What ever happened to Nick Slyvester?

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 22:46 (twenty years ago)

I'm too lazy to read this thread, did anyone ever point out that the constructed analogy doesn't actually ascribe any negative verdict on the bands in question?

Dan (Cat : Flamethrower :: Dog : Bazooka) Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 23:38 (twenty years ago)

no, but we pointed out that thread creator is an absolute moran.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 30 March 2006 00:01 (twenty years ago)

really though, ariel pink is awful live.

lf (lfam), Thursday, 30 March 2006 05:39 (twenty years ago)

seriously

lf (lfam), Thursday, 30 March 2006 05:39 (twenty years ago)

i disagree just a wee bit-- i thought it was some drunken guys making chaotic swirling noise pop.

(also worth it to mention that neither lf nor i knew that it was ariel pink until a few months after the concert)

I saw Ariel Pink live earlier this year and he was terrible. We left after like three songs. To be fair, though, I was already smitten with his records and when I was on my way to the show, I wondered, "how could he possibly pull off his music in a live setting?

Then I got to the show and realized, "I see... the answer is, he clearly can't pull it off. like, at all." and so my friends and I left long before he brought in the local band to serve as backup. His music just doesn't lend itsel to a live venue.

Would it be super-duper lame of me to note that I've been annoyed by this thread's title for nearly TWO YEARS now? The analogy doesn't actually insult either act! They just have equivalent relationships to spoiled food!

nabisco, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 06:29 (nineteen years ago)

(I guess it could be suggesting that Excepter are classier and more expensive than Ariel Pink, but generally speaking it says not much at all.)

I saw Ariel Pink once and thought it was HILARIOUS. I'm kind of a loud laugher, this girl right in front of me kept turning around and giving me dirty "how DAREE you ruin this for me!" looks, which only made me LOL all the Ler.

nickalicious, Monday, 31 March 2008 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

I saw Ariel Pink live back in November, and thought he was amazing...(of course, he had a full band, with Cass McCombs on guitar)...

henry s, Monday, 31 March 2008 18:55 (eighteen years ago)

I like both of these bands, can you call Ariel Pink a band? I like that band and that guy.

I know, right?, Monday, 31 March 2008 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

I saw Exceptor a few weeks back in Ithaca and one of the members clearly looked pretty pregnant, at least to me and the friends I was with. Not a big deal, except her eyes looked really glazed over...it was really sad.

three months pass...

saw ariel pink last night, they were really great. sorta ramshackle - hazy rhythms coming through like a warped cassette tape, warm and damaged. lots of reverb'd hissy vocal textures and group singing. two basses. they were selling 'doldrums' on vinyl for $40 and some tour only 'oddities' cd-r for $25 which i thought was sort of ridiculous, but whatever. bought 'doldrums' on cd, loving it. ba da ba ba ba
