I was looking for something else, and came upon this old gem, which I hadn't heard for at least 10 years:

So awesome! Too bad CJ Bolland later turned to mediocre big beat. The 1995 album where he mixed trance and drum'n'bass was still quite interesting.

two weeks pass...

does anyone have this old Dave Angel mix?

looks terrific

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Saturday, 11 April 2009 02:17 (seventeen years ago)

I remember seeing that Dave Angel mix in the local record store around 1994, but I was always turned down by the cover which looked quite ugly, even among all the other "trippy" CGI record covers of that era.

Tuomas, Saturday, 11 April 2009 19:05 (seventeen years ago)

Anyway, 1994 got me thinking of this tune, which after 15 years is still my favourite Mike Ink thing ever:

Tuomas, Saturday, 11 April 2009 19:10 (seventeen years ago)

WOW that does look good.

i don't have that but i have this old K7 mix and it's the shit

Loving the Mike Ink vid...oh, the memories.

Psychic TV - "Wicked"

viborg, Monday, 13 April 2009 07:06 (seventeen years ago)

Never come across that Dave Angel mix before. Looks good though. I liked his K7 effort.

sam500, Monday, 13 April 2009 07:45 (seventeen years ago)

Incidentally, I keep seeing Globetrotting in my local 2nd hand shop (for about $5). Thought it was a mix until I checked discogs just now. Has anyone heard it?

Around the time 'Tales of the unexpected' came out, the British dance press were touting him as a kind of Brit Carl Craig (eg Rudiments vs Bug in a bass bin) but that album never quite lived up to the hype. I enjoyed his R&S Classics comp though.

sam500, Monday, 13 April 2009 08:18 (seventeen years ago)

What a great video that Osborne one is, if not only because The New Dance Show videos on youtube are arguably my favourite thing on the internet, but because that track sounds so much like it could have been played on on it.

Also, re: pier bucci. Loving his remix of Ziggy Kinder - Flipflop crash, need more techno like this.

Edward Saroyan, Monday, 13 April 2009 15:10 (seventeen years ago)

Whoops, thought this was the bobbins 2009 thread.

formerly: mehlt (Edward Saroyan), Monday, 13 April 2009 15:12 (seventeen years ago)

That Osborne video kind of weirds me out. It seems as exploitative as Germans calling themselves Motorcitysoul.

Your original display name will be displayed in brackets (Display Name), Monday, 13 April 2009 15:30 (seventeen years ago)

i don't think Osborne is particularly exploitative. he's one of those few Detroit area white guys who knows whats up and works with good people and makes good music. i would be surprised if any Detroit cats had any qualms with that video.

pipecock, Monday, 13 April 2009 15:37 (seventeen years ago)

I know a lot of the late 00's Detroit area white guys grew up watching the new dance show, and take it have a serious appreciation for it, for what it's worth.

formerly: mehlt (Edward Saroyan), Monday, 13 April 2009 17:46 (seventeen years ago)

I happen to be one of those guys.

Your original display name will be displayed in brackets (Display Name), Monday, 13 April 2009 18:06 (seventeen years ago)

Ok. I don't know Osborne or what TV he watched in the early 90's, so I won't say anything else, but he strikes me a bit better than Motorcitysoul.

listening to Groovetechnology v1.3 for the first time. first impression: hideous mixing.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Tuesday, 14 April 2009 01:33 (seventeen years ago)

is that the Swayzak mix? they can't mix for shit. the Electro Groovetech cds are much better.

brotherlovesdub, Tuesday, 14 April 2009 01:43 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, swayzak. i can't believe 2 people combined couldn't mix properly.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Tuesday, 14 April 2009 01:55 (seventeen years ago)

Listening to Jetone (aka Tim Hecker) - Ultramarin, and it's really quite good. Like Mikael Stavostrand - Reduce, really good atmospheric minimal techno, rich textures etc.

formerly: mehlt (Edward Saroyan), Saturday, 18 April 2009 03:12 (seventeen years ago)

I picked up doubles of Lets Pet Puppies 04 yesterday, definitely worth looking into.

This just got the repress treatment as well.

