Somebody got a translation? pike is anything but humorless, he's fucking great.

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 13:38 (eighteen years ago)

translation? i don't speak french but i think it's just

"if sleep were to get back together"

"they would break up again!!"

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

from wikipedia:

In March 2008 OM recorded a 7" for Sub Pop records. The song "Gebel Barkal" is the first to feature new drummer Emil Amos.

!

i'm excited to hear it. i made note of the release on the om/pilgrimage thread, btw

Mark Clemente, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 15:58 (eighteen years ago)

ah i didnt see!

69, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

i find high on fire sorta tiresome. great live, but tiresome on record. i listened to "surrounded by thieves" yesterday as well as "jersualem" and "come my fanatics" and for some reason pike's tireless riffing just put me off after about 10 minutes.

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

maybe at the end of the day i'm just not very heavy metal?

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 17:08 (eighteen years ago)

Probably, cuz I don't find it tiresome at all-I like working out to it and getting high to it. Serves a lot of purposes.

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 17:48 (eighteen years ago)

high on fire is some get pumped up and punch dudes in the mouth and/or clean your bathroom music.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Thursday, 10 April 2008 03:35 (eighteen years ago)

Legendary stoner rock band Sleep split in 1998 after two hugely influential albums and members went on to form underground heroes High On Fire and Om. They reform for two performances at ATP as a world exclusive that will never be repeated.

They will perform the album Holy Mountain as well as selections from Dopesmoker and more.

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 31 October 2008 15:57 (seventeen years ago)

I finally got a copy of Sleep's Holy Mountain. I guess a record store in New Orleans bought up all of the cassette copies of the album. My buddy picked one up on tour and when i told him that I'd never heard it he gave it to me, said he was going back to NOLA before the end of the year, anyway. He was really taken with the store, can't remember the name of the place now. They only charged three bucks for the cassette.

Trip Maker, Friday, 31 October 2008 16:01 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sure they will kick much ass in this reunion.

Trip Maker, Friday, 31 October 2008 16:02 (seventeen years ago)

"selections from dopesmoker"

69, Friday, 31 October 2008 16:22 (seventeen years ago)

That's what I was thinking.

Wish they had done a full uk tour instead!

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 31 October 2008 19:41 (seventeen years ago)

Fantastic news, I was listening to Holy Mountain this morning.

Oakland, CA metal band HIGH ON FIRE has announced that it will be forced to miss this summer's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival as front man and guitarist Matt Pike enters treatment for alcohol rehabilitation. The award winning power trio (also featuring drummer Des Kensel and bassist Jeff Matz) will put its scheduled touring plans on hold indefinitely as Pike takes the necessary steps towards regaining his health.

"High on Fire would like to thank everyone involved with the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival for the opportunity to be a part of this year's tour," said the band in a statement. "We regretfully will have to bow out as our friend and bandmate begins his recovery, but very much appreciate having been asked to be a part of this summer's festival run."

I think I'd drink myself into a coma if I realized I was supposed to play at that

"High on Fire would like to thank everyone involved with the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival for the opportunity to be a part of this year's tour," the band's management wrote in a statement written without their knowledge.

I don't think anyone with a soul could say "We'd like to thank everyone involved with the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival etc etc." out loud.

DEATH PUPPET (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 7 October 2018 03:14 (seven years ago)

I love Sleep and OM rule but I've somehow managed to bypass High on Fire almost entirely. It is time to remedy this.

they are in my top 3 of live acts, easily. my ears don't agree, cos they are fucking LOUD

fuck the NRA (Neanderthal), Sunday, 7 October 2018 13:59 (seven years ago)

Yeah, they are easily the loudest band I've ever seen that wasn't making noise for volume's sake.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 7 October 2018 14:01 (seven years ago)

Should I just start with the new one? The cover is stupendous,

Have the Rams stopped screaming yet, Lloris? (Chinaski), Sunday, 7 October 2018 15:50 (seven years ago)

My ranking:

Blessed Black Wings
Snakes of the Divine
Electric Messiah
Luminiferous
The Art of Self Defense
Surrounded By Thieves
Death is This Communion
De Vermis Mysteriis

grawlix (unperson), Sunday, 7 October 2018 15:54 (seven years ago)

BBW would be all time classic for "Brother In The Wind" alone - not many bands can ruminate on mortality and the death of a friend while also pummeling your skull into dust.

DEATH PUPPET (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 7 October 2018 21:05 (seven years ago)

Cor, Steps of the Ziggurat is immense. As with Sleep, you get the sense Pike is enjoying the shit out of the music.

I vote Sleep if it’s a choice between physical states.

Blessed Black Wings
Snakes of the Divine
Electric Messiah

I did not expect HoF to reach these height again, but a few listens in to Electric Messiah and I'm craving more more more. That hasn't happened since Snakes.
