excited for the new record, doubly excited that the new song kinda sounds like boston/the cult

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 July 2015 19:18 (ten years ago)

these answers tell me nothing re the album i have !

(and whether it is representative of their groove .. )

mark e, Thursday, 9 July 2015 19:28 (ten years ago)

i mean, is mine part of a 'story', or a one off !!?

i get very confused re this lot.

something that never happens re black veiled brides ..

ahem.

mark e, Thursday, 9 July 2015 19:29 (ten years ago)

oh lol

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 July 2015 19:30 (ten years ago)

you have the first volume of good apollo i'm burning star iv, which is the fourth chapter of the series

the second half of iv is called no world for tomorrow. it is less good but still pretty ok

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 July 2015 19:31 (ten years ago)

if you want more songs in line with the record you're digging, i recommend in keeping secrets of silent earth:3 and also the afterman

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 July 2015 19:32 (ten years ago)

but yeah it's a very representative record, even though the last four tracks on good apollo i'm burning star iv from fear through the eyes of madness (christ) are the proggiest they ever get

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 July 2015 19:33 (ten years ago)

Oh, sorry. Yeah, pretty much everything ^^ has said.
I think that Vol. 1 might have been their most popular album? It's pretty good, and he's totally right about In Keeping Secrets.
As far as the story, I think it's the end of that story arc with Claudio? It's either the end or close to the end. Year of the Black Rainbow is a sort of prequel and Afterman is Sirius Amory.

I think I just outed myself as a giant CoCa nerd.

hourspass, Thursday, 9 July 2015 19:42 (ten years ago)

lol right i think once you write a prequel to a prequel it's prob time to stop

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 July 2015 19:58 (ten years ago)

ta people.

i'm still confused.

and people laff at my love of 70s prog !

so, in summary, i would be best buying more black veil brides albums.

(i really really like 'wretched and divine' )

mark e, Thursday, 9 July 2015 20:56 (ten years ago)

one thing i really dislike about good apollo iv vol 1 is uh how misogynistic it is? and it is literally the only coheed record like that

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 July 2015 20:57 (ten years ago)

ahh .. i need to listen more closely then.

or then again, perhaps not ..

mark e, Thursday, 9 July 2015 20:59 (ten years ago)

never been one to listen to lyrics that closely (unless its jim foetus.. )

mark e, Thursday, 9 July 2015 20:59 (ten years ago)

i mean i didn't even realize it until i revisited it last week

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 July 2015 21:01 (ten years ago)

princess of hell (BradNelson), Saturday, 18 August 2018 14:37 (seven years ago)

woah @ that song. Black Parade vibes with the guitar arrangement

wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Saturday, 18 August 2018 18:18 (seven years ago)

Simon otm. The guitar on the chorus is my favourite thing they've done in ages.

tangenttangent, Saturday, 18 August 2018 20:05 (seven years ago)

I'm trying to avoid hyperbole but I think "The Gutter" might be my new fave song of theirs, though I skipped the last couple releases

princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 4 October 2018 15:22 (seven years ago)

this is sounding like the record I always wanted them to make

wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Thursday, 4 October 2018 15:29 (seven years ago)

i'm listening to it now and i think it might be!

princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 4 October 2018 15:37 (seven years ago)

"toys" is incredible

princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 4 October 2018 15:45 (seven years ago)

sigh, I want to love this but the ludicrous length + lack of variation are brutal to me, idk why I'm surprised cause it's their whole thing much of the time but it still bugs me. once I figure out a ten-track edit I'll probably love it.

wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Thursday, 4 October 2018 16:49 (seven years ago)

yeah the length really sucks

princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 5 October 2018 22:08 (seven years ago)

i mean the songs are all really good but this album doesn't breathe at all

princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 5 October 2018 22:08 (seven years ago)

"toys" is still the fucking best

princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 5 October 2018 22:10 (seven years ago)

this is basically a power metal album

princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 5 October 2018 23:38 (seven years ago)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIF2a0eEUiI

this song rules so much

princess of hell (BradNelson), Saturday, 6 October 2018 00:18 (seven years ago)

Brad I'm gonna let you finish but this is emphatically not power metal

she carries a torch. two torches, actually (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Saturday, 6 October 2018 00:33 (seven years ago)

nb I am enjoying it though I like my C&C proggier

she carries a torch. two torches, actually (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Saturday, 6 October 2018 00:33 (seven years ago)

oh i just meant in the density of hooks and the unnecessary length! also, same

princess of hell (BradNelson), Saturday, 6 October 2018 00:41 (seven years ago)

should’ve made my re-coheedwagon joke instead

princess of hell (BradNelson), Saturday, 6 October 2018 01:22 (seven years ago)

a nice side effect of this record is it made me revisit no world for tomorrow which is way more awesome than i remembered it being especially this song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGpqtO6Vd_k

princess of hell (BradNelson), Tuesday, 9 October 2018 23:34 (seven years ago)

every time i hear "time consumer" i get impressed all over again that it is basically a mid-'90s emo song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1eAdCEvdv4

princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 12 October 2018 13:07 (seven years ago)

this is probably the only band i love where i think the debut towers over everything else

princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 12 October 2018 13:08 (seven years ago)

one year passes...

Hearing from a friend at tonight's show that drummer passed out on stage. Ambulance called.

Hope he is ok.

Kinda wish the moral wasn't so "bitches, man" but otherwise I appreciate the spirit of this.

A White, White Gay (cryptosicko), Friday, 21 August 2020 20:35 (five years ago)

lol yeah that's a weird flash of old claudio. song is very solid though

we allll go up in flaaaaames

(new album is awesome)

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 23 June 2022 17:35 (three years ago)

all around shorter song lengths and more textural variety than vaxis i, i think for the better

"a disappearing act" is the kind of pop/disco/metal track i think i've only heard from devin townsend before

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 23 June 2022 17:49 (three years ago)

i haven’t been able to stop listening to coheed this week. really strong discog, only one album i don’t really rate and it’s the antiprog/anticoncept one (color before the sun) and even then it has an amazing song called “island”

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 July 2022 10:19 (three years ago)

i decided that “ten speed” is their very best song though. it even helps that it’s about a sentient bicycle demon

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 July 2022 11:04 (three years ago)
