Good to see that normal life is working out so well for him.

You’re being too simplistic and you’re insulting my poor heart (Turrican), Friday, 27 March 2015 20:19 (eleven years ago)

but that is normal life for a singer who left a band

^^ Saddest moment of my life.
I could live without them solving their problems through social media.

it's uh something

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Friday, 31 July 2015 12:54 (ten years ago)

grower, i guess. but i'm too obsessed with these guys to even try to have an objective point of view.

Nourry, Friday, 31 July 2015 13:12 (ten years ago)

it's maybe their least arena rock thing yet so i'm prob just experiencing withdrawal

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Friday, 31 July 2015 13:23 (ten years ago)

Subbing in Adam Levine as a 5th member was an odd choice.

"it's maybe their least arena rock thing yet so i'm prob just experiencing withdrawal"

yeah, i get it. i was excited when one of them said that the new record has fleetwood mac vibes, but this single it's completely different from what i expected/wanted. but, as isabel cole wrote, "every time i listen to these assholes for the first time in a while i remember how harry’s voice goes straight to my groin", i can't change that, even when i don't enjoy the songs so much as i wanted.

Nourry, Friday, 31 July 2015 14:24 (ten years ago)

In the meantime, Zayn signed to RCA.

Oh noes is it that bad

Tim F, Sunday, 8 November 2015 21:43 (ten years ago)

more likely to cry if it's good. so far it's good

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Sunday, 8 November 2015 21:45 (ten years ago)

"hey angel" sorta sounds like "clouds" pt 2

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Sunday, 8 November 2015 21:46 (ten years ago)

all of the songs about zayn hurt me a lot, especially "long way down"

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Sunday, 8 November 2015 21:49 (ten years ago)

I have a terrible copy that I heard enough last week to know I won't like it as much as Four. The songwriting done gone flat.

Made In The Studio (By Puppets)

Turrican, Sunday, 8 November 2015 21:52 (ten years ago)

aw yeah silly overdriven 1d finally locks in at track 8, "never enough"

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Sunday, 8 November 2015 21:52 (ten years ago)

trying to decide if "what a feeling" is a less good rewrite of jennifer paige's "crush"

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Sunday, 8 November 2015 21:59 (ten years ago)

"love you goodbye" ;_;

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Sunday, 8 November 2015 22:02 (ten years ago)

this is definitely less good than four (there are what, three fake beatles tracks and four ballads here?) but whatever i'm still emotionally devastated

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Sunday, 8 November 2015 22:05 (ten years ago)

A more good rewrite of "crush" would be the best song in the world, surely.

Tim F, Sunday, 8 November 2015 22:05 (ten years ago)

yeah holding out for that forever prob

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Sunday, 8 November 2015 22:06 (ten years ago)

fuck u 1d for saving the awesome gross rock song for the bonus tracks, hello "temporary fix"!

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Sunday, 8 November 2015 22:11 (ten years ago)

it's literally "no control" part 2 but i wanna start a band that sounds like "no control"

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Sunday, 8 November 2015 22:12 (ten years ago)

I want a boyfriend who sounds like "No Control."

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 8 November 2015 22:13 (ten years ago)

fuck "walking in the wind" is great too. BONUS TRACK SYNDROME

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Sunday, 8 November 2015 22:15 (ten years ago)

"walking in the wind" is probably the best "i know it's over but we'll find each other again" song ever, i have no idea how they know this much about my life

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Sunday, 8 November 2015 22:18 (ten years ago)

Only listened once but, aww man, I can already tell I'll never love this like I do Four. Maybe a better rip will help. I miss Zayn's melisma, the way he really dug into 1D's pretty standard melodies and pulled out complexity and soul.

That said, it's pretty consistently decent after one pass and "Perfect" and "Never Enough" are already all-timers

bunny slopes, Sunday, 8 November 2015 23:44 (ten years ago)

Ha -- for a while I've preferred 1D's album tracks to their singles.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 8 November 2015 23:47 (ten years ago)

'What a feeling' Is a obvious highlight for me. Kinda fireproof Pt.2

And although I've been reading that 'hey angel' Is a descendent from verve, to me it sounds a lot like robbie williams. But, as brad nelson wrote, I'm also emotionally devastated by this.

Nourry, Monday, 9 November 2015 01:49 (ten years ago)

Really warmed up to this more than I thought I would! I mean, it is not the miracle of Four but what is? "If I Could Fly" is a turd and TOTALLY Harry but I'll take it over "18"

Everything else is great, including all cheesy Beatle-isms and Tango-era Fleetwood Mac and Paul Simon bites

also on Noisey, my argument for why 1D is better than Bieber and will sell more:http://m.noisey.vice.com/blog/justin-bieber-one-direction-purpose-made-in-the-a-m-belieber-directioner-showdown?utm_source=noiseytwitterus

some dude, Saturday, 14 November 2015 21:05 (ten years ago)

they're both gonna get outsold by drake and possibly drake and future too

J0rdan S., Saturday, 14 November 2015 21:15 (ten years ago)

first week anyway, as far as what a time to be alive goes

J0rdan S., Saturday, 14 November 2015 21:17 (ten years ago)

My review should go live on Monday. "What A Feeling" is my jam. I love the way the bass tugs at the drums like Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams."

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 14 November 2015 21:23 (ten years ago)

Nourry, Saturday, 14 November 2015 21:33 (ten years ago)

I like One Direction because when I hear them, when I look at them, I realize how quickly they will be gone. How quickly I will be gone and I feel very grateful to be here. One Direction is all brevity, tender flowers, a reminder of mortality, a reminder to live with joy.

It's more that 1D reminds me I am going to die. Which of course, makes me a much better mom because, for me, at their shows, I feel certain nothing beside kindness matters when youth, life, beauty are so brief. 1D fills both my daughters and me with joy, with love. That comes back as kindness.
