By the way, I heard E2-E4 for the first time a few days ago and was blown away. Wish I knew about years ago. Any other recommendations for similar 'classic' balearic/electronic music?

Not all electronic but this was the Top 25 voted by DJ History a few years back:

1 Tullio de Piscopo – Primavera (Stop Bajon) (Bagaria, 1984)
2 William Pitt – City Lights (Public Sound, 1986)
3 Elkin & Nelson – Jibaro (CBS, 1986)
4 Chris Rea – Josephine (Magnet, 1985)
5 Herb Alpert – Rotation (A&M, 1979)
6 Manuel Goettsching – E2-E4 (Inteam, 1984)
7 Mandy Smith – I Just Can’t Wait (Cool & Breezy Jazz Mix) (PWL, 1987)
8 Dizzi Heights – Would I Find Love (Parlophone, 1986)
9 Art Of Noise – Moments In Love (Island, 1983)
10 It’s Immaterial – Driving Away From Home (Virgin, 1986)
11 Carly Simon – Why (WEA, 1982)
12 Sebastien Tellier – La Ritournelle (Lucky Number, 2005)
13 Donna Summer – State of Independence (WEA, 1982)
14 Laid Back – Fly Away/Walking In The Sunshine (CBS, 1983)
15 Kate Bush – Running Up The Hill (EMI, 1985)
16 Cure – Lullaby (Fiction, 1989)
17 Linda Di Franco – TV Scene (WEA, 1985)
18 Flash & The Pan – Walking In The Rain (Epic, 1978)
19 Izit – Stories (ffrr, 1989)
20 Fleetwood Mac – Big Love (Arthur Baker Remix) (Warners, 1987)
21 Double – The Captain Of Her Heart (Polydor, 1985)
22 The Beloved – The Sun Rising (WEA, 1989)
23 Enzo Avitabile – Blackout (EMI, 1986)
24 Mike Francis – Features Of Love (Concorde, 1985)
25 Richie Havens – Going Back To My Roots (Elektra, 1980)

If you want to dig even deeper there's a list of all the records nominated (and many, many gems) about halfway down this thread:

Maybe "Sueño Latino", or would that be too similar? ;-)

this is a couple of years old now and i'm not 100% sure it fits on this thread but the alfonso lovo reissue on numero is *incredible*

Any other recommendations for similar 'classic' balearic/electronic music?

feel like this one could be slotted away in a similar electronic/euphoric subcategory of balearica

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8LeK27_c-M

tho e2-e4 is obviously a lot less cheesy than most of this stuff, sorta hard to compare anything to it in a direct way. on the proggier/noodlier side of things definitely ashra, maybe transfer station blue? wahnfried's townelle? innovative communication in general - clara mondshine, double fantasy, etc. not sure if those were actual classics at the time but they feel right.

hug niceman (psychgawsple), Sunday, 29 March 2015 16:05 (eleven years ago)

thanks, I'll check those out. More asking about classic records in general than something exactly akin to E2-E4.

Here's a Spotify playlist of that DJ History Balearic poll, by the way:

Matt DC, Sunday, 29 March 2015 19:16 (eleven years ago)

Saw that Mr Hogge posted on FB yesterday that he's starting up the Lovefingers site again very soon. Whoop!

groovypanda, Friday, 3 April 2015 12:43 (eleven years ago)

that spotify playlist was a bit overkill for me - when it's 360 tracks and some are just well-known hits it becomes a bit useless and unfocused.

Junior Dictionary (LocalGarda), Friday, 3 April 2015 12:57 (eleven years ago)

if only there were an ilxor crazy enough to make a playlist of every single track mentioned in this thread

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Friday, 3 April 2015 17:48 (eleven years ago)

anyone know the track at 41 mins in this mix? it's amazing:

https://soundcloud.com/seekmagic/bassos-guest-mix-cocktails-by

good mix too - think i had it somewhere before it came up in my soundcloud stream today

Junior Dictionary (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 8 April 2015 10:50 (eleven years ago)

Maybe something by Shunzoh Ohno? I need to check his late 70s/early 80s albums to confirm. Also I just realized that Basso is aka "Breeze", who constructed several definitive Nu-Balearic mixes that were floating around the web five or so years ago.

doug watson, Wednesday, 8 April 2015 14:35 (eleven years ago)

Yeah I think that one was as Breeze - I am sure I've heard it before it got shared in my stream today - possibly a few years back.

I will investigate Shunzoh Ohno, thanks.

https://soundcloud.com/the-dream-chimney/mix-of-the-week-62-sorcerer-baked-arcade-funk

good mix by sorcerer - this kinda ends up as house/dub techno by the middle, but either way i'm putting it here.

the swagger of oasis (LocalGarda), Monday, 20 April 2015 10:19 (eleven years ago)

on my fourth or fifth play of that since yesterday, it really is a cut above.

Yeah I mostly just stick it on shuffle for an hour or so when I'm in the right mood and short on ideas, which is usually Sunday morning.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 21 April 2015 09:45 (eleven years ago)

there are some brilliant tunes on it for sure - just it's a bit of a wide lens - it's (obviously) quite a brit-centric 80s take on balearic too, there are a lot of old tunes i hear in many diff mixes that are quite a diff take on balearic.

the swagger of oasis (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 21 April 2015 09:47 (eleven years ago)

That Sorcerer mix is glorious, the shift into house and beachy techno midway through feels very early 90s. It's actually more like a really good compilation than a mix.

Matt DC, Thursday, 23 April 2015 17:45 (eleven years ago)

yeah, amazing mix

max, Thursday, 23 April 2015 18:16 (eleven years ago)

it does feel v v polished - listening to it again now. i recognise some of the housier tracks.

bureau belfast model (LocalGarda), Monday, 27 April 2015 10:45 (eleven years ago)

no thread for taragana pyjarama but his new ep feels balearic so i'll put this here:
http://pro.beatport.com/track/ber-original-mix/6642064
wish i could find the full track online for yall to listen to but anyhow the whole ep is decent imo. it has a nice air france / late 90s dj sasha vibe.

that soul family sensation cut sounds so much like EBTG... yeah why not, i'll seek out the remixes

Psychemagik's mixes are excellent. Any word on their own 12s? I only know their remix of "Night Flight", which owns the song outright.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIu338Ouw0U

Also, my nine-year old daughter is fanatical about this mix and has named one of her stuffed animals "Psychemagi". No lie.

doug watson, Wednesday, 13 May 2015 12:42 (eleven years ago)

i love their remix of mirror people's kaleidoscope

max, Wednesday, 13 May 2015 13:54 (eleven years ago)

doug that mix is amazing

marcos, Wednesday, 13 May 2015 15:57 (eleven years ago)

It is! The original was a Balearic gem but this is an outstanding reworking. I kinda feel bad for Lexx, whose much shorter mix on the B-side is pretty good yet dominated by this version.

doug watson, Wednesday, 13 May 2015 17:52 (eleven years ago)

https://soundcloud.com/tacdesign/tac-podcast-002-balearic-social

second track on this is amazing - it's from this http://www.discogs.com/Wilderness-America-A-Celebration-Of-The-Land/release/2415034

also the track at 32 mins, dunno what it is.

great mix overall.

bureau belfast model (LocalGarda), Thursday, 14 May 2015 15:37 (eleven years ago)
