-minus.

i like this song too. i didn't plan on liking it, but i like it and think it is good.

Bieber's gonna get praise for undersinging for the kind of post-house track that would've been all the rage by Gorgon City two years ago.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 31 August 2015 01:54 (ten years ago)

i don't think y'all need to worry about bieber 'getting praised' (by ppl whose opinions are seen as more legitimate/valid than his fans') lol

dyl, Monday, 31 August 2015 06:01 (ten years ago)

What Gorgon City song does it sound like?( serious question)

mods = chickenshit idiots (D-40), Tuesday, 1 September 2015 18:44 (ten years ago)

I'm always surprised when I like anything of this nature, but I like "What Do You Mean?"

clemenza, Friday, 11 September 2015 21:55 (ten years ago)

I really like that Jack U track that he's on

tayto fan (Michael B), Friday, 11 September 2015 22:34 (ten years ago)

have come around hard on "what," one of the stronger singles of the year for sure

soyrev, Friday, 11 September 2015 22:54 (ten years ago)

I love this song.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 12 September 2015 01:14 (ten years ago)

Molanphy looks at the stats and the music and more of "What Do You Mean" plus "Where Are U Now"

curmudgeon, Wednesday, 16 September 2015 14:32 (ten years ago)

Re: the Slate article, it seems clear already that the song is reaching a wider audience than just his fanbase. His fanbase almost certainly turned out in huge numbers in the first week, but the song was still #1 in sales in its second week despite the typical decline, and though it fell in the second week on the Hot 100, it only fell to #3. For comparison, any given One Direction lead single debuts high in the top 3 in the first week due to their fans and then almost completely vacates the top 10 by the second week due to a huge sales decline and no radio support. On that note, "What Do You Mean" is currently top 15 on radio overall less than a month after it's release to any major radio format. So I think it's safe to say "What Do You Mean?" is appealing to more than just his fanbase.

Greer, Wednesday, 16 September 2015 14:52 (ten years ago)

Sounded really great on Fallon. Whoever the sound engineer is for that show should win some kind of award every year.

Spottie, Wednesday, 16 September 2015 15:36 (ten years ago)

Or go work for SNL.

MarkoP, Wednesday, 16 September 2015 15:52 (ten years ago)

love this song

I've learned to love "What Do You Mean." Nice to know incessant radio play can do this.

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Thursday, 22 October 2015 23:17 (ten years ago)

great song imo

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Thursday, 22 October 2015 23:18 (ten years ago)

loving nu beebz

Spottie, Thursday, 22 October 2015 23:27 (ten years ago)

i think i like "sorry" more than "what do you mean," love how measured the production is

J0rdan S., Sunday, 25 October 2015 16:57 (ten years ago)

sick

flopson, Sunday, 25 October 2015 18:42 (ten years ago)

can't wait to hear Sorry in a club, kudos to Skrillex for the production

Sharkie, Monday, 26 October 2015 13:49 (ten years ago)

a llove spat over a llama-keeper (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 27 October 2015 03:46 (ten years ago)

v disappointed in this era compared to believe, these songs are so wet

lex pretend, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 10:35 (ten years ago)

i dunno what 'wet' means in this context but i agree, they're wet as shit

some dude, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 10:54 (ten years ago)

Enjoying his current grooves, as is Em. Liked the TFI appearance, having hated the video for WDYM. This is fine too.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 27 October 2015 11:24 (ten years ago)

we've only heard 3 songs and 2/3 are far better than "boyfriend" at least so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

dyl, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 14:12 (ten years ago)

"wet" like dipped in formaldehyde and dopey?

a llove spat over a llama-keeper (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 27 October 2015 14:46 (ten years ago)

wet is that confusing an adjective? drippy and bland

"boyfriend" is probably his second best ever song

lex pretend, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 15:11 (ten years ago)

"what do u mean" is obviously his best single by a mile

k3vin k., Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:03 (ten years ago)

i mean i love "baby" as much as the next terius stan but i'm excited about the nu-biebera

k3vin k., Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:05 (ten years ago)

"what do u mean" is obviously his best single by a mile

This, and I like "Boyfriend."

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:13 (ten years ago)

i love dry music. it's my favorite kind.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:19 (ten years ago)

where are u now > sorry > what do u mean

carly bae jepsen (monotony), Wednesday, 28 October 2015 00:49 (ten years ago)

agreed

a llove spat over a llama-keeper (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 28 October 2015 01:47 (ten years ago)

where are you now is my least fav

and 'as long as you love me' is as good as any of the new songs

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Wednesday, 28 October 2015 07:06 (ten years ago)

sounds like Blood is on more than one track? wiki credits for the album have quite a diverse writer-ship... production isn't up there fully yet. interesting to see whether there is cohesiveness or not
