a friend of mine lives near that and was so excited last weekend about it.
(to be fair, he will be raising money for his charity there .. so he has good reason)
i tried to feign enthusiasm, but when he said m&s i could not help but blurt out re my disgust.
that said, the very best, are a lot of fun live.

mark e, Friday, 19 June 2015 08:31 (ten years ago)

yeah i was gonna say it's not the worst lineup in the world. i'm excited about our local festival and the headline acts there are the brand new heavies and the neville staples band, so... but i guess it's good you now get these smaller local festivals that double as community projects.

boat of boats (dog latin), Friday, 19 June 2015 09:06 (ten years ago)

but i guess it's good you now get these smaller local festivals that double as community projects.

we have one of those near here.
the line ups have been pretty dire but it still sells out within minutes,
the whole village really loves the whole event.

mark e, Friday, 19 June 2015 09:32 (ten years ago)

In those circumstance I think you almost don't need good bands, you just need them to be not actively terrible and for the beer to keep flowing. Ben Howard and the Mumfords would be a step too far for me, if it were on my doorstep I'd leave for the weekend.

Matt DC, Friday, 19 June 2015 10:20 (ten years ago)

good point. few people go to our local fest because of the acts - they go because it's got a reputation for being a lot of fun, although i can imagine a known headliner helps justify the entrance fee.

boat of boats (dog latin), Friday, 19 June 2015 10:24 (ten years ago)

Yeah this weekend there's this annual Fête de la Musique street festival thing here in town, the (dozens of) bands and DJs are uniformly terrible and rarely above the "bar band" category but still there's something like a hundred thousand visitors and people absolutely love it.

Industrial BBQ

cod latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 1 July 2015 08:31 (ten years ago)

At first I thought the festival was literally for fans of industrial size barbecue grills, and I was like wow, I didn't realize BBQ enthusiasts are so heavily into metal. But then I managed to parse the title in my head.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 1 July 2015 10:56 (ten years ago)

Unbelievably, Livestock has managed to get worse since the poster I shared a couple of months ago. They've added Toploader on the Saturday. FUCKING TOPLOADER!

arbiter of sorrow (aldo), Wednesday, 1 July 2015 12:10 (ten years ago)

Toploader was always a very misleading name for that band. They're not "top", and they're a "loader" shit.

You’re being too simplistic and you’re insulting my poor heart (Turrican), Wednesday, 1 July 2015 12:15 (ten years ago)

Sexy Weirdos were promoted by three lines on the final line-up list.

flyingtrain (sbahnhof), Thursday, 2 July 2015 04:05 (ten years ago)

the band names on that livestock poster are amazing. I refuse to believe there is really a band calling themselves 'penny for the workhouse'

That were right good. (Very low expectations, mind you.) This whole baggy thing might catch on.

Livestock has to be the thread leader, surely? A striking lack of transition between the headliners and supports. It jumps straight from unfondly-remembered ex-Top 10 acts to seemingly unknown bands, who the organizers shuffled around at random on the poster. Poor old I Am The Id got bumped down by 7 lines. Not wanting to be unfair on any of those bands, except maybe Mumford & the Bear and late addition to the bottom of the bill The Nick Parker Band. Hope we see a legal action by the real Nick Parker.

Courtesy of Should Festivals be Banned?, here's a former nominee. Based on amusing artist names, I think I would go to this.

there's a lot of garbage on that bill, but 10-12 decent to great acts mixed in, two to three of them quite appropriate to southern california not counting ether snoop dogg or no doubt

Lol seriously?

Matt DC, Monday, 22 February 2016 15:55 (ten years ago)

tbf there are a TON of travis fans on ilx

why does it always raaain on me!

*vigorously snaps fingers*

Karl Malone, Monday, 22 February 2016 15:58 (ten years ago)

plenty of bieber and rihannna fans on ilm. the stuff like travis/kaiser chiefs is the acts everyone on ilm agrees are shit

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 17:01 (ten years ago)

that bill is probably what t in the park will be like in 5 years

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 17:01 (ten years ago)

With the exception of Katy B, Years & Years and the 90s acts, the rest of that bill is regarded by most of ILM with indifference or contempt. I can't think of a single ILXer who would be driven to defend it as an entity, much less rep for it, beyond "well there's obviously a market for it".

Matt DC, Monday, 22 February 2016 17:16 (ten years ago)

a few did on my fb post but n/m

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 17:17 (ten years ago)

I mean everything below the headliners, unless there's a groundwell of Sia fandom I wasn't previously aware of.

Matt DC, Monday, 22 February 2016 17:18 (ten years ago)

I wonder if there is a petition by outraged mainstream 'indie' fans?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 17:30 (ten years ago)

No one is invested enough in the V festival to care, and those that do go every year are likely to be more or less okay with the lineup. It's been pretty much a pop festival for years now. You'd have to be a particularly antidleluvian kind of dullard to get angry about it especially when Reading and numerous other bland Home Counties festivals already exist.

Matt DC, Monday, 22 February 2016 17:44 (ten years ago)

no Rihanna fans on ILM no.

speaking of which

Couple of weeks back my teenage nephew told me that no-one goes to T in the Park for the bands, just the Slam tent.

everything, Thursday, 25 February 2016 21:45 (ten years ago)

aye, not all my cup of tea but some top notch stuff for an epic swedge fest nonetheless

Cornelius Pardew (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 25 February 2016 21:52 (ten years ago)

a lot of festivals esp of an indie persuasion have the effect of assimilating even acts I like into a general soup of mediocrity when you're looking at the bill. the Slam tent does the inverse and makes me think I'd have a great time watching ppl I don't really care about (like Slam)

drive me to a girly rave (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 25 February 2016 21:59 (ten years ago)

That's pretty much a flat-pack assembly festival dance lineup, you'll be able to see most of that lot at virtually any festival this summer. I'm pretty sure I read the phrase 'Jackmaster b2b Joy Orbison' more than I do 'Hello' in 2016.

Matt DC, Friday, 26 February 2016 16:41 (ten years ago)

Obviously it's better than virtually anything on the main stages and I'm sure it'll do the job just fine, but there's nothing exciting or unique about it.
