Even after his quick rise and the success of Kaleidoscope Dream, Miguel says he still has "a bit of an underdog mentality" that he'll likely carry for the rest of his life. But he's carrying a lot less than he used to. He calls "What's Normal Anyway" an "emancipation" from the feelings it expresses; just by writing them and singing them out loud, he has not only offloaded their power over him, but has turned them into forces for good.

"Letting go of all of these parameters that I felt kept me from connecting, I've almost repurposed them and made them the reason why I do connect," Miguel says. "Because in that vulnerability, there's commonality, and people can relate with feeling out of place."

it actually makes me appreciate wildheart a lot more, idk why, i know i talked some shit about the rock touches on wildheart but i have been digging them more

whoever said upthread that their opinion changes all the time about wildheart was otm, right now though i am loving it and loving miguel so much

curious what people think of the production. it seems really "vibe-y" and almost lo fi in a lot of places. more like classic rock in some ways.

he's always had that balance i think. for all its lush qualities "adorn" also strikes me as distinctly homemade

he performed "Simplethings" on the Tonight Show recently...interesting if that's the single, considering it's so old and a bonus track, but then there's not many really strong single candidates on the album proper. it's maybe TOO similar to "Coffee," which got fairly little airplay, but i like both songs.

"Waves" should be a single, fits in pretty well with the Derulo-wave stuff all over the radio right now

Is coffee the only single? Besides waves I think leaves or beautiful exit could also work

huh "Waves" is one of the last songs i would've thought of as having any radio potential

It immediately jumped out at me as the catchiest thing on the album.

Waves is definitely my second favourite after Coffee.

hoping for an over the top, rammstein-mein-land-style video

Waves is fantastic, it just feels like a classic driving song and surely one of the most radio-friendly on the album? Then again I'm talking about an idealised version of the radio and not the demographic-ed to hell version that actually exists.

Waves was Radio 1's song of the day a couple of days ago so it's happening

This is finally out on vinyl. It was a nice surprise to find it in my local store this morning.

"goingtohell" is by far my favorite of the rockier songs on the album, "Waves" just never really gels for me, sounds very half-written

the Miguel feature on the Disclosure album seems below his usual standard but maybe i need to give it time

I feel the exact opposite way around, I always forget that goingtohell exists.

me too, I've been listening to this album for months and I still can't even remember what goingtohell sounds like

apart from leaves and maybe flesh I think the second half of this is much weaker than the first half, hollywood dreams in particular is one of my least favorites

kacey remix is the standout on the ep by a billion miles
