I did wonder, BeeOK

Noticed last night that Times Change sounds like a follow up to Get The Message w/ the opening talk/rap section.
― brotherlovesdub, Saturday, 30 May 2015 14:36 (eleven years ago)
and the "Some Distant Memory" oboe!
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 30 May 2015 15:01 (eleven years ago)
Yeah, I was thinking last night about how good it would be to resurrect that one for their live shows but use the melodica to play the oboe part.
― brotherlovesdub, Saturday, 30 May 2015 15:51 (eleven years ago)
Think i started a thread on a Time Change somewhere. Always loved that dusky vibe. That one and Some Distant Memory really take me back to my senior year in high school.
― licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Saturday, 30 May 2015 17:43 (eleven years ago)
A friend of mine took a synth programming course in college, and fwiw, he told me that apparently the oboe is one of the easiest sounds to come up with.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 30 May 2015 19:00 (eleven years ago)
It's a live oboe, according to the credits.

i was a poll virgin when i ran this poll. yes, this was my very first poll i did for ILM. this was also the first ILM artist collaborated poll where i asked for help with the images. i still think Millsner, who i don't even think post here anymore, did one of the best job on any ILM poll. cannot ever thank him enough for helping.
― Bee OK, Thursday, 17 August 2017 01:19 (eight years ago)
anyways the reason for this bump. we never made a Spotify playlist so here it is for the first time:
ILM New Order
― Bee OK, Thursday, 17 August 2017 01:20 (eight years ago)
missing from Spotify because they don't have CD2 from the collector edition are:
Lonesome TonightHurtIn A Lonely PlaceCries and WhispersMesh
so it is actually a Top 45 instead of 50.
― Bee OK, Thursday, 17 August 2017 01:22 (eight years ago)
I still check in almost every day! Thanks for the bump and the playlist.
The poll was a joy from start to finish, and I felt privileged to help out. It's obvious that New Order are a special band for many ILXors, so I hope that our love for these songs, the legacy of the group, and their constellation of collaborators still shows through.
― Millsner, Thursday, 17 August 2017 04:49 (eight years ago)
nice to see you are still around Millsner!
had a blast listening to this playlist today.

One of these playlists has the stupid pump panel mix of Confusion on there which renders a 'best of new order' playlist completely useless. I added both but don't know which one I shuffled this morning, but it was foul. I can deal with the Perfecto mix of World and the Hardfloor mix of Blue Monday, but the Confusion remix was a step too far. Surely nobody voted for that.
― brotherlovesdub, Friday, 18 August 2017 16:23 (eight years ago)
Well what do you know. I didn't have Spotify back in the day and when I scanned this thread I didn't see it.

are people familiar with the Pump Panel Reconstruction Mix used in the first club scene in "Blade"? because that owns(also for whatever reason the "Confusion" 12 " mix on Spotify won't play for me)― they are either militarists (ugh) or kangaroos (?) POLL Will Tear Us Apart – ILM Artist Poll #86 - JOY DIVISION – New Order solo or other groups Poll (aka the Electronic poll) – a NEW ORDER (#37) supplement poll --- Results Thread
― Bee OK, Wednesday, 13 December 2017 01:09 (eight years ago)
The worst New Order single.
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 5 January 2018 02:17 (eight years ago)
Maybe the worst up to that point, as you say, but looking at the 2CD "Singles" comp, I can find at least nine I like less.
― Hans Holbein (Chinchilla Volapük), Friday, 5 January 2018 03:21 (eight years ago)
I'd say Jetstream is quite comfortably their worst single overall.
― kitchen person, Friday, 5 January 2018 04:38 (eight years ago)
I believe they wrote State of the Nation in a day (or unusually quick) for Pretty In Pink. I don't mind it, but I couldn't defend it outside of personal preference. It's not better than Shellshock, but I really like the intro until Bernard vomits up that horrible lyric. The backing vocal on the chorus is pointless. Despite all the bad, I still like it. State of the Nation is my least favorite 1986 sleeve. Shellshock is my favorite, then BLT.
― brotherlovesdub, Friday, 5 January 2018 04:54 (eight years ago)
"shellshock" was the pretty in pink track.

Yeah, you're right, I thought I had read something in Substance about State being done around the same time but I just flipped through the mentions in Substance and there's nothing there.

Hooky's bassline in this early live version of State of The Nation from 1985 is pretty good. I think it's one of his weakest basslines, which could be what drags the song down.
The whole Leuven show is enjoyable.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLZ53BmgD5A&t=1474s

Our soaraway number 2 right here in new unseen footage from Manchester’s Student Union on February 6 1981. Messy but as a comment cheeringly points out 'New Order's sloppy mess sounds better than most bands' A game'.

How I ranked their albums a few months ago.

Ranking their British top forty singles.
― recriminations from the nitpicking woke (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 14 May 2019 00:50 (seven years ago)
Not much to disagree with, except with the record-buying public of the UK. How could they not have sent three of the best (in fact, three of my four favourite New Order singles - "Perfect Kiss", "Bizarre Love Triangle" and "Run") into the Top 40?
― dorsalstop, Tuesday, 14 May 2019 09:07 (seven years ago)
sad that i lost the original image in this poll. .
Alfred, this is a good list, i will have to come back and dissect it a bit later.

Why does nobody else love "Waiting for the Sirens' Call" like I do? I can barely make it to the end without tears welling in my eyes.
― an incoherent crustacean (MatthewK), Wednesday, 15 May 2019 04:31 (seven years ago)
The song or the album? I love both but It seems like that is the minority opinion. Turn is fantastic too.
― brotherlovesdub, Wednesday, 15 May 2019 05:10 (seven years ago)
The song, specifically - the album has a few dodgy moments but the song is perfect, for my money. If only Gillian had been on board, it would have been the perfect elegy for the original lineup.

Yeah, remind me where these songs charted on the Billboard Hot 100 again? ;)
I do know what you mean, though, 'Bizarre Love Triangle' particularly really should have been a Top 40 hit, especially in 1986. I was just looking at what the actual Top 40 was the week that 'Bizarre Love Triangle' peaked at #56 and it's better than the entire Top 20.
― Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Wednesday, 15 May 2019 17:36 (seven years ago)
Who cares what's in the Billboard Hot 100? :S
― dorsalstop, Wednesday, 15 May 2019 19:57 (seven years ago)
Not me, that's for sure.
― Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Wednesday, 15 May 2019 20:04 (seven years ago)
Original image? I still have them all, Bee OK. Which one were you referring to?
― Millsner, Sunday, 19 May 2019 13:56 (seven years ago)
I love "Waiting for the Sirens' Call" (the song - the album is merely OK). The chorus and bridge are really affecting.
― lingereffect (Kent Burt), Sunday, 19 May 2019 15:27 (seven years ago)
this was the first poll i ever run on ILM, now i'm at around 10. i have noticed that the images have disappeared and have been promising to correct that. this poll also started a new trend for these artist ballot polls where there were co-contributors. i did the balloting with the roll out and Millsner did the images for this one. i wanted to get this done before we start the first artist poll for this new decade and ironically it will start at ILM Ballot Poll 100 for 2020.

love that the sources for the pictures are included on themthis was a serious PITA, but unattributed pics are so rampant on fan pages that I would've felt shitty for perpetuating the problem.― Millsner, Thursday, May 30, 2013 1:48 PM (six years ago)
