i am so addicted to the way he phrases "turns into coffee in the morning"

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 23 June 2015 21:52 (ten years ago)

I've been humming it for six months.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 23 June 2015 21:55 (ten years ago)

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 23 June 2015 21:58 (ten years ago)

lex pretend, Tuesday, 23 June 2015 22:06 (ten years ago)

lex pretend, Tuesday, 23 June 2015 22:07 (ten years ago)

I took care of you, lex

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 23 June 2015 22:10 (ten years ago)

i seem not to have posted itt after his show last week, it was fucking amazing and he sang "no type" and he plays archetypes so well and with just the right amount of self-awareness and the combination of his highest sweetest falsetto and dirty grimy guitar is something i could listen to forever and "leaves", with the guitar turned up, made me think of "summer of 69", which it hasn't on record

as the official california correspondent of ILX, i can confirm that WILDHEART represents california very well

j. winters (josh), Tuesday, 23 June 2015 23:01 (ten years ago)

otm

makes me want to rollerskate down venice beach in satin hotpants

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 23 June 2015 23:20 (ten years ago)

i think of WILDHEART as caressing your bae in the backseat of an old convertible while gazing at the stars after aimlessly driving around LA; also psychedelic drugs are involved

j. winters (josh), Tuesday, 23 June 2015 23:41 (ten years ago)

Most of these singles on Spotify would benefit from a verse by Pitbull.

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 24 June 2015 03:48 (ten years ago)

luckily there is a remedy, it is this record

j., Wednesday, 24 June 2015 03:52 (ten years ago)

bonus tracks are great/weird

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Friday, 26 June 2015 15:44 (ten years ago)

wait there are bonus tracks

j., Friday, 26 June 2015 16:02 (ten years ago)

full length "destinado", "simple things," "gfg" (stands for "good fucking girl" and is mostly a weird digressive landscape), and a great great great song called "damned"

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Friday, 26 June 2015 16:05 (ten years ago)

wait "destinado a morir" was on the main track listing of the promo before "hollywood dreams" iirc

lex pretend, Friday, 26 June 2015 16:18 (ten years ago)

yeah as a 1:30 interlude.

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Friday, 26 June 2015 16:47 (ten years ago)

I have to say that a lot of this album sounds like "weird digressive landscapes."

The New Gay Sadness (cryptosicko), Friday, 26 June 2015 17:37 (ten years ago)

Not really. Only "The Valley" and "Flesh" get too dense.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 26 June 2015 17:39 (ten years ago)

I should add that it is still very early in my relationship with the album (well, obviously), so I'm hoping/expecting it to come into focus for me later, but my initial impression was still kind of, "ok, but where are the *songs*?"

The New Gay Sadness (cryptosicko), Friday, 26 June 2015 17:41 (ten years ago)

("Coffee" very much excepted, of course. Song of the Year so far, for me.)

The New Gay Sadness (cryptosicko), Friday, 26 June 2015 17:42 (ten years ago)

"flesh" is dope imo

J0rdan S., Friday, 26 June 2015 17:47 (ten years ago)

wait till you get to the last two songs, crypto

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 26 June 2015 17:47 (ten years ago)

"flesh" is sooo good

there are so many *songs* here, consider for instance "waves" and "hollywood dreams"

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Friday, 26 June 2015 18:10 (ten years ago)

the songs are masterpieces of deceptively casual understatement and pacing, i've only had this 5 days and i've already played it like 20 times

j., Friday, 26 June 2015 18:35 (ten years ago)

coffee in the morning
coffee in the morning
coffee in the morning
coffee in the morning

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 26 June 2015 19:23 (ten years ago)

The second half of "waves" is exhilarating. Paid this dust in the wake of CRJ but am excited to return to it this weekend.

carly bae jepsen (monotony), Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:35 (ten years ago)

yes...I...paid this dust...as well...you know me...always paying dust...

this is the best album ever

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 16:33 (ten years ago)

if you mean the best album made by Miguel since 2013, then sure

some dude, Tuesday, 30 June 2015 16:54 (ten years ago)

lol when i'm listening to it it feels like the best thing in the world, so much depth and color

i tentatively think it's better than kaleidoscope dream

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 17:05 (ten years ago)

Only on my first play and some of it sounds a bit laboured in the way that Kaleidoscope Dream never did, but Hollywood Dreams and NWA really stood out.

Haha okay I just got to the second half of Leaves and I *really* wasn't expecting it to turn into 1979 by the Smashing Pumpkins.
