Since it became lastfm, I guess I should update (as if anyone gives two shits):

PappaWheelie 2 (PappaWheelie 2), Thursday, 29 June 2006 21:03 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm... It seems to be posting some random songs that I've never heard of. Thanks LastFM!

Either I did something wrong or LastFM is completely screwed up. I guess it doesn't matter because it only seems to update my currently playing list about once a year.

Matt Olken (Moodles), Thursday, 29 June 2006 21:04 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone know how I can circumvent my firewall at work so as to get the last.fm player to work?

Baaderonixx immer wieder (baaderonixx), Friday, 30 June 2006 08:45 (twenty years ago)

Not me, but that sounds like the kind of question I've seen asked before on the last.fm forums. Have you tried searching there?

pleased to mitya (mitya), Friday, 30 June 2006 10:34 (twenty years ago)

Thanks - I had a look, but it seems the question had never been really answered...; Wouldn't be possible to stream the last.fm radio through WMP or iTunes?

Baaderonixx immer wieder (baaderonixx), Friday, 30 June 2006 12:35 (twenty years ago)

I'm not a technie, so I can't give a proper answer, other than to say that that's the way it used to work. But about a year ago, I guess, they changed over to the separate player module. There was a lot of grumbling, but from what I understand, it was a technical requirement for the site to continue to work (or grow).

pleased to mitya (mitya), Friday, 30 June 2006 12:39 (twenty years ago)

(Although there is the last.fm proxy if you REALLY want to use iTunes or WMP, although I understand it doesn't work as well as it used to.)

It's horrible and it looks like lego.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 14 July 2006 17:48 (nineteen years ago)

It's also moving like a fucking corpse. Do last.fm not have an IT section and just get the work experience kid in to do it?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 14 July 2006 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

I like the pics beside the albums/tracks though. Also if you click on the slightly hidden black icon on the top right just to the left of where your username is you can change your page to BLACK if you don't like the colours.

Will that only work with an IPOD? Mine is a Creativ thingy (sorry, I have absolutely no idea how any of this works and this may well seem like a silly question).

Also, not that anyone will be all that bothered:

Right...

It seems my partner has put Itunes on my computer. It seems to be a bit nicer than windows media player, but it doesn't scrobble, even with the plugin downloaded. Are any of you using it, and how have you managed to make it work? Otherwise, as I'm currently obsessed with lastfm, its back to WMP.

I'm not even sure why I posted that. hive-mind thing, I guess.

Has anyone else gone beyond 30,000 tracks played? Or do you reset quite often?

frenchbloke (frenchbloke), Monday, 18 September 2006 20:58 (nineteen years ago)

I'm at a little under 50,000 tracks played, and there is certainly a problem with misleading overall charts - I haven't listened to most of the artists on my top 50 in months.

That said, I don't think I'll reset my charts anytime soon, as all it would take to solve the problem would be more short-term charts (3 month, maybe) taking the dominant place on the profile, pushing overall and top tracks lower (or even kicking top tracks altogether, it seems worthless). It's a user problem too, in my case; the more music I get, the less inclined I am to listen to the same albums over and over again, making it difficult for new bands to rise to the top of my charts no matter how much I like them.

That, and it might be nice to look back on as a kind of musical yearbook or something later on.

That's my experience too - the few few albums I ripped from CD are heavily over-represented.

Yeah, it's buggy for all I think. I make it a point to not play anything not tagged well, but it still seems to stop recording at random.

Sometimes if I check it a day or two later, a large stockpile of played songs will suddenly show up tough.

I'm glad to see people are still using this - about half of this thread seems to be people who have had problems and couldn't be arsed to fix them.

-- someone let this mitya out!

I'm using it again... it was really, really shit for far too long though. I just left it alone & blank till they sorted it, I have no patience.
