question since the youtube list is making me want to listen to things over and over and i can't sit here at the computer forever -- if i have to purchase one item that has * the most good songs * the long version of grapevine* ramble tamble
which CCR product should i purchase? help please i don't want to figure this out if there is an easy answer!!

Well Grapevine + Ramble Tamble are on Cosmo's Factory but there's a lot of compilations too.

Easiest route may be to just get Chronicle and go to youtube whenever you want to hear the long Grapevine.
― it's not arugula science (WilliamC), Thursday, 18 June 2015 16:33 (nine years ago) link
ok that sounds goodi already have green riverthank you
i wonder how many people have named their practice spaces "cosmo's factory"
for example: no i need long grapevine in portable format so i can take it to cosmo's factory!
― Florianne Fracke (La Lechera), Thursday, 18 June 2015 16:35 (nine years ago) link
The CD version of Chronicle Vol. 1 has the full version of "Grapevine" but doesn't have "Ramble Tamble," which is on Vol. 2. Honestly getting both Vol. 1 & 2 is never a waste of anyone's money.
― example (crüt), Thursday, 18 June 2015 16:36 (nine years ago) link
that's all I owned for years and felt reasonably satisfied. You basically own 85 percent of their catalog w/those two comps (no "Effigy" though).

CCR are like Al Green: a singles band that recorded great albums w/deep cuts yet you won't feel unsatisfied w/owning the GH.
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 18 June 2015 16:44 (nine years ago) link
that makes sense, good to knowi think the greatest hits would lead me to cosmo's factory eventually so i guess maybe i'll just start there since i def already know the hits (although the long version of grapevine was new to me!)

there's a funny bit in "Up Around the Bend" where Fogerty describes listening to their version of Grapevine on the radio and thinking to himself "wtf not ANOTHER chorus!?"
― Οὖτις, Thursday, 18 June 2015 16:52 (nine years ago) link
I didn't want to put too many covers on my ballot, but they did amazing covers. In addition to "Grapevine," I'd single out "Ninety-Nine and a Half (Won't Do)" on the debut and especially "Good Golly Miss Molly" on Bayou Country -- even more intense and energetic than Little Richard's version.

If I was to do it again, I'd find a way to include "Bootleg" and "Walk On the Water" and I'd move Green River up to #3 on the albums list

Easy for me to say, but--while I can certainly see going to court over song royalties; CCR is still all over at least a couple of radio formats--if this is just about the other two guys using the CCR name, I'd say let it go. I don't see Fogerty's (John's) legacy or whatever threatened by this at all. And that can't be that much money involved.

In all honesty, after seeing recent-ish clips of Fogerty's band, where Kenny Aaronoff plays like he took "ham-fisted" as a compliment, I'd much rather go to a Revisited show.
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Saturday, 11 July 2015 12:03 (eight years ago) link
always thought that Elliott Easton must be really hard up that he's stuck with Cook and Clifford for so many years…or maybe he relates to guys who labored semi-anonymously under an autocrat…
― veronica moser, Saturday, 11 July 2015 13:43 (eight years ago) link
i heard a (recent?) Fogerty live recording on the radio a while back and his voice sounded absolutely shot, almost transformed, it took me a couple minutes to realize it was actually JF and not someone else butchering his songs. so i probably wouldn't go to see him live, but i wouldn't go to a Revisited show either, for different reasons.
― some dude, Saturday, 11 July 2015 14:34 (eight years ago) link
Wonder if there's any CCRevisited tribute bands out there. Bet they put on a show.
― pplains, Saturday, 11 July 2015 14:35 (eight years ago) link
Last time I saw Fogerty--only time in years--was on Letterman a year or two ago, when his Creedence redo album was out, doing "Someday Never Comes" with a band I didn't recognize. I thought they sounded great, although a ravaged voice, for that particular song, might have been part of what appealed to me.
― clemenza, Saturday, 11 July 2015 14:41 (eight years ago) link
always thought that Elliott Easton must be really hard up that he's stuck with Cook and Clifford for so many years…
I can't imagine how horrible it must be to play with such a unique and swinging rhythm section night after night.
As unquestionably brilliant as Fogerty was, he wasn't/isn't Creedence (and he seems to think he is). Listening to Kenny Aaronoff's caps-lock butchering of "Ramble Tamble" made me realize that the CCR version is nearly as much Clifford's song as it is Fogerty's.

If I had voted, I might have had "Chameleon" somewhere at the bottom of the ballot, even if it's not typical of their work. Without Fogerty's vocal, you might mistake it for any act in 1970 trying to get on AM radio, but it's very spirited and catchy.

I'm thinking that Pendulum, their supposed attempt to sell themselves as a "serious album band" by late 1970 standards, goes to extremes with their most "bubblegum" material and also their most avant-garde/progressive (or whatever "Rude Awakening #2" is supposed to be). Was this a White Album-style "we can be eclectic too" statement?
