I mean I think the general calendar is still there but not my own list of upcoming events I'm attending.

I hope Last.fm survives - it is the only non-cynical, non-depressing and global and inspiring music site out there. As an American from Chicago, it's amazing to see music made in your backyard find its way all over the world. I love it as a means of international communication and expression.

The site has always looked nice, too.

one cool thing that's probably just a side effect of other changes: shoutboxes for albums

album shoutboxes have been around for as long as I've been on last.fm. ex. http://www.last.fm/music/Miles+Davis/Filles+De+Kilimanjaro (w/ shouts dating back to 2008). the main difference with beta is that shoutboxes (for users, songs, artists, and albums) are now limited to the 10 most recent shouts, and all shouts beyond that limit have been deleted.

I just tried to 'love' a track while it was playing and it disappeared from Recent Tracks altogether ha.

Yes, but since I feel annoyed every time I visit the site and have to struggle to find anything I want, might be leaving soon.

literally the only reason i still have a last.fm, albeit rarely checked, but the scrobbler barely works any more anyway and that's the only thing i want tracked

There is Libre.fm as well but doesn't seem to be under development and doesn't support events etc.

Good god. last.fm's "similar artists" feature was pretty much the deepest and most useful/accurate of its kind on the net. But with the new redesign, only 10 similar artists are displayed. Bah!

I also noticed that shoutboxes now only include the 10 most recent shouts (whereas you used to be able to browse through hundreds of shouts dating back nearly a decade)

yeah there are still things i'm not happy are gone (that you could see which or yr friends/ppl you follow/whatever listen to an artist and how much on the artist page was convenient) but for now i'm waiting and hoping they'll eventually be restored.

Or just revert to the obviously superior old version.

Heads up, you can now change your top artists/albums back to the old "list" format by clicking on your profile page's settings gears.

Met cool people on last.fm that I'm still friendly with 10-12 years later on other platforms. afaik, not a single one of us are still on lfm.

I've been using noscript for years which is a total pita, esp with all these gggdndtvbey.cloudfront addresses. I can deal with it though, but I wouldn't recommend it if you visit a lot of news/clickbait sites

I still scrobble everything and feel vaguely put out when I realise I've done something stats-invalidating (not turned scrobbler on, left work machine scrobbling to itself through a giant playlist overnight) but I don't really know why since I never look at the site any more: too horrible, too hard to find anything, last time I looked it seemed like there was basically 0 chance of finding interesting music or people there any more

libre.fm (lol..) though i could never get it to scrobble so i gave up

When I really think about it, it's been a slippery slope since last.fm and audioscrobbler merged. Audioscrobbler was at its most stable in the first couple of years!

Just to be fair, it should be noted that last.fm now seem to have got rid of the anti-adblock script.

Also just to be fair, they have reliably fast intensive stats features running for some time now which allow for worryingly deep and detailed dives in your exact listening behaviour over the years, if this is your thing (it's mine).

Click "more tracks" from your profile, the first page of results is a duplicate of the tracks you see on your profile. Great work, I should have to click again just to get page 2.

this is only true if you modified your profile to display 50 tracks. which is a thing you can do, but whatever.

I still use Last.fm and associated add-ons to get it to work on different sites, but the site is a skeleton of what it used to be. They have these superpowered algorithms that are not being used at all effectively. What is the sense in cataloguing listens when there isn't even a way to search artists or tracks within them? 'I guess I've listened to [X] about 50 times, so I'll skip to roughly the eighth page' is not a successful search facility. And as for cross-referencing anything with a friend...

I hope they get bought out by some wealthy fan who can restore the site to its former glory.

At least the app lets you see more than just your top ten all time plays or whatever it used to show. That was totally pointless.

last.fm used to have a fairly robust recommendation feature that recommended artists by genre which I loved.
spotify leaves me cold.
