i don't see how she ever expects to get cast in a belle and sebastian movie with tweets like those

Yeah so Jenny Death gets 8.1 but not BNM... perfect example of PF walking their top-down branding tightrope. Gotta appease the kids who align their indie identity with DG image marketing, but not unnerve the Pomplamoose set.

A WOC - and an electronic musician, no less (is this a first?) - gets a BNM today. http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/20450-dark-energy/

bae sremmurd (monotony), Thursday, 2 April 2015 05:32 (eleven years ago)

no capt-save-a-fork here but just flipping idly through the BNM reviews it seems like females, electronic musicians and female electronic musicians are pretty well-represented in BNM. women of color who are electronic musicians less so, last one i saw was FKA twigs back in august. but they only bestow BNM like every other week or something?

I still want to know why the Vampire Weekend guy was cut out of the piece.

I assume because Batmanglij is of Iranian heritage and the others are South Asian?

jaymc, Thursday, 2 April 2015 06:42 (eleven years ago)

oh cool I've basically spent the last week raving about that album to anyone who will listen

The Reverend, Thursday, 2 April 2015 06:58 (eleven years ago)

I assume because Batmanglij is of Iranian heritage and the others are South Asian?

That will have been known by the author. The line was too easily misinterpreted as throwing shade at Batmanglij and Khan, i think.

good choices from the phillies fans (andrew w.k. and deftones). dud: predictable "i know nothing about sports here's some artsy indie track i like" responses

really like the idea of walking up to that Pan Sonic song tbh

Yeah any indie track there is a dud; you've gotta go for something the crowd can sing along to. It's sports, a time for us to drop pretensions and share collective emotions. If you feel the need to be standoffish in that context you're beyond repair. Might as well give up and write for Pitchfork.

I'd go for "Friday" myself.

Adam J Duncan, Wednesday, 8 April 2015 15:02 (eleven years ago)

lol at Br@ndon St0usy sticking to his shtick.

There's 2 "indie" bands on there, Led Savy Fav and Oh Sees which both rock and are catchy as hell

kurt kobaïan (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 9 April 2015 15:02 (eleven years ago)

Lol at ilx no nothings acting like every band they haven't heard is like The Decemberists

kurt kobaïan (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 9 April 2015 15:02 (eleven years ago)

I would like to know what Led Savy Fav sound like. Sort of an indie rock take on Dread Zeppelin maybe?

doofheaven are indie.

Ian Cohen expresses an unhealthy interest in how indie rock musicians make a living.

I love to know how musicians make a living.

scott seward, Thursday, 9 April 2015 17:46 (eleven years ago)

yes, I'm sure a Decemberists show evokes the same level of hysteria as a One Direction show.
