i love this album
― insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Wednesday, 18 March 2015 18:01 (eleven years ago)
(surprise)
Yes. I want to say that it's as good as the first but I'll wait a bit.
― abcfsk, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 21:17 (eleven years ago)
i think "qff" is their best ever song for sure
― insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Wednesday, 18 March 2015 21:22 (eleven years ago)
this is neat, whatever gets 90s math shit on ppl's radar that's cool
― kurt kobaïan (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 18 March 2015 21:49 (eleven years ago)
I'm really digging this album. Suppose I need to go and get their other stuff, eh?
― ultros ultros-ghali, Thursday, 9 April 2015 19:28 (eleven years ago)
Actually, I prefer their older stuff.
If I had to rank their releases:
1. 小学生と宇宙 (School Children and The Cosmo)2. 爆裂パニエさん (Bakuretsu Tricot-san)3. T H E4. A N D5. バキューン ("Bakyuun")
A N D is still pretty cool, though
― F♯ A♯ (∞), Thursday, 9 April 2015 19:55 (eleven years ago)
Typo up there, sorry.
2 is 爆裂トリコさん if you're trying to find it online
― F♯ A♯ (∞), Thursday, 9 April 2015 19:58 (eleven years ago)
Xp Yes. This new album, good as it is, is not the absolute revelation and aotd candidate that was 'THE', a class of its own.

My brother just linked a video of theirs on Facebook and HOLY SHIT
― I Am Curious (Dolezal) (DJP), Friday, 23 October 2015 16:29 (ten years ago)
That 5 drummers video is great.

Here's the Music Japan episode with tricot performing http://www.miomio.tv/watch/cc252541/
It's quite bizarre seeing them with Morning Musume and Sexy Zone, E-Girls and Perfume. Credit goes to the producers I guess - as far as I know tricot is still only signed to their self-made indie label.
― abcfsk, Monday, 14 December 2015 05:58 (ten years ago)
I really loved THE, but AND has a dense surface of hyperkinetic chops that I just bounce off. Maybe they have ascended to the stratosphere and my ageing brain is left behind, although I listen to a lot of Autechre and feel it's quite straightforward.
― MatthewK, Monday, 14 December 2015 06:22 (ten years ago)
Maybe it's because I heard it first but I prefer A N D over T H E and the rest of the stuff I've heard, even though everyone tells me they're better. So many hooks.
― ultros ultros-ghali, Monday, 14 December 2015 11:44 (ten years ago)
that tricot x disney thing

this is such an odd mix of modern pop and like "signed to thrill jockey in 97" vibes
― Amira, Queen of Creativity (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 21 December 2015 21:55 (ten years ago)
So good live! So glad I managed to make it out for them.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 8 March 2016 16:23 (ten years ago)
I'm really regretting not hearing A N D before making up my albums ballot from this year. It's really great.
― i;m the worst poster e9er (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 8 March 2016 17:18 (ten years ago)
Had every intention of seeing them but someone must've turned up the gravity on my sofa.

― abcfsk, Friday, 15 April 2016 06:56 (ten years ago)
<3 it, but i don't think it's going to supplant oyasumi from playing endlessly in my head
― mookieproof, Saturday, 16 April 2016 00:08 (ten years ago)
oh i totally missed this ep. it rules
― who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Thursday, 8 December 2016 21:38 (nine years ago)
it really do. those first 2 tracks have to be the most inspiring seven minutes of 2016
― r|t|c, Thursday, 8 December 2016 21:49 (nine years ago)
also think the last track is my new fav tricot song
― who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Thursday, 8 December 2016 21:50 (nine years ago)
i just really really like the ones where it's like they thought steely dan was the ultimate black belt in karate

new album "3" out on may 19
― who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 February 2017 13:59 (nine years ago)
*patiently sits in one place until may 19*
― who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 February 2017 14:04 (nine years ago)
Hope it's better than singles/EPs they put out after AND, I thought they were a but formulaic. I'm probably still apparently the only person to prefer AND to THE though so I might just have wrong opinions on this band
― ultros ultros-ghali, Thursday, 9 February 2017 14:28 (nine years ago)
Looking forward to it, hoping for a European tour.
In the meantime Tricot-influenced Hong Kong group GDJYB just put out a very good album.

― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 31 March 2017 16:22 (nine years ago)
late pass here but this is currently blowing my mind. agree with nickb in that the bass player reminds me a lot of flea. but that's a plus, imo.

Really enjoying the new one at first pass.
― aphoristical, Wednesday, 21 October 2020 20:29 (five years ago)
the rap on track three changed my life
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 21 October 2020 20:52 (five years ago)
how are they so good????? this is maybe their most outré record but it all really works
The rap is great. My favourite moment on second listen is that piercing yet menacing riff on the final track.
― aphoristical, Thursday, 22 October 2020 01:21 (five years ago)
their best album

also omfg that music video
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Sunday, 25 October 2020 19:20 (five years ago)
The two Tricot albums are my two favourites of this year so far. I have a theory that most bands peak with their 4th and 5th albums.
― aphoristical, Sunday, 25 October 2020 20:30 (five years ago)
holy shit what a great song, recaptures the buzz I got from T H E. Is Yoshida a new drummer? I thought they'd been using machines and session players on recent stuff.
― assert (MatthewK), Sunday, 25 October 2020 23:40 (five years ago)
best band on earth
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 24 December 2020 16:28 (five years ago)
if taylor swift hadn't also done it i'd be like "wow it's incredible this band released their two best albums in one year"
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 24 December 2020 16:38 (five years ago)
I need to listen to this one again. I only gave it one chance and it didn't hit me the way the one from January/February did, so I moved on to other things.
― but also fuck you (unperson), Thursday, 24 December 2020 19:10 (five years ago)
I would take the two Tricot albums over the two Swift albums as my favourite pair of albums of the year, but maybe that's because Evermore hasn't clicked for me yet.
― aphoristical, Friday, 25 December 2020 07:29 (five years ago)
Vote in the poll!
