oh man i just realized this means "the ghost of you lingers" is totally gonna chart higher than "paper tiger," we're all going to hell now

soyrev, Friday, 31 July 2015 05:18 (ten years ago)

I've honestly no idea which are the popular songs by Spoon, let alone the popular ones on ILM. I don't dare predict the top 3 songs.

Since I didn't vote these would have been my top 10 (unranked) songs:

Do You
Everything Hits at Once
Inside Out
Finer Feelings
Small Stakes
Stay Don't Go
The Fitted Shirt
They Never Got You
Who Makes Your Money
You Got Yr Cherry Bomb

The drumming on that live Metal Detektor up thread is so great.

Amazing images.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 31 July 2015 06:50 (ten years ago)

mine:

1. Ginne Fiction
2. Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
3. Transference
4. Kill the Moonlight
5. A Thing Called Divine Fits
6. They Want My Soul
7. Girls Can Tell
8. A Series of Sneaks

Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 07:01 (ten years ago)

to make it interesting i only used pics from my photo collections

ha, awesome idea.

re: #35 and 34: They Never Got You I think of as a perfect stripped down groove that could go on for ever as far as I'm concerned. Love the handclaps that top it out. Who Makes Your Money otoh I think of as repetitive hook-free tedium (although the guitar line that comes in half way through ain't bad). Objectively, yeah you could flip those views around and they would make just as much sense.

ledge, Friday, 31 July 2015 08:18 (ten years ago)

I love Who Makes Your Money; too low!

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 31 July 2015 09:52 (ten years ago)

My albums ballot in order.

Kill The Moonlight
Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
Gimme Fiction
Transference
A Series Of Sneaks
A Thing Called Divine Fits
Girls Can Tell
They Want My Soul
Telephono

I love Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, and it was my 'in' for Spoon, but KTM is just... it's amazing. So tight, so creative, so hooky, so tuneful. So fucking cool. It might be the coolest album I own.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 31 July 2015 09:54 (ten years ago)

i was the ONE person who put "paper tiger" at number one? holy shit people!!!!

Even though it's got a few great songs I never really clicked with Kill The Moonlight, it's actually the only one I don't own.

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 31 July 2015 13:36 (ten years ago)

Gimme Fiction was my first Spoon album, bought it on a whim for £4 in a Virgin/Zavvi sale a year or so after it came out. I only really liked a few tracks and I've never really got any further with it. Then someone recommended GCT to me soon after and I loved it, caught up with the back catalogue after that. I don't think they've ever made an outright bad album.

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 31 July 2015 13:40 (ten years ago)

i was lost on the albums. just couldn't decide and was changing it daily – and not by little, completely different from one inception to another. top 7 were all interchangeable.

AKA Thermo Thinwall (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 31 July 2015 15:16 (ten years ago)

yea thats maybe true. i don't have a go to spoon album, just a go to spoon playlist with like 6-7 songs from every album.

Spottie, Friday, 31 July 2015 15:17 (ten years ago)

Is Transference the most solemn?

hardcore dilettante, Friday, 31 July 2015 16:01 (ten years ago)

reading and relistening, i wish i'd voted now. i keep thinking of my musician friend with p. good and even similar taste to mine who told me "uh, yeah, they're not terrible, but not much there." i want to find him and slap some sense into him.

da croupier, Friday, 31 July 2015 16:26 (ten years ago)

lollllllllllllllllllllllllll woops

da croupier, Friday, 31 July 2015 16:26 (ten years ago)

I saw you did it last Sunday and said nothing cuz it was too perfect. Transcendent even.

telephono would totally be one of those "underrated post-grunge bands you can find for $2" CDs if the group had broken up after Sneaks. And I'm just surprised if everyone really prefers every disc of their more finger-snappy shooby-doo shit to their most pixies-meets-wire album

da croupier, Friday, 31 July 2015 16:52 (ten years ago)

Telephono sounds like a Pixies tribute band attempting original material.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 31 July 2015 16:58 (ten years ago)

it definitely doesn't help that the first song (while great imo) is the most obv pixies homage

da croupier, Friday, 31 July 2015 17:00 (ten years ago)

did anyone ever come up with tapes of requiem performing

j., Friday, 31 July 2015 17:01 (ten years ago)

i'm up.

Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 17:22 (ten years ago)

most spoon albums have nonessential sequences, on telephono they're also derivative

Eleanor Friedberger Cover

Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 18:05 (ten years ago)

Love this one, but was a late scratch from my ballot. I scratched it in favor of another Transference song that I'm worried won't make it.

thom yorke state of mind (voodoo chili), Friday, 31 July 2015 18:09 (ten years ago)

cool pic

Spottie, Friday, 31 July 2015 18:10 (ten years ago)

that Eleanor cover is great, did not know that she went out with Britt.

Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 18:15 (ten years ago)

or use to go out with...

Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 18:19 (ten years ago)

How did that have 3 # 1 votes but still Finnish so low?!

AKA Thermo Thinwall (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 31 July 2015 18:22 (ten years ago)

Stay Don't Go and Trouble both too low, IMO. Both are top-10 for me.

hardcore dilettante, Friday, 31 July 2015 18:22 (ten years ago)

no right to bitch because I didn't vote, but that's not gonna stop me.

hardcore dilettante, Friday, 31 July 2015 18:23 (ten years ago)

and it shouldn't. i voted for both and it is insane that it did get three number ones but still only managed 29.

Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 18:25 (ten years ago)

I love the unusual (for Spoon) backing vox immoderately.
