Rhthm & Soul def not one of my favorites. Voted for Execution cos I love the simplicity of that riff - middle 8 handclap - riff - whistle section
― Spottie, Friday, 31 July 2015 00:32 (ten years ago)
They Never Got You: Great tune that just didn't find a place on my ballot. Gimme Fiction has a great insistent pulse through most of its tracks, it seems like, moreso than Kill the Moonlight.
― Tom Violence, Friday, 31 July 2015 00:35 (ten years ago)
This made my ballot, and "They Want My Soul" is a good sequel.
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 31 July 2015 00:36 (ten years ago)
Voted for these last two, "Metal Dekektor" my #5 and the highlight of the early stuff for me
― bunny slopes, Friday, 31 July 2015 00:40 (ten years ago)
blew my wad already, this was my number one. i just love the ending with the buildup.
― Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 00:46 (ten years ago)
ha i don't think this woulda made my top 60!
― Spottie, Friday, 31 July 2015 00:48 (ten years ago)
this song is illustrative of the issues with the back half of gimme fiction--just a little too repetitive
― call all destroyer, Friday, 31 July 2015 00:48 (ten years ago)
yup

― carly bae jepsen (monotony), Friday, 31 July 2015 01:04 (ten years ago)
On my ballot. It justifies its length.
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 31 July 2015 01:22 (ten years ago)

― soyrev, Friday, 31 July 2015 02:19 (ten years ago)
such a great song, in my Top 40 but didn't make my ballot.
― Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 02:28 (ten years ago)
haha, i could say the same thing for "Out Go the Lights."
― Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 02:29 (ten years ago)
These last two both in my top ten (I guess I like their ballads). "Out Go the Lights" is so tough and lovely. I didn't pay much attention to it at first but it's the deepest cut on an album full of growers.

shit forgot to vote on this one and I consider them probably the best rock band of the past 20 years or so. Great images and great countdown so far.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 31 July 2015 05:06 (ten years ago)
oh man i just realized this means "the ghost of you lingers" is totally gonna chart higher than "paper tiger," we're all going to hell now
― soyrev, Friday, 31 July 2015 05:18 (ten years ago)
I've honestly no idea which are the popular songs by Spoon, let alone the popular ones on ILM. I don't dare predict the top 3 songs.
Since I didn't vote these would have been my top 10 (unranked) songs:

ha, awesome idea.
re: #35 and 34: They Never Got You I think of as a perfect stripped down groove that could go on for ever as far as I'm concerned. Love the handclaps that top it out. Who Makes Your Money otoh I think of as repetitive hook-free tedium (although the guitar line that comes in half way through ain't bad). Objectively, yeah you could flip those views around and they would make just as much sense.
― ledge, Friday, 31 July 2015 08:18 (ten years ago)

I love Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, and it was my 'in' for Spoon, but KTM is just... it's amazing. So tight, so creative, so hooky, so tuneful. So fucking cool. It might be the coolest album I own.