Picked up an OP of this yesterday.

I have this, but I haven't listened to it for years. From what I remember it's a pretty hard and kicking and somewhat technoish house album. Not too different from general mid-90s Eurohouse, but not a bad album either. I'd say it's worth the 5$ for "Tokyo Stealth Fighter" alone, which is a pretty great, stripped-down club banger.

Tuomas, Sunday, 3 May 2009 10:21 (seventeen years ago)

really enjoying this classic jump-up dieselboy mix i found in a bargain bin for $2.99 ... hooray again for sub base

moonship journey to baja, Monday, 4 May 2009 01:43 (seventeen years ago)

^^thanks tuomas. actually i think i had 'tokyo stealth fighter' on 12". it came with quite a lean carl craig remix.

sam500, Monday, 4 May 2009 02:33 (seventeen years ago)

My goodness, was invited to the record store basement, snapped 16 used records, including stuff like R. Hood's Monobox, Mike Shannon, Sieg Uber Die Sonne, and the biggest headfuck of all Alex Under's Multiplicanciones 2, which I've been looking for for years, and haven't been able to get online, out of nowhere, and used!

I'm pleased.

elan, Thursday, 7 May 2009 01:22 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah I know, but I've only ever ordered things off Forced exposure, and I've only ordered things online twice (I guess my comment was kind of misleading or, uhhh, just untrue).

Edward Saroyan, Thursday, 7 May 2009 01:29 (seventeen years ago)

And it's still less than half the price of any of those, before shipping etc.

Edward Saroyan, Thursday, 7 May 2009 01:29 (seventeen years ago)

huh, i got that record in Cleveland for $4 in 06. not my favorite work of his, i must admit.

the table is the table, Thursday, 7 May 2009 03:11 (seventeen years ago)

actually, scartch that, 'D' is quite a nice track and i've used it in sets once in a while.

the table is the table, Thursday, 7 May 2009 03:13 (seventeen years ago)

Hooray! I got that Hardrive s/t record I talked about upthread (although sans original sleeve, which is totally :( also the sound is kind of shitty, worse than the 192ish Mp3 I had, which is kind of ???

Edward Saroyan, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 01:01 (seventeen years ago)

underground music, underwater sound quality?

elan, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 01:40 (seventeen years ago)

;)

elan, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 01:40 (seventeen years ago)

is it a boot or just crappy record-pressing or mastering?

the table is the table, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 01:50 (seventeen years ago)

PS- DOPPLEREFFEKT

the table is the table, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 01:50 (seventeen years ago)

It's an original copy, sounds like poor mastering - all mid tone, but on certain tracks thoughs (the ddep inside dub sounds relatively fine but the original mix doesn't)

Edward Saroyan, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 05:02 (seventeen years ago)

I had never even heard of this until a week ago...

dan selzer, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 05:25 (seventeen years ago)

that's the sort of track the term "hot mess" was invented for

moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 05:31 (seventeen years ago)

that track is amazing! pretty rare too. the same guy produced "single girl" by knight action.

one time, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 07:40 (seventeen years ago)

DAN! Bus Station John has played that track at the Tubesteak Connection before. so amazing!!

the table is the table, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 12:57 (seventeen years ago)

also one time, can you web-message me again-- you didn't include yr email address in the last one, so i can't respond.

the table is the table, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 12:58 (seventeen years ago)

danselzer at yahoo

dan selzer, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 13:41 (seventeen years ago)

Whoa. Did Peacefrog just unleash a bunch of stuff online? Beatport and Rhapsody both now have Moodymann's "Black Mahogani," which I could have sworn wasn't available on download.

In similar news, Sun Electric's Present is available as well! Keep it comin', R&S...

pshrbrn, Thursday, 14 May 2009 17:23 (seventeen years ago)

i have a track id:

i think it's called "keep on rising" by the funky green dogs, but as far as i can tell, they don't have a song by that name. the lyrics are "keep on rising, got to keep on rising." something like that.

ANYBODY?

elan, Thursday, 14 May 2009 22:36 (seventeen years ago)

i don't know that one but High Up is my all time fav. Funky Green Dogs track.
