I don't think they're using a sequencer on "Prime Time".. sounds all live to me.. all that background noise sounds like a lot of swaggering about the studio hitting mic stands and what not, but just put through a lot of effects.

If I had made an album like this, I would be jolly pleased with myself.

Damning with faint praise!!! I think it's an amazing accomplishment, and while I'm not so down on Discovery as Ned is, I think he's right that this is a more complete experience (or whatever his wording was).

As for the stuff "firstworldman" said - I think it comes off as (sorry) rockism.

There's no expectation on how hard one must work on a piece of art in the rockism tenets. In fact, lack of hard work is often PRAISED in certain rockist circles.. praised in the name of spontaneity and inventiveness.

haha i don't know if i agree with EITHER of you guys. surely it's possible to be rockist about dance music? and deej, firstworldman supported his opinion pretty explicitly in his argument, i don't think its unreasonable to demand some craft from music, it's not like he burst into the thread and said "dance music is shit it's all loops anyway"

"rockism" = instance of "purism", specifically stating the superiority of guitar/organic based musicians over those who use electronics, with emphasis on the 60s and 70s as being the true eras of inspiration of good music, stating that the album form is a superior one than the pop single, and more.

Of the three albums, I find this one the most consistent and listenable.

Having said that, the singles on Homework are superior to everything on the new one except maybe "Technologic".

i actually think it is a big deal, and i alluded to as much on another thread, but once "robot rock" (a song i was previously only lukewarm on) revealed itself to be one of the best on the record, it felt like less of an issue.
