cherry/underdog/jack all of a particular style of spoon song, cherry prob the best of them but i didn't vote for any

eh i guess i had underdog higher on my long list, w/e this is not really what i want from my spoon

this poll had a lot of close numbers, never watched a poll that was so close before. it could have happened thou.

when i first realized Spoon was actually awesome, Cherry Bomb and Rhythm & Soul were the two that I just could not get enough of.

Cherry Bomb was the first Spoon song I ever heard, I think I must've played it 10 times that night. It was my no. 4.

I found a cool interview on eMusic where Britt Daniel explains some of the songs on the new album. About You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb he said:

That central image of the "cherry bomb" came naturally. Sometimes lines just come to you while you’re singing, and you’re not sure where they came from. I came up with the cherry bomb being representative of a need to blow out this romantic flame. Breaking up — or being broken up with — can be pretty devastating. This song is saying “You need to blow out that flame, we lost it long ago.” It’s actually a really sad song.

We tried this one I don’t know how many different ways. We recorded it three times, and it was one of those songs we really struggled with. At one point we had a kind of “space rock” arrangement — which is a cool version and the people who heard it were like “Ah, I still like that version better,” but this is the one that seemed to work best for me.

That consistent drum beat that runs through the whole song — Jim’s smart like that. Sometimes what a song needs is just a very steady rhythm. Jim’s got a real musician’s point of view about songs. I don’t mean to slander most drummers, but sometimes the drummer’s way of looking at a song is “get your rocks off.” Jim is more about what’s right for the song. One of the first things I noticed about Jim: we met in a recording studio and, after going through a song once, he remembered where all the stops were. He had a real sense for what was going on in the song, which was a very different experience for me.

cherry bomb's production is a little too on the nose for me.

Don't Make Me a Target was my number 2, Lines in the Suit my number 3, didn't realize I was so consensus-y with this one.

I like Black Like Me a lot but I didn't think anyone else would vote for it on account of it not being fun time party Spoon. I also voted for "Goodnight Laura" but I have a feeling that one's not going to pop up in the top 5.

Also my #8 and #6 placed at #8 and #6 respectively, haha

a lyric in "Black Like Me" provided the name for my blog, for which I'm eternally grateful.

I can't believe four songs beat this one. This is the type of Spoon that I expected to keep Black Like Me out of the rollout.

the last two ga tracks were the only ones i voted for from that album so uh i guess i'm in line with the crowd on this.

damn i see i have been messing up the year 2007 on these last few Ga Ga Ga posts.

yes, it only beat "Black Like Me" by 3 points but it had 2 number one votes to put it over the top despite having one less vote.

i'm starting to see why Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga won the album poll, this is the sixth song, so far, to make the Top 20 and seventh in the Top 25. WOW.

I remember hearing "I Turn My Camera On" on the radio and being shocked that Spoon was getting radio play. I actually remember where I was (Bickford's parking lot, Manchester, NH).

I am just now listening to the LP version of "The Mystery Zone" and I think I actually prefer the truncated CD version. That abrupt mid-word cutoff is just hilarious.

i didn't know there was a long version! the cutoff is vital.

It's a friend of mine - taken in Toledo, Spain.

one of their best songs, was my number 6.

i have been there, Spain is so amazing. fell so much in love with Spain that i wanted to relocate there for a little while, never did happen. i so want to go back.
